Should Jamel Dean Be Worried?
April 25th, 2025
Benjamin Morrison, the Bucs’ second-round pick.
Joe doesn’t think Jamel Dean is in danger. Yet.
The Bucs finally threw meat to the wolves howling about the Bucs drafting Emeka Egbuka last night and drafted injury-prone cornerback Benjamin Morrison of Notre Dame.
So let Joe get this straight: A guy who cannot stay on the field is going to replace a guy who cannot stay on the field? Ha!
Morrison is a superior talent but the guy is always banged up. Morrison had to have hip surgery. In his six games this year, Morrison had 20 tackles and four pass breakups.
Morrison is a great talent. So long as he is on the field.
In other words, he was the Jamel Dean of Notre Dame.

Benjamin Morrison was considered one of the top cornerbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft, and had he stayed healthy, his stock would have been even higher. Here’s a quick breakdown of his standout skills:
1. **Elite Ball Skills**: Morrison’s ability to track and intercept passes was exceptional, often anticipating the quarterback’s moves for key turnovers.
2. **High-Level Coverage**: Whether in man or zone coverage, Morrison excelled with sticky coverage, quick footwork, and a smooth backpedal.
3. **Versatility**: He could cover a wide range of receiving threats, adapting to different receivers and defensive schemes.
4. **Athleticism**: His combination of speed, agility, and recovery speed made him difficult to beat and allowed him to close on passes quickly.
5. **Intelligence & Leadership**: Morrison displayed high football IQ, reading offensive plays and effectively communicating with teammates, even at a young age.
6. **Injury Impact**: While an injury limited his season, his past performances proved his potential, and teams were confident in his recovery.
Overall, had Morrison stayed healthy, he would likely have been a top-10 pick and the #1 cornerback prospect in a deep draft class. His skills, intelligence, and athleticism position him as an elite prospect with a high ceiling.

Absolutely stoked
I’m a massive ND fan, moreso than the bucs
He’s been our day one lock down corner since freshman year
He’ll heal up and lock down #1s
April 25th, 2025 at 8:49 pm
He will staet in 2nd game when Dean goes down
April 25th, 2025 at 8:50 pm
Ball Hawk. Stop crying and trust in JL. You’re not an elite talent scout
April 25th, 2025 at 8:50 pm
Character matters.
April 25th, 2025 at 8:50 pm
The major difference in this guy over Dean is that he actually makes INTERCEPTIONS.
When was Dean’s last interception, 2010?
April 25th, 2025 at 8:51 pm
I guess between him and Dean hurt we will combine for 1 starting CB between the two. Should have taken Amos. Bucs love to take CB that are injury prone see Carlton Davis and Jamal Dean.
April 25th, 2025 at 8:51 pm
Love the pick. The clock didn’t get down past 9:30. Love it.
April 25th, 2025 at 8:51 pm
Not yet.
But if we draft another CB, Jamel might want to start worrying a bit.
April 25th, 2025 at 8:52 pm
Wow, tremendous upside but the hip thing is a little troublesome. I am sure the Bucs did their due diligence with this guy and must be satisfied he’s not another Jamel Dean having trouble staying healthy. Who said a players most important ability is availability?
April 25th, 2025 at 8:55 pm
Dean should be able to heal up without so much pressure to fet back on tge field. Strategically a good choice imo. Elite upside. Time to develop.
I agree with Josh just not as enthusiastically
April 25th, 2025 at 8:56 pm
I’d say Jamel Dean should be worried, but more next year than this year. Bucs traded CD3 after McCollum’s rookie season, not before.
April 25th, 2025 at 8:56 pm
Has an nfl pedigree, high character and IQ, shutdown Marvin Harrison jr…. Not bad for a sit and pick. Definitely think it’s bpa all draft baby!
April 25th, 2025 at 8:57 pm
THIS IS COOL… CHECK THIS OUT…
If you search X for “Benjamin Morrison” you’ll see multiple posts with video that Morrison held a private workout 5 days ago for about 20 NFL Scouts – I assume the Bucs were there.
He took it into his own hands to do a little workout a few days before the draft to show scouts he is healthy and that he can move just fine again.
Go search for it.
April 25th, 2025 at 8:58 pm
You guys know that you need more than 2 corners, right?
April 25th, 2025 at 8:58 pm
I think Jason is starting to read his own hype. I loved some of his last drafts, but so far this draft is worse than taking a kicker in the second round.

You’re right Rod – stupid Bucs should have drafted 2 with that pick.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:01 pm
Another DB please 2 surgeries and the kid is barely 21 someone has to replace him and Dean when they both go down
April 25th, 2025 at 9:01 pm
he has something in common with dean no hips
April 25th, 2025 at 9:01 pm
Not to be debbie downer but besides the hip surgery he had shoulder surgery in 2024 also. Must have a hell of an upside.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:01 pm
Yeah, Brian. You’re definitely a better GM than Licht.
Keyboard Clown.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:04 pm
I feel like ‘can’t stay on the field’ is pretty unfair to Benjamin. He doesn’t appear to have had chronic issues the way Dean has the last few years. He only missed one game out of 26 2023 and 2022. One freak injury shouldn’t be confused with multiple years of missing a third of the season, IMO.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:05 pm
Dean ain’t going anywhere
April 25th, 2025 at 9:05 pm
Trask to the future…JD had an interception last season 😊
April 25th, 2025 at 9:06 pm
In his first two seasons he produced which is the most important stat imo. If you play a violent sport you are going to get injured.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:07 pm
Dean will be replaced as the full time starter as soon as he suffers his first injury, which will probably be in the 2nd half of week one. Morrison is the permanent starter from that point on.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:07 pm
Todd Bowles and Benjamin Morrison’s dad, Darryl Morrision, were teammates on the Washington Redskins back in 1993
April 25th, 2025 at 9:08 pm
Jamel Dean can get injured eating an ice cream cone. Let’s hope this guy is not the same dude.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:08 pm
But I do accept your concern. JD, when healthy, can play man effectively. He just doesn’t get many pics.

You’re obviously a tard.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:11 pm
Obviously don’t love the injury history… we’ve taken DBs with injury histories several times already and every time they have continued to get injured.
I know this kid has a lot of talent though. So the question is- are the Bucs just hoping he stays healthy, or do they truly believe his hip issues are behind him?
April 25th, 2025 at 9:12 pm
Thank you, UsfBucs. Exactly! When you play at a high level consistently and give 100% effort, injuries are inevitable. Benjamin Morrison missed only one game in three years and had an injury last season—hopefully, he has recovered. His workout 5 or so days ago seemed to show that. However, it’s worth noting that he wouldn’t have been in a position to be picked if he hadn’t gotten injured, so it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise, much like how Gronk’s injury history worked out for the Patriots back in the day.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:12 pm
Todd played with his daddy in Washington so he knows this kid on some level
April 25th, 2025 at 9:12 pm
The Bucs just added a technician at corner in Benjamin Morrison.
Morrison’s 91st percentile IGA Score® reflects the kind of In-Game Athleticism™ that shows up on tape — sticky coverage, top-end game speed, and disciplined footwork.
📊 IGA Score®: 90.9 (91st percentile)
Ball skills, burst, and IQ make him a tough matchup for any WR.

“Marques Says:

This i good insight. I bet this caused the Bucs scouts to follow him closer than the average (no pun intended) Joe
April 25th, 2025 at 9:13 pm
So Mike Green is not good enough for us but good enough for the Ravens…continually one of the best defenses in the NFL…hummm
April 25th, 2025 at 9:14 pm
Bucs need Dean. Simple as that.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:16 pm
I trust Jason Licht
April 25th, 2025 at 9:17 pm
Keep Dean but one more corner, please. OSU’s Denzel Burke is a four year starter I think who can play right away. Fourth round…
April 25th, 2025 at 9:17 pm
would amos have been the better pick ?
April 25th, 2025 at 9:20 pm
Putting this pick in the proper contex- With all of the blitzing we do, I bet he has more sacks than JTS!
April 25th, 2025 at 9:21 pm
So we’ll have someone to fill in when Dean goes down and vice versa with zion on the other side. Three roster spots for two spots. Terrible draft.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:21 pm
Wouldn’t call him injury prone. Yes Dean should be worried.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:23 pm
I want to know what his 40 time is post surgery.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:24 pm
“The human seatbelt!” Just watched some highlights and was really surprised by the comments of the broadcasters like “having career day, 3rd interception of the game, considered by many to the the best corners in the nation”, etc. Dude can flat ball if he is healthy and can stay that way.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:24 pm
I question a lot of things in this world; I do not question how this team drafts it’s playmakers for tomorrow. Only a fool does
April 25th, 2025 at 9:24 pm
Morrison is a great pick, provided he’s been cleared medically. Bucs clearly have access to all his medical records through an authorization and they feel good about it, so I feel good about it. Kid was a first round talent and would have gone in the 1st round, without this hip injury. It ain’t like the Bucs don’t have doctors who review the medical records, MRI and CT scans. They’re not just pissing in the wind!
April 25th, 2025 at 9:29 pm
After watching the video of the recent workout I feel much better about the pick. Everyone knows he was a very good prospect before the injury.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:30 pm
Dean is clearly the better CB vs McCallum, when he’s on the field. God forbid Joe challenge Bucs darling Zyon. (Read cheaper)
April 25th, 2025 at 9:32 pm
Bucsfan81 —- I accept that you like Amos more but clearly not clear cut.
I think I prefer Morrison.
Morrison is 21 with 9 interceptions in 31 games.
Amos is 23 and has 4 interceptions in 61 games.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:32 pm
Good to have an extra “starter” now need to find a new nickel.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:40 pm
Morrison allowed a 44.1 NFL passer rating for his career while playing 1,546 total snaps in 26 games.
April 25th, 2025 at 9:45 pm
Sigh…….
April 25th, 2025 at 10:15 pm
“Morrison is a superior talent but the guy is always banged up”
WTH??? “always” banged up???
He was hurt 7 games into his Junior year (2024) – had surgery and is fine now… Never hurt seriously or missed games before that. What kind of BS narrative are you pushing here Joseph? Dean gets hurt multiple times every year….
Morrison was easily BPA at #53. First round talent!
April 25th, 2025 at 11:35 pm
Morrison was easily BPA at #53. First round talent!
That’s A Fact!!
April 26th, 2025 at 2:18 am
Labrum surgery can take a year to heal. A shoulder or a hip is a big deal. I wish this fellow a speedy recovery. I think that’s why the Bucs drafted the same position in the third round. Time will tell.
April 26th, 2025 at 5:10 am
Don’t like the injury history.
