Tez Johnson, Trey Palmer Out Injured

August 1st, 2025

With rookie Tez Johnson wearing a hoodie and shorts today and Trey Palmer still out, the Bucs had a different look during punt return work.

See above. Emeka Egbuka fielded plenty of punts along with Jalen McMillan, Rachaad White and others. Man, Egbuka just looks like he can do it all, and the group looked smooth.

Palmer was last year’s punt returner but Johnson appears to have been drafted to win the job.

Todd Bowles did not disclose Johnson’s injury when asked about it today, but he put Johnson in the day-to-day category. Palmer has missed most of camp. This was Johnson’s first day on the shelf.

Joe’s a big Johnson fan, but he won’t make the team if he can’t show what he’s got. Get healthy, son!

    Let me guess: Hamstring.

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

The Bucs are dealing with a lot of injuries

And they continue to pile up

  3. Joseph C Simmons Says:

I think Tez Johnson’s ceiling is Karl “The Truth” Williams. Great moves but no top end speed. If so, I’ll take it. KW was a great returner for us.

  4. Hodad Says:

Get the he’ll out of the heat! Cut back Egbuka’s work load! We don’t need to over do it with him with Godwin out! Someone remind them first two games are indoors! No need to ground these guys down outside. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills watching these players dealing with extreme heat for no damn reason.

  5. JimBobBuc Says:

STOP using Emeka in punt returns! He’s too valuable as a receiver to get hurt in punt returns or even punt return practice.

  6. It’s brutal out here Says:

If EE gets injured practicing nonsense kicking drills after CG got injured during garbage time, someone needs to explain how to run things so your players aren’t all injured one way or another, slowing development and cohesion, before the first game. C’mon man! Glazers have too much invested in the payroll to let this keep happening

  7. 813bucboi Says:

agree with others that EE is too valuable to risk on punt return duties…

with that said, we need someone to step up cuz the punt return unit has been trash the past 2years…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  8. RedTop588 Says:

Damn this heat is killing guys also I believe there being really cautious with guys as well to not risk bigger injury let’s hope there just minor tweaks an if it was a game some of them would be playing

  9. larrd Says:

I just checked Sterling Shepard’s career stats and he’s returned all of three punts, way back in 2018.

Seems like it might be time for him! Don’t call him The Truth, call him The Expendable!

  10. larrd Says:

Actually it was 2023, on second check. The Giants must have had the same idea.

  11. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Lambo and the Nissan Juke in the shop

  12. Kenton Smith Says:

larrd, I’ve always thought Shep would make a good punt returner. And not because he’s “expendable” but because I’ve just always thought he’d be good at it. Anyway, if Tez is down I think Shep could do it!

  13. Aqualung Says:

    Darden and Dardenette both down.

  14. Anyhony Says:

    He said “big Johnson”. 🤣🤣🤣

  15. David Says:

Every year it is Hammies because of heat. I do not know the answer. They can’t go indoors and wait until week one so 3 blow up in game 1.
    Stretch and hydrate A LOT

  16. garro Says:

Neither of those dudes can afford to spend too much time in the floppy hat.

I don’t think some of the dudes they had out there are serious candidates to return punts Joe. Buka?

    Go Bucs!
