Baker Mayfield Treated Emeka Egbuka’s Family To Brunch

April 29th, 2025

Bonding.

Now this is how a franchise quarterback gets on the same page as his brand new toy.

Baker Mayfield wasted no time last weekend getting comfortable with his new, shiny weapon, Bucs first-round pick Emeka Egbuka. It was as if Mayfield gave a brand new Mustang from Bill Currie Ford a spin down Himes Avenue.

Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht made an appearance this morning with popular sports radio and TV host Adam Schein on “Schein on Sports,” heard exclusively on SiriusXM Radio’s “Mad Dog Radio” channel.

There, Licht explained how Egbuka was less than 24 hours into his Bucs career and already Mayfield took charge.

When Egbuka and his family arrived from California via Air Glazer, Mayfield met his new receiver and his family and took the group out for brunch.

The Bucs had kept their plans to draft Egbuka so well under wraps, not even Mayfield had a clue the Bucs were going to draft an offensive player on Thursday night, per Licht.

Licht said he made a deal with Mayfield. Licht said he promised Mayfield he would tip him off to the pick the instant the Bucs sent the card in. Licht said he texted Mayfield, “You are going to like this… ” and then dropped Egbuka’s name into the text.

PMayfield immediately replied, in Licht’s words, “Aw, expletive.” And the expletive, Licht said, was very positive.

You can hear Licht tell Schein the story in the audio below.

Thought that was a sign of good luck?

  6. Truth be Told Says:

How lucky we are to have a Stud Leader as our Franchise QB. Go Bucs!!

  7. Vanessa Anne Says:

Just another example of why it’s so easy to cheer our team on, and root for all of the guys!

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Cheap Bastard….should have been dinner!!!

Why so negative. Dude had 41TD passes last season 2nd in the league! He did this without CG for ten games and ME13 out for 3 and hampered in many more earllier games. He finished well. So a QB loses his top two targets for half a season and we still have people cheap shotting him?

He must have thrown a few good tosses eh?

Mayfield is the consummate team player!!! And one gets the feeling it comes naturally to him because he has had to EARN every spot on every team he’s played. He is a true lunchpail guy that a Joe Buc Fan can relate.

I see great things in the horizon for this team. It’s nice to have an ADULTS in the room.

  11. Pewter Pirate Says:

Baker=Leader on and off the field

  12. BucVoyager Says:

We are very lucky to have Baker on this team. I wasn’t really on board with his initial signing but he won me over with his play after he was named starter.

  13. Teacherman Says:

Can we convince Gronkowski to chase another ring?

  14. Teacherman Says:

Gronk would love to play for Baker.

Imagine this offense with Gronkowski blocking?

    Bro.

Let’s offer Gronk a big contract.

    Chase a ring for real!

  15. Esteban85 Says:

Baker is a stud qb and a damn good human. Great job by Licht & Co. for their investment in this young man. I do think it will win us a Super Bowl soon. Baker May not be the perfect QB but with all these weapons around him and such a killer offensive line, I think he can get it done. Nothing but first class acts by Bake since walking into one Buc

  16. Irishmist Says:

Stpetebucsfan- I was making a joke. I actually like Baker and think he’s a top tier QB. I just think that with all the things in this messed up world that should be taken seriously, sports isn’t one of them.

  17. James west Says:

Should’ve bought him an f150 from bill Curry Ford, and then dinner, hey baker you can make it up and buy me a Harley ha ha ha just busting on ya good job QB1

  18. Durango 95 Says:

Great teammate.Great player. Most exciting QB in franchise history. If you don’t like Baker Mayfield you don’t like football.

  19. MadMax Says:

    CLASS!

    Esteban85 Says:

Baker pretty close to being “the perfect QB.” Great arm, great leadership, practices hard, well liked by teammates. What exactly is he missing?
Next 8 years he will be building his HOF resume’ with multiple trips to SB. His career parallels Drew Brees. The best is yet to come.

  21. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Trask would have taken them to Brunch and Dinner because he’s better than Baker at everything, he just needs a shot. Right occult members?

    ^^^^^^^^^

    That’s really funny.

I’m not a Trask fanatic but I will say he’d be QB 1-2 in that draft class.

  23. Cometowin2 Says:

He shld work out with Drew Brees on the one thing I would like to see him improve. Deep ball accuracy. Josh Freeman had his best season after working out in the off season with Brees.

  24. What it is Says:

    Bake

As Cleveland continues its search for a franchise QB

  26. adam from ny Says:

    shake and bake…sizzle and grizzle…

    it’s like a cooking show…!

    we’re gonna be cookin’…

    cookin’ in the pot !

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

He will more likely choke in the playoffs turnover the ball at a bad time just like always and it won’t be his fault why we lost the game. NFC Championship or bust!!

  28. Curse of Gruden Says:

Did I hear Baker is buying people Fords from Bill Curry?

  29. Kenton Smith Says:

Irishmist, Agree. stpetebucsfan-like me- get our cackles up when we think Baker is being cheap shot. It’s a game for kids to have fun and that’s when it’s fun to watch too. But don’t say we can’t take it seriously. Ever seen those guys cry after a heartbreaking loss? They care so we care. But you’re 100 percent right that there are plenty of things to be taken seriously right about now and sports is not one of them. And Irishmist you predicted that prank call story and the 21 year old would have legs. You were right, I saw some show today and they talked about it for 10 or 15 minutes. I’ll bet that young man feels like a dumbass right about now.

  30. Kidfloflo Says:

Question is Joe…where did they go for brunch?

  31. stpetebucsfan Says:

    IrishMist

Point well taken! I’m a sucker not a loser. That is to say that while I joined the Army voluntarily and also volunteered I realize now I was a true sucker. Had many deferments available along with plenty of “white privilege”. I did not go to see THIS!

I’m not a loser however I was lucky enough to get back alive. Sadly 58,220 of my fellow mates over there never made it back and yes they were “losers” of their lives. Kind of rankles me when I consider the guy who made the comment used his “white privelege” and wealth to dodge the draft.

If it sounds like I’m bitter it’s because I am, but I”m working hard and am getting past it.

  32. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey SlyPirate, how much does it cost? You know, for the space Trask is renting, or is it more of a lease option in your head?

Cool story. Glad Baker and Trask are our QBs. Both of them, SlyPirate.. Excited to see Pratt play as well.

    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

  33. RustyRhinos Says:

BA RED PEN… SO Sorry SlyPirate…

  34. Lightningvinny Says:

Hey , Since 2020 it’s been pretty cool being a fan of the Tampa teams,,, 1 Super Bowl and a few division Titles , 2 Stanley Cups ,,3 conference Championships , Hell even the low budget Rays have made the playoffs ,,, just saying , there are worse places to be
