Baker Mayfield Ring Of Honor Candidate… For The Browns!
June 17th, 2025This is too hilarious and too much of an uncontested layup for Joe to pass on.
Could Baker Mayfield be in the Bucs’ Ring of Honor someday? Perhaps, but he’s got to win a lot more games and maybe a Super Bowl.
Currently, Doug Williams is the lone quarterback in the Bucs’ Ring of Honor. Two guys who won Super Bowls for the Bucs, Brad Johnson and Tom Brady, are standing on the sidelines asking, “Where’s my flex?”
So Mayfield, in Joe’s eyes, will have to wait his turn.
However, another team Mayfield played for apparently is getting some run to put Mayfield in their legendary Ring of Honor, and that’s the Browns.
Someone by the name of Xavier Crockett, who has a Browns-centric podcast “Honor the Land,” and certainly has a popular Browns-themed TikTok with nearly a quarter-million followers, tried to make the case recently that Mayfield needs serious consideration for being knighted an all-time Browns great.
“I think there is a real conversation that Baker Mayfield should be in that Ring of Honor because Baker Mayfield played a huge, huge role in where we are today,” Crockett said.
Where the Browns are today? You’re wanting to honor a guy who helped make a once proud, historic and model NFL franchise into the laughing stock it is? If anything, Mayfield was a victim!
Does that mean next year the Bucs ought to put lousy Lovie Smith and Mike Smith into the Bucs’ Ring of Honor — because the Bucs wouldn’t be where they without the rank ineptitude of those two?
(Quick: What does Tyrod Taylor, Mitch Trubisky, Case Keenum and Paxton Lynch have in common? They all looked like Terry Bradshaw vs. Mike Smith’s Bucs defense.)
(Quick II: In what turned out to be a galling, historic defensive collapse forever known as the “Capitol Collapse,” Lovie Smith said he didn’t want to score more points.)
Joe thinks it is funny as hell that the Browns — run by an “I’m-smarter-than-you” stats guy, saw fit to run off Mayfield for serial scumbag Deshaun Watson, and Mayfield is now thriving as one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
The Browns currently have four quarterbacks, led by long-ago washed-up journeyman Joe Flacco. If you have two quarterbacks, you have none, and when you have four quarterbacks, you are tanking for the first pick in next year’s draft.
Thanks Brownies. The Bucs wouldn’t be where they are today without you.
Browns fans all want Nick Chubb in the Ring of Honor… but should Baker Mayfield join him?@loebsleads + @chefzae23 debate ⤵️

“I didn’t want to score points” is the same as “I didn’t want us to turn the ball over” when it was Tom freaking Brady at qb.
What team was it that the Bucs lost to when Todd said that?

Browns.

I can argue that Baker mayfield definitely sparked the upward trajectory and respect that the browns have seemed to garner these past few years. People forget that the two years prior to getting baker, they were something like 1-31, including an 0-16 season. He took them to the playoffs and gained them some long awaited traction. How long was their playoff drought before him. I know it sounds crazy. But I can see where they are coming from with their logic

Thanks for bringing back the Lovie Smith nightmares, Joe. Now I have to stock up on Ambien and Jack so I can sleep through the night. Maybe I’ll watch my Bucs SB XXXVII DVD to get that nasty taste out of my brain.

Joe, I took my son to the Raymond James Stadium tour yesterday and they were reorganizing the team store and they had a Tom Brady jersey on a mannequin in the Ring of Honor area yesterday and it made me wonder if they were planning on adding Brady to the club this year? Also it was really nice to see Jon Gruen’s name back up there on the ring of honor area where it belongs.

He did have the best commercials in the history of the Cleveland Browns
June 17th, 2025 at 7:14 am
I’m soooo glad, I’m not a Brown’s fan. Talk about the Bucs and the Lost Decade. Cleveland fans are stuck in purgatory!

I am happy for Baker. Cleveland fans liked Baker and many were saddened when they brought that other QB in, breaking the bank.
Lightningvinny – Yes, his commercials were awesome!

Sean G:
Cool about Gruden. Who knows what Team Glazer has for the future with Tom Brady and the Ring of Honor. But he absolutely should be in there.
Seems like you and your son had a good time.

Some people here forget that we traded Steve Young to San Francisco. I know we didn’t draft him, but I understand how Browns fans must feel watching Baker Mayfield winning games with another team. Steve Young should have been someone to build a team around for the Bucs. Whatever we got in the trade, didn’t help.

If there was ever a fan base that deserves better it is the Cleveland NFL football fans. Would love to see those fans finally get a Super Bowl victory. Even the Dog Pound days ended up in misery. Had a buddy, from Cleveland, big muscle bound dude that had just left the Army that was reduced to tears after watching the Browns lose to the Broncos in that infamous playoff game known as “The Fumble”. That is a group that’s had some seriously hard luck.

Season before Mayfield got to CLV they infused an extra 90$ million into Talent.
Browns season in 2020 where according to the B Bois Mayfield single handedly took the Browns on a Miracle Ride.
Browns had the best OLine
Browns had a dominant running game.
Browns had two dominant receivers and tight end.
Browns had one of the best defenses in the league.
Browns had the 4th easiest schedule.
Browns won 11 games and finished 3rd in the Division. Ring of Honor Worthy? Nope. Barely beat a 1 win Jags team and lost to a 2 win Jets team and a possible division crown because he put the ball on the ground twice.
Browns realized that Mayfield was not the guy and invested a 1/4 of a Billion
in a QB that had a couple good year and throwing for over 2K.
Since then Watson has not done squat and crippled the team. perhaps for years to come.
BTW the season before the Browns made the 1/4 Billion blunder Watson led the league with 70.2 Completion Percentage and threw for 4823 yards. On paper it looked like a good move.
Two things for sure is Hindsight is 20/20 and History repeats itself. Could add a leopard can’t change his spots and claim the Mayfield Mistake Machine will continue to churn out the Turnovers but that would be beating a dead horse.
Time will tell if the Bucs make that same 1/4 billion blunder and end up with Zip.

So Oops I dropped my taco, Jamis was just a “Lil’ Hassel”, in a long line of them. While Watson is a “Serial Scumbag”… This a bad double standard… neither acts are normal… Both should have been held Accountable for their personal choices.
Mayfield did himself good by heading out of Cleveland… Took his lumps, with Charlotte, LA… and now us. I am glad we have him… a former #1 QB just like our former blind late night AZ taco hassle guy…
Ready to see Baker bake this season…
GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

In 2020, the Browns got hosed by the officials in the AFC Championship game. That would have been the best game with tons of headlines.
Baker – Brady (both had MVP worthy seasons)
OBJ – Evans (in there primes and same draft class)
Garrett – Shaq & JPP

Baker quarterbacked Cleveland 2020, postseason–beat Pittsburgh and really beat Kansas City, KC went to superbowl instead of Cleveland 11-5
Baker fractured shoulder, played anyway 2021 8-9
The great Watson with the “great” teammates 2022 7-10
Mmmhmm
June 17th, 2025 at 4:32 pm
See, when Baker had Cleveland winning like they hadn’t since before Baker was born, 1995, they played Kansas City in the AFC Divisional Round at home in Arrowhead stadium. mmmhmm There was a touchdown called back due to a fumble in the endzone. What caused Cleveland to fumble was when a Kansas City safety hit the receiver with the crown of his helmet, launched directly into the head of the Cleveland receiver. The hit was a perfect targeting/spearing, helmet to helmet hit, but somehow the refs didn’t “see” it. I guess the helmet to helmet rule violation was suspended for that game. They just forgot to tell both teams about it. Even though they showed it over and over again in slow motion. Everyone in the football world knew what it was. It was obvious, but somehow the refs didn’t know. The results: they took the touchdown away and gave the ball to Kansas City. Kansas City went on to play in the superbowl instead of Cleveland. The point being, 23 year old Baker Mayfield took an utterly failing NFL organization, that had a record of 1-31, on his shoulders and if not for the refs “missing” 😉 the most obvious targeting call in league history, Targetgate, would have played in the superbowl. I’m not sure that has ever been done, has it? From 1-31 to 3 years later “really” beating a team that was quaterbacked by Patrick Mahomes and was good enough to play in the superbowl a week or two later. I’m just glad we have THAT guy.
June 17th, 2025 at 4:41 pm
“Fan of the south” you’re way off. They had one good receiver, Landry and three journeymen; Higgins, Hodge, and Peoples-Jones. (I trust you’re not counting obj, the Brown’s offense went on a tear after that overrated POS got hurt). Their tight end, Njoku was decent, but raw. Their defense was ranked 21st overall and 18th in points allowed, hardly one of the best defenses in the league. There’s a never ending effort to diminish Mayfield’s accomplishments with the Browns.
June 17th, 2025 at 4:53 pm
Baker Mayfield hasn’t won nothing yet he hasn’t even played in a conference championship game yet so let’s please stop with the Baker Mayfield is great talk.
June 17th, 2025 at 5:01 pm
Actually, if they hadn’t suspended the helmet to helmet violation, you know, targeting, when Cleveland played Kansas City in 2020 Baker would have been in the superbowl with Cleveland instead of Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes and you know it.
June 17th, 2025 at 5:11 pm
Targetgate I believe they called it
June 17th, 2025 at 5:38 pm
Why do you think Licht and Bowles wanted Baker?? Oh they know exactly what Baker accomplished at Cleveland and how Targetgate affected the outcome in 2020.
June 17th, 2025 at 7:51 pm
True… Several horrible, results altering calls in that game. If Clevelands ownership wasn’t so stupid they’d have a Superbowl by now 🤡
June 17th, 2025 at 9:33 pm
Again Baker Mayfield haven’t won nothing and I don’t care about good seasons in trash division. With the record from the past 2 years if we were in another division we wouldn’t even made the playoffs. It’s NFC Championship or bust no more excuses!!
June 18th, 2025 at 2:07 am
Onei, I guess in your book Drew Brees was a bust because he didn’t win a superbowl until his 9th year in the league. And for another 11 didn’t win anything.
June 18th, 2025 at 2:21 am
Dan Marino is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time but he only won 1 conference championship in his 17 year career. He went 15 years without winning anything. And he was on a good team with a great coach. Sometimes ALL the pieces just dont come together. What you are demanding is unrealistic but it’s your unrealistic.😉 but by your standard he would be a bust also.
