Jim Rome: Baker Mayfield Is The Best Bargain

August 1st, 2025

Baker booster.

Clones! This is quality trolling here by a master troll artist.

Famed sports radio personality Jim Rome decided to sideswipe several NFL fans bases by arguing Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield is not just one of the best quarterback bargains, but maybe a better QB than some signal-callers knighted by the four-letter as elite.

First, Rome went in on Dak Prescott, obviously trying to get the giant Cowboys fanbase triggered. Rome claimed Mayfield is a better quarterback than Prescott. Rome even had the numbers to prop his case.

Then, Rome threw it out there — but didn’t go all in — that Mayfield’s numbers the past two years with the Bucs are better than “Kermit” Mahomes.

Lastly, Rome then threw massive shade on the Browns for letting Mayfield slip through their fingers only to lay in bed with a serial creep in Deshaun Watson.

While Joe wouldn’t go with Mayfield over Mahomes, Joe gets where Rome is going. And Joe also would take Mayfield over Prescott. More bang for your buck.

As for the Browns? BUH-HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Mahomes is so overrated. He hasn’t been good in 2 years. Give me Baker all day long

Thank God Joe is not a clone of him.. I avoided him on Radio (way back when) and TV, it seemed he was always impressed with the sound of his own voice.

But he is right about Cleveland.. I think that’s an easy take though, even Browns fans shake their heads.

Regardless of who it’s coming from, the stats don’t lie. Baker is balling right now. Just hope he keeps it up!

    BEAT ATLANTA!!!

  7. Gipper Says:

Easy for Rome and the pundits to say now. A few of us were telling the Joe’s and posters here the same thing two years ago. Remember Munch and oneilbuc? Doesn’t take a lot of guts to ratify things after the fact.

JL bringing in Brady was genius. Rolling with Bake afterwards was equally genius. The only way he could avoid a complete reboot was to hit on a rejected QB well below market. Kicking the can down the road with Brady’s cap hit should have cost the Bucs some losing seasons, yet the cannons kept firing!

  9. Truth be Told Says:

Where have all the Baker Haters gone? We have a True Long Term Franchise QB after 50 years of Searching! Enjoy the ride Bucs Fans. This team is going to be a SB contender as long as Baker is here. Go BUCS!!

“He lost my respect years ago.” Likely because he said something about your favorite team that is/was so incredibly benign but you took it to heart and it’s made you bitter over it to this very day. Much like society in general and the stupid tribalism happening both sides. I saw a comment other day on Facebook saying he didn’t like Rome because he said Denver would never make the Super Bowl again after Elway retired. So let me get this straight, Elway retired in 98. It took Denver 15 years to get back to the Super Bowl. Did you like…sit on this for 15 years, called his radio show 15 years later and really let him have it? Lmao what’re we doing here, holy cow people are so crazy

Rome – setting fire to the place like only Rome can. Absolute wordsmith.

  13. Stanglassman Says:

    Nice dye job.

  14. Aaron Says:

Mahomes has a future HOF Head Coach…that may even get in as a Offensive Coordinator too!

    Go Bucs!

2 years ago to say Baker was better than Dak would get you a good cussing. To say he was remotely close to the up and coming new GOAT on the block was blasphemy. Well, well and well, how the tables have turned, all of a sudden the comparisons are beginning to come out. No one will quite say he is as good for fear of becoming a pariah for life. But the comparisons are slowly leaking out, they are inevitable. Now about 1.5 years ago I made the comparison along with several others here and you would have thought some here were gutshot. Mahomes has been affored everything an NFL team could make available for the development of its young franchise quarterback-everything. While Baker had to wade through all the muck thats wrong with an NFL team. As a result, his development was stunted and delayed about 5 years, his exposure to great coaching was extremely limited which no doubt hurt his career. But, the cream always rises to the top. By Baker going through Cleveland it hurt him in so many ways. Look at Deshaun Watson. A top 10 quarterback, arguably a top 5 before Cleveland and since Cleveland, total implosion. It was a train wreck for both Baker and Watson. But since landing here Baker has taken off. If he stays healthy the comparisons will only become more regular. I won’t say he is better than Mahomes but with the right coaching there is a chance he could be developed into a quarterback that could challenge him. There IS a reason Baker won the Heisman and Mahomes didnt. Only time will tell.

Jayden Daniels is the best bargain in the NFL, by a country mile

A Pro Bowl QB on a rookie deal

Rome was the quintessential sissy ass big mouth, albeit funny, until he pissed you off and then was a chickens*** hiding behind production guys. That being said he has been right about a lot of things, this being one of them. “Tiny hands Pickens”, LOLOL now that made me laugh and think about SNL. All I see is James Franco creeped out shooing her away, LOLOLOLOL

  18. Oscar Says:

I agree that Baker is more bang for the buck than Prescott but I also would rather pay Baker 60 million than Prescott because he is better period. Davyboy, great post. I would say that Watson and Cleveland were a train wreck for each other. Baker on the other hand had the Browns on the right track finally until the Browns decided they needed to wreck the train instead of continuing to build on the progress they had made during Baker’s years there. All they had to do was build the defense a little more and things could have been different. The Bucs are doing now what the Browns should have done then. They have the offense pretty much in place so now the focus is on the defense. That’s the difference between a bad organization and a good one.

  19. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

Oscar, yes you are 100% correct. 👍🏾
