Jason Licht Says Benjamin Morrison Expected To Be Ready For Training Camp

April 30th, 2025

National TV appearance.

Friday is when Bucs rookies report for rookie minicamp at One Buc Palace. And while the practices are closed to the general public, fans shouldn’t expect Benjamin Morrison to be on the practice fields behind the building.

Morrison, the Bucs’ second-round pick last Friday night, has been rehabbing after hip surgery. While he did work out just before the draft with a Bucs scout among the attendees, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht said Morrison is unlikely to participate in practices next weekend.

Licht, appearing today on The Pat McAfee Show, said if push came to shove, Morrison probably could go next weekend. But the Bucs want to play it safe and make sure Morrison is full speed for training camp.

So it sounds as if Morrison will not be involved in underwear football at all. At least, that’s the plan the Bucs have laid out as of April 30.

Since his last year of high school, Morrison has had three surgeries, two of which were hip surgeries, one for each hip.

Great news. Whether he starts or comes in after a Dean injury, great problem to have.

  2. TBBucFan Says:

Let’s hope all the injuries are behind him.

  3. PanhandleBuc Says:

Great interview at the 1 hour and 22 min mark! JL getting his recognition FINALLY!

  4. Aqualung Says:

Underwear football sucks anyway. Kenny Bell and Jaelen Dardum looked great in underwear football.

  5. MelvinJunior Says:

I thought he also had reconstructive shoulder surgery for a torn labrum last year… And, that was his second!? I guess, maybe, it was vice-versa then, TWO ‘hips’ and just ONE shoulder. Now, I wasn’t ‘all-in’ on Jihaad Campbell (like many others), but I guess the ‘value’ on him at #19 wasn’t worth-it to them, but #53 for Morrison (a 1st-rounder, when 💯 healthy, and at full-strength) was.

  6. teacherman Says:

    Parish is our starting nickle.

Morrison is a backup outside CB this year

We don’t need to play Morrison right away.

    But Parish is need ASAP.

Although, I would be okay with Izien as our starting nickle.

I would prefer to see what Parish can do with his 4.3 speed.

Izien and Merriweather are our backup safeties.

I hope Shilo can mark the practice squad.

  7. Regulator16 Says:

Jamel Dean of the draft. Great pick!

  8. stpetebucsfan Says:

“Jamel Dean of the draft. Great pick!”

Yep. Jamel was a key player on D in the Bucs SB win. He and Carlton Davis made an excellent pair of CB’s.

    Hopefully history repeats.

  9. SlyPirate Says:

We have crazy depth at CB, WR, OLB, and DL. Let the injured players rehab.

  10. Hodad Says:

If he’s ready for training camp he’ll be ready to take the starting corner spot from Dean. Morrison was drafted to replace Dean, not back him up. If he’s healthy he will win the starting job. They’ve tolerated Dean till they could replace him. They just did with Morrison.

  11. SwissCheeseDefense Says:

So we passed on a healthy lock down corner and got an unneeded WR instead.

Then we picked an injury riddled CB in round two that will not make rookie practices.

Boy, Licht really loves wasting that round two pick, not to mention the first.

No worries folks. The same guy that brought you the worst pass defense in the NFL is on the case.

  12. RagingBrisket Says:

The odds we bought a lemon are not insignificant

  13. GoneGator Says:

Our secondary should be GREATLY improved.

Our pass rush should be better (we did finish 7th in sacks) with Reddick, Yaya, Braswell, Walker on the edge + Vita, Kancey etc inside.

Run defense just needs to hold steady (ranked 4th)

ILB needs more depth soon but if our guys can stay healthy we should be ok for now.

We should have some $ available for FA’s if needed to add more talent to ILB and defensive line if needed.

We’ll all be singing his (JL) praises next year when EE and J-Mac are killing it. Jason is looking at short term and long…. Godwin is not guaranteed to be the Chris we are used to – Mike will be gone after 1-2 more years. The young recievers are the future and it was definitely smart to draft EE.

We still got 2 (by all accounts) EXCELLENT corners and 2 guys who can rush the passer. Those additions could, possibly, make a HUGE difference in improving our pass D

We only had 6 picks – you can’t add to every position group with 6 picks. Everyone seems to agree, you ideally draft BPA and not for need. Seems to me that’s what we’ve done BUT needs were definitely still met.

  14. GoneGator Says:

I said “we’ll all be singing his praises”

Correction…. All of us other than the same couple of turd hunters. 🤣

  15. Beeej Says:

His hip surgeries were corrective, not a result of injuries

Do you only want to hear your own Polly positive thoughts repeated back to you?

Imagine a world in which we all thought the same way and never questioned the powers that be as the perfect brain trust to lead us to a perfect utopia.

Oh wait, we did that already. It was the scam-demic.

GoneGator is still wearing his mask.

Aaah, this explains everything… You’re one of those conspiracy around every corner, government trying to control people’s lives just for fun, anti-vax, freedumb-believin’, alternative truthers. Okay whack job.

Bless your little pea picking heart. I forgot that in addition to being a prlck you’re also suffering from obvious mental illness.

I wish you peace and serenity 🙏🏼

    ^^^^^^^
Barron might be good, he MIGHT be an Outside Corner, he might be a Nickel Corner. Would you draft a Nickel Corner in the 1st Round? We’ll know the answers in 3 to 4 years, and you’re gonna complain every day until then.

  21. Joe in Michigan Says:

Who ya gonna believe Swiss Cheese For Brains, who, as far as we know, has no access to Morrison’s medicals, or the actual doctors? I’m sure Swiss Miss thought Mike Evans was an “unneeded receiver” when he was drafted too, right? Hahaha, Swisstard supplies hours of comedy!

  22. geno711 Says:

    Pretty hilarious thread.

Gonegators makes a comment about turd hunters and

    Swisscheesedefense responds he is one.

  23. Gipper Says:

The test of this draft will come against a NFC South rival when Bucs are up by 4 with 1:15 left on the clock. ATL or NO drives the ball for a TD and Bucs lose by 3. Just don’t see a significantly improved defense. Hiring a reluctant Reddick as FA EDGE isn’t significant. Walker is a steady LB but not a game changer. A blockbuster trade for Hendrickson would have been meaningful. Still not to late if Bucs willing to part with #2 in 2026, Logan Hall, and Jamel Dean.

  24. Fred McNeil Says:

It’s both good and bad that Egbuka probably won’t start often this year unless Godwin’s return is delayed. I’m not in love with that particular selection, but I can see why they did that. This Morrison’s injury past concerns me too, although I love the ball skills. I’d feel a whole lot better if we signed another experienced ILB before camp opens. If we can just make a few more stops on third and long we should win at least 1 or 2 more games.

  25. CleanHouse Says:

the guy on espn said lets see if he can run. everyone slow down

SwissCheese thanks for revealing your scientific lack of knowledge as well!!!

In case you missed the scoreboard. Nothing political, no party, just FACTS!

Scoreboard – The United States has consistently had among the highest COVID-19 mortality rates in the world, ranking among the top twenty-five countries globally where COVID was deadliest in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

In our happy state we had FOUR TIMES the number of Covid deaths as the entire nation of Austrailia even though they have 14% more population.

Why don’t you try telling the relatives and loved ones of those 1,219,487 who died from a SCAM!

  27. TombsEN Says:

I swear this site has some of the most uninformed posters and the Joe’s do not make it better. Morrison had two hip surgeries that were corrective in nature and not because something happened on the field. So the injury prone designation doesn’t fly with him. Oh and Ed Reed and Brett Favre had the same surgeries…..

  28. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Tombs

Thanks for the facts and the interesting tidbits about Ed Reed and Brett Favre.

  29. Jeffrey Becker Says:

also, the surgeries were intentionally staggered over time

  30. DBS Says:

Keep crying BDawg. Keep changing your name. What ever you have to say under all your names including BSucks nobody in the front office cares. My guess is you are another college player that was never even close to being drafted. But of course you know more than the real pros do. Let us know when you become an NFL GM.

  31. SwissCheeseDefense Says:

Covid wasn’t real. It was all made up. Just a dry run to see how many people they could control. And it worked like a charm.

People like you believe what the TV tells you to think.

It was just a bad flu.

The “vaccine” didn’t stop transmission or contraction.

    But it did cause Myocarditis.

    Wake up fool.
