Jason Licht: Mike Evans Blessed The Draft Class

August 1st, 2025

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht loves how he’s been nailing drafts successfully in recent years as his front office executes the “I Am That Man” model.

But while those high-fives within Licht’s cabinet feel good, the ones from the locker room really tickle the GM.

Licht told Loose Cannons that early and resounding draft reviews from his elite players are extra special.

“It’s super-rewarding. It’s awesome,” Licht said. “My scouts have done a phenomenal job. They know exactly what I’m looking for; they know what this team’s chemistry is made of. And the best compliments are when, you know, these [rookies] have been around a little in the offseason and then Mike Evans shows up, comes in and says, ‘Hey man, I love the rookies. You did it again. Love these guys.’

“Like when you have Mike Evans, Lavonte [David], these guys that have been around saying, ‘Hey, you hit it out of the park with these guys as dudes.’ That’s half the battle. So that’s awesome.”

It’s a tight unit at One Buc Palace, and Joe’s glad to hear Licht share the behind-the-scenes player love for his rookies. Trust Joe, while those veterans might love everyone publicly, they’re happy to tell management if they think a player doesn’t have what it takes — veteran or rookie.

There’s no reason this team shouldn’t win at least 12 games in the regular season.

    Oh, wait.

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

If they have so much faith in these young guys

Why are they still holding on to these “unproductive” veterans?

  3. Kenton Smith Says:

Aqualung, you wait too long you’re gonna miss the bus. Think I’ll grab me a seat right up here in the front! Gonna be a heck of a ride! Hate to see you miss it.

  4. PSL Bob Says:

    Aqualung, that’s what I’ve been preaching – 12-5! LFG!!

    BEAT ATLANTA!!!

  5. MadMax Says:

    We know how…
I want to see how Roberts is doing on the D line….

  6. SlyPirate Says:

The saddest day will be when Licht hangs it up.

Every since the Winston Circus left town, this has been is a team and a brand that fans can be proud of.

  7. SlyPirate Says:

Braz had better stats than fellow Bama 1st round pick, Dallas Turner. He could still turn into an absolute draft gem.

Mike is the best! The rookies love him too, along with the rest of us. We are lucky to have all of them. Licht does it right.

  9. infomeplease Says:

Good drafts and quality pick-ups in free agency, plus TB12, got the Buc’s the Lombardi a few years back. The same can be true this time around. Time will tell.

  10. David Says:

12-5 ,13-4 is definitely doable if this defense improves at all. If they can cause the turnovers that there keying on in camp and stay healthy the forecast looks promising.why not us.We were a play away from playing in the Nfc Championship with a shaky D.Go Bucs
