“Dawg Mentality” Referenced As Key
June 9th, 2025Are these Buccaneers really a bunch of nasty, all-in tough guys?
Lavonte David thinks so. Speaking this weekend to Peter Blake on The Sports Web, David lauded Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht for collecting players with a “dawg mentality.” For David, that largely means players going 100 percent on game days.
Joe knows the Bucs have a bunch of “dawgs,” but perhaps they need more. And is that why Todd Bowles says players (not coaches) need to rally and find their “killer instinct?”
The iconic linebacker went on to talk about how Tom Brady raised everyone’s mentality at One Buc Palace, including his.
And David said he tries to keep that Brady way flowing through new Buccaneers. “That’s something I want to sprinkle on the younger guys,” he said.
David sounded like a player addicted to the winning that eluded him early in his career. He said the steady fan bashing and the lasting horror of the 2-14 season in 2015 were weights lifted off him when the Bucs won the Super Bowl.

Let’s just hope David can ride off into the sunset with yet another SB ring on his hand.

We have a new offensive coordinator. So I guess we’ll find out if old dawgs can learn new tricks.

Gonna need dawgs in the dawg days of summer and not be dawging it. Ok, I’m done.

Time for the SB vets to start talking how hard it is to get there, lessons learned from Brady, and putting in the extra work now. A healthy Bucs team can go deep.

JimBob…I agree. A healthy Bucs team can do some serious damage in the playoffs.
LFG!

I hope the O-lime puts all that huge working out in the gym to work crushing our opponents and opening huge holes in the run game. That will certainly make everything easier.

If I was in the media I’d love to ask Lavonte “you’ve been on both a Super-bowl winning team and a 2-14 team. What were the main differences between the 2? Was it all talent?” I agree with trying to recreate the magic of a Super Bowl team. This is definitely the roster and the time to do it.

After watching last year’s softer than charmin defense that collapsed at crunch time, it almost seemed like they expected it.
A team takes the personality of its half a head coach.

A Dawg mentality is fine, but to me the most telling is whether our players will be in ‘Game Shape’. Go listen to Ian Becklesn on Jay Recher’s podcast, explain what that is. Lack of ‘Game Shape’ is one of the reasons The Bucs have had mid-season slumps in my opinion.
