Todd Bowles Said There’s A Reason SirVocea Dennis Has Had A Quiet Camp
July 31st, 2025
Bucs ILB SirVocea Dennis.
In Joe’s mind, there are two big questions for the Bucs. Answering those successfully may mean the difference between a Super Bowl run and watching the playoffs on TV from a beach bar in Tulum.
On offense, it is, how well new offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard will fare? On defense, it’s can inside linebacker SirVocea Dennis play 10 games (or more)?
So far in training camp, through seven practices, Joe has seen very little of Dennis. This troubles Joe. Shouldn’t a starting inside linebacker make a few splash plays, just so you know the guy still has a heartbeat?
After practice today, Todd Bowles explained there is a reason Dennis has made very few splash plays. It’s because Bowles has him in pass coverage so much.
“He drops so well he’s not getting much action like he did in the spring,” Bowles explained. “He’s been where he’s supposed to be.
“He’s been great with his coverage. He just hasn’t had those opportunities [to flash].”
Is this a window into the 2025 season? Joe has to guess it is. Otherwise, why on earth would Bowles have Dennis practicing assignments he’s not going to run much?
Regardless, Bowles likes the camp Dennis is having.
“He’s really been good at the calls and running everything,” Bowles said. “He really commands the defense and gets everybody lined up, which is a full-time job with all the adjustments we had.”
So if you are wondering why Joe has rarely mentioned Dennis, now you know the rest of the story.

Meaning our QBs are hip to not throwing in Dennis’ general direction. It’d be smart to have he & David being able to trade off on who takes a TE or motioned out RB in pass scenarios.
Last year we didn’t have the luxury of choice when Dennis was out, we had to worry Liability Britt getting seared in coverage. That job was left to Lavonte, who would probably like the relief that comes with Dennis’ presence in the line up.
David needs at least 5 sacks this year, a couple picks, and about three handfuls of TFLs to keep fluffing that HOF resume. Don’t give the voters a choice ‘Vonte

Having SVD dropping into coverage is not a bad thing at all. Last year every average QB completed pass after pass to the middle of the field. This season has to be different!

Man, this is exciting. SVD can join Logan Hall and Kancey in the end zone bleachers, too.

GO BUCS!!!!

Dennis is a good to very good cover LB and it will really help us to have someone in the middle of the defense who can cover. I’m good with that plan.

During Deion Jones six seasons in Atlanta,
43 PDs, 11 INTS, 5 TDs
He’s one of the best ILB l ever seen in coverage
I think he still has it he don’t need to be taught

Middle of our D was as open as a prostitute during shore leave. Hopefully Dennis can fix that.

Fine by me. Let Dennis and the DBs cover and stop dropping Vea and Kancey and Braswell.

Of course that’s typically Lavonte’s responsibility. Grooming SirVocea as successor to David or as backup in case of injury?

I’m HOPING that this leads to less ILB blitzing and better pass coverage in the middle of the field. IF we can get adequate pressure from our 3 DLine & 1 of our OLBs, along with improved middle-of-the-field coverage, there’s no reason our pass defense can’t improve dramatically.

@PSL Bob, that’s my take too. Having Voss call plays allows LVD to play faster, backs up LVD if hurt, and prepares the team for eventual LVD retirement. I’m guessing Jones would sub for LVD if he’s hurt this year.

PSL Bob … ‘Grooming SirVocea as successor to David or as backup in case of injury?’
I think that’s EXACTLY what Bowles is planning on doing if LVD misses field time. Deion Jones & Anthony Walker are both quite experienced as MLBs.

Well just having a linebacker that is really good in coverage–sounds crazzy good. We already know he can blitz, we already know he can tackle. He knows the scheme. He is a heady player. He was an excellent player back when he played with kancey at Pitt. I like he is in coverage, he is staying healthy during training camp as compared to bang tackles.

Remember Deion Jones came in the game against Washington in the playoffs . It was doing the goal line stand, Washington had 3rd and goal from the 3 yard line. Daniels threw a pass to RB Brian Robinson , over the middle at the goal line. Deion had tight coverage, and batted the ball down. He played good against Washington, while he was in the game. I think he still have it.

Lol. Remember when the team couldn’t get lined up properly because they couldn’t understand a word Kwon was saying? Those were the days.
So long as Dennis is healthy and clear with his communication, he’ll be fine, as will the defense. Walker and Jones are both completely serviceable as well, setting the team up for a respectable middle of the pack LB crew.

Deion Jones can play. Bolwes preferred the corpse and the paraplegic. Deion didn’t “know the system” well enough.
The masturminding jeenius.

Umm why is he not going to pass cover much? Did I miss something?
Go Bucs!
