Peter Schrager: Bucky Irving, “Superstar”

July 26th, 2025

Fame!

Brace yourselves, Bucs fans. A superstar is about to be on the roster, apparently.

The Bucs haven’t had a superstar since Tom Brady was taking snaps fr the Bucs. Oh, the Bucs have had NFL stars, no doubt. Still do. But a superstar transcends sports and societal lines.

They’re known by all, no matter the sport, no matter the cultural class.

Buzz. Page Six. Entertainment shows. TMZ.

Good guy and closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager, now working for the four-letter, hosted “Last Take” this week — how refreshing was that? And there, Schrager called the next five new NFL superstars who will break out this fall so the entire nation will know their names.

At No. 5, Schrager said, is Bucs running back Bucky Irving.

“Hey, let’s start with number give and I’m going down to Tampa,” Schrager began. “It’s a second-year running back, and it is Bucky Irving.

“Started his career in Minnesota, went to Oregon, gets to the Buccaneers [as a] fourth-round pick last year, and tears up the league.

“He was fourth among running backs in yards per rush last season, trailing these three names: Derek Henry, Saquon Barkley and Jahmyr Gibbs. The guy had 1,100 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in his rookie season and the offense goes through him.

“Bucky Irving, household name.”

Joe sees Schrager working here. But for Irving to be a superstar, the Bucs have to win games. A player has to be mighty special to be a superstar and not compete for a Super Bowl.

Hey, Bucky has the goods. He’s got a million-dollar smile. He’s got the personality. He’s got rizz. And he has street cred on the field.

But for Bucky to be a superstar, the Bucs probably need to have a super [Bowl?] season.

    Met a guy who is from Oregon who is now a Bucs fan due only to Bucky. A star in the making.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

    Joe … ‘But for Irving to be a superstar, the Bucs have to win games. A player has to be mighty special to be a superstar and not compete for a Super Bowl.’

    Agree wholeheartedly with that Joe, and especially since Bucky was only a rookie last year. I think there are a few minor exceptions though (Derrick Henry for instance was a superstar when he played for the Titans IMO, but they didn’t really do much).

    Sure can make a big difference though when a gifted player gets on a talented (and winning) team.

  3. KABucs Says:

    Where is Riddlemypeter? We have video footage here if an extremely excited Peter and he’s not the first posting? LOL

    I do NOT agree with pick number three… Pickens. I think he’s in Antonio Brown waiting to blossom. Not denying his talent but he’s the wrong kind of guy to turn into a superstar, will be a total diva.

    Move Bucky up to number three, drop Pickens. Love Bucky.
    He’s already a Kay Adam’s favorite, that doesn’t hurt.

    Oh and what was up with that camera work when he was talking about Bucky? This isn’t live is it? Can’t they edit that out? They zoomed in on just Schrager’s face. Like they lost control of the zoom button. Bad form.

  4. PSL Bob Says:

    And so what’s the problem with having a SB winning season? Don’t think we can do it? Clearly, this team has more talent on offense than the Brady-led SB team. It’s the defense that is unproven. However, I firmly believe that this new, and healthy defense is going to be in the top 10 this year. SB Baby!!

    BEAT ATLANTA!!!!

  5. El hefe Says:

    Saquan was on a loosing team so was Derrick Henry but people sure af knew them a lot of star go to trash teams bijon Alvin Jacob’s if they are stars they preform end of story

  6. JimBobBuc Says:

    The Bucs need to win, with Bucky just doing his thing. Win the big night games with Bucky making his normal big plays and he’ll continue to get the recognition.

  7. Capt.Tim Says:

    I think the Bucs will will lots of games. Irving will get some recognition.
    But
    After losing Dzani and Garrett,
    And Wirfs and Opeta out for undetermined time,
    Our highly touted line suddenly looks thin and problematic.

    Hopefully we get all these young inexperienced linemen up to speed. The first half of our season may depend on them.

    Still pissed Wirfs didn’t have the surgery at the end of last season. He’d be 100% now. Also wish we could have kept Skules. After his first game fiasco- he looked great. Guess the Vikings thought so too.

  8. Hodad Says:

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Schrager is on the Falcon bandwagon to win the NFC South? A lot in the media are still picking them to unseast the Bucs. I hope we can bury that BS the first game.

  9. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

    Raheem seems to be a better X’s and O’s coach than anyone on our staff, so ATL is going to be tough for us to beat.

    Hopefully our talent is just too much for them to handle this year.

  10. Kenton Smith Says:

    Erik with Pilot and Driver. They’ve got alot of talent, especially on offense. So our defense gets an early test. We don’t need the most talent though. We need the best team.

  11. LakelandBuc Says:

    The Opener against the Falcons will be a classic

    Bijan Robinson vs Bucky Irving
    I believe slowing Bijan will be the key to victory
    We’re not gonna shut him down, but we can slow him
    The Falcons have the same plans for Bucky

  12. Aqualung Says:

    For the Bucs to win games, they’ll need to score a lot of points. More points than last year.

  13. Obvious Says:

    Cannot wait to watch this dude behind our line. His vision is on par with Barkley, Faulk.

  14. Rick Says:

    I’ve been a Bucs fan since 1976. My wife is not a football fan. She gets exposed to the Bucs while I watch the games. We had a bull calf born November 2024. I asked her what we should name him? She said Bucky. So, your definition of super star applies.

  15. Anyhony Says:

    he has street cred on the field
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Wouldn’t that be field cred?
  16. RedTop588 Says:
