Emeka Egbuka Impresses His Playcaller
May 20th, 2025
Rookie Bucs playcaller Josh Grizzard.
With a new haircut and a few months as offensive coordinator under his belt, Bucs rookie playcaller Josh Grizzard was back in front of the media this morning.
He’s loving his new toys gifted via the NFL Draft: receivers Emeka Egbuka (Round 1) and Tez Johnson (Round 7).
Grizzard said Egbuka came endorsed by buddies he had on the Ohio State staff, and landed in Tampa as advertised.
“He just embodies everything we believe in here when it comes to being selfless, tough, disciplined, being able to play multiple positions,” Grizzard said.
The “tough” adjective came up a second time.
Joe’s just glad the Egbuka gushing hasn’t waned. He was silky smooth in rookie camp and now the Bucs have progressed to real spring practices, aka underwear football.

I’m thinking offensive rookie of the year.

ORotY is a pipe dream.
He would have to emerge as our #1 and put up like 1300 and 10.
BTJ and Nabers had great years last year and weren’t even sniffing that award. Look what Bucky did for us and he wasn’t close.
Small market Tampa where Lavonte can’t make a pro bowl and we think Emeka has an awards shot!?
Ward and Jeanty the guys to beat. McMillan will get a ton of work in CAR, everyone slobbers over GB so Golden is gonna get his press.
I like the optimism and enthusiasm guys but it’s not realistic barring a few crazy things happening.

I don’t see any awards coming to the kid this year unless something bad happens. Well, unless he actually beats out Godwin. If he turns out to be that good…..

The Bucs have such an embarrassment of riches in the WR room now.
The offense in general is just flat out loaded.
– Top 10 QB
– Top 5 WRs
– Top 5 OLine
– Top 5 RBs
– Top 15 TEs
Grizz is a lucky man! This supercharged offense is going to make him look like a genius, the next big thing, etc…
I honestly wonder if a first time NFL play caller has EVER stepped into being in charge of such a talented offense to start his playcalling career??
I think defenses (even good ones) will be hard pressed all year to hold this Bucs offense to under 30 points…..

Pickgrin, they’ll hold us under 30 points sometimes if we only have possession 7 times and only throw the ball 18 times. That shouldn’t happen again and you’re dead right-even good defenses will be hard pressed to hold this bunch under 30. If Mayfield stays healthy this offense could lead the league pushing 32 or more ppg.

Baker hasn’t missed a game yet. His toughness and willingness to put his body on the line every single play is what has made me a fan. That being said I hope he does stay healthy. The only way defenses will be able to keep this offense in check will be when the oline has a bad game and baker has no time to throw. This will prob happen a few times this season unfortunately. Our oline is legit but a few times last year baker was under to much pressure and was running for his life.

I was taken aback by how smoothly he moves. Every movement seems completely natural. I questioned the need for a wr at 19th overall. But after seeing some film he’s going to be a great fit for this offense. For years to come.

I’m impressed with the positive impressions.

I was surprised on draft night. Looking back and considering the other picks, I’m extremely hyped about Egbuka (that the Rams, who draft exceptionally well, tried to trade up for him says it all) and the whole draft class. Licht et al. nailed it.
