Road Creamsicles Coming?

July 5th, 2025

Road throwbacks?

Joe is a huge fan of the creamsicles. But once, maybe twice a year is fine.

Unfortunately, the NFL wants to go full-blown Oregon where each team wears weird uniforms every other week. What happened to brand recognition? What happened to walking into a bar, seeing a TV or surfing at home and knowing immediately who is playing? Now, especially at a bar, you sometimes need five minutes to figure out who is playing?

Brand recognition, man! Identity! Image!

So, per John Breech of CBS, the Bucs are set to unveil a week from Tuesday, July 15, a new alternate uniform that is rumored to be a road alternate. You know, the white creamsicles.

For Joe, the keyword here is “road,” if the rumor is true. Joe’s seen games with visiting teams wearing throwbacks along with the home team. Do the Bucs plan to wear white throwbacks in a road game and the creamsicles at home against the Dixie Chicks on Dec. 11?

The white creamsicles were OK. The home creamsicles are beautiful classics!

Despite Joe loving the creamsicles, Joe’s getting worn out with the weirdo uniforms. With the exception of one home game a year, stick with the classics! The classics are classics for a reason.

Some of these throwbacks are absolute eyerakes. For example, Joe might punch a hole in the wall if the Bucs ever bring back those Jameis Winston alarm clock numbers.

Against Seattle would be nice. 50 year, expansion anniversary.

  2. Aqualung Says:

We’ve won one game in those horrid atrocities – Josh Freeman’s debut against Green Bay.

    Why.

  3. FilthyAnimal Says:

I’m not concerned they’ll ever bring the Jameis era atrocities. The Glazers recognized the error and dumped them.

Road alternate – could it be the white jersey with creamsicle pants combo?

  4. Joe Says:

    atrocities

That’s about the word to call those things.

    “Jameis Winston alarm clock numbers.”

The only uniforms that were worse than those are the neon red “color rush” unis. They looked like pajamas.

Those were HORRIBLE. Joe was in the press box for the final NFL game in St. Louis for that game and those ketchup and mustard bottle uniforms those teams wore that night took civilization back 80 years. What a garish display by the NFL.

Ditto that Joe! Nike has lost it and so has the NFL. This football dang it!

    Go Bucs!

That uh scoreboard thingy permanently affixed during gameplay comes in handy… you’d have to be at least 2 sheets to the wind not to figure it out in 5 seconds these days.

This is truly exciting news. Can’t wait for the update and pics.

Agree, if they were to bring back digital clock numbers, we all will be screaming out loud.

the one uniform I miss is the pewter and red which also happened to be worn by some of my favorite Bucs players of the past.

JBF…in all fairness, we don’t wear the classics like we should. I’m not sure if there is another team in the NFL that DOES NOT wear the home jersey as often as we do, and it doesn’t matter what time of year it is, it’s warm enough where our Bucs leadership still sees it as an advantage. I think this started with Arains/Bowles era. During the lost decade, we had a LOT of 1 pm games, and I thought we at least saw home reds 5-6 times a season. I’m not exaggerating when I say the Bucs wore reds 4 times last season, 2 was during a primetime game I believe.

17 games is a lot, I’m good with a home and away creamsicle. I also would like to see the all-Pewter back. That was one of the better alternates.

The all whites are awesome. Reflect that sun back where it belongs!

  13. Pickgrin Says:

All white Creamsicle was my favorite look for the Bucs back in the day…..

Having the Bucs and Seahawks wear throwbacks in Seattle makes a lot of sense in celebration of both teams 50th anniversary….

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

I’ve got PTSD from all the creamsicle losses, they should be worn in preseason only.

  15. KABucs Says:

Leighroy, I was thinking the same thing.

These days the score is at the bottom corner almost the whole game with little abbreviations of the teams city.

It could take you 5 minutes to figure out who’s playing if can you start watching during halftime or an end of quarter commercial break.

But yeah, some of the colors are ridiculous. Bucky & Tez are probably used to this from their college days of wearing construction worker colors… and a whole lot of other colors.

I’ve been a Bucs fan for 40 years, and I have no idea why people still like the creamsicle uni’s. They represent a time period of mostly terrible football, and the color scheme and logo are ugly in my opinion.

One of the greatest days in franchise history was the day we announced and introduced our new pewter and red uni’s.

  17. FortMyersDave Says:

I am with JimBobBuc and Aqualung on the Creamsicles. If we do a throwback, lets do one from 1997 when the Bucs shut down The Sombrero with a playoff win vs Detroit, not the uniforms that represented cheapskate Hugh Culverhouse and many seasons of losing football. Let Bucco Bruce stay retired in Key West during the regular season. If we have to do a Creamsicle throwback, break them out for a pre-season game……..

  18. ChiBuc Says:

Let’s get “full blown Oregon!” Away creamsicles (pictured), pewter pants (with that old school orange n red stripe pictured above), pewter dome with an orange flag.

I agree with Joe about classic looks being easily identifiable; that’s what made the creamsicles so great. No other team (except TN) had a similar shade of orange….how many teams can you name with red jerseys? KC, ATL, now Buffalo, AZ, SF, HOU, I’m pretty sure I’ve even seen the Patriots in red, and let’s not even get started on college

  19. PewterStiffArm Says:

Actually, the worst one’s were the solid pewter/gray with white numbers with the red outline. A good change for the throw backs would be Bucco Bruce white tops and orange pants, this combo hasn’t been seen lately.

  20. Bucfanforever Says:

The road game should be attached to when the home team is wearing their throwbacks. Having throwback v current is silly. So each team would have 1 home and 1 away.

  21. Todd Says:

Profit margin on clothing is massive and new styles bring in new buyers so uni changes are very lucrative for the league and the team. Looking forward to July 15.

  22. ballwasher61 Says:

The white uniform was the original and only uniform the Bucs wore when they started home or away and the Orange jersey introduced shortly after if I recall it right.

  23. ballwasher61 Says:

And personally if I was wearing a throw back as a player I would want to destroy the opponent to make up for all the crap that came before in that uniform.
