Buccaneers Draft Notre Dame Cornerback Benjamin Morrison In Round 2

April 25th, 2025

Well, the Bucs were not focused on health with their second-round pick.

It’s cornerback Benjamin Morrison out of Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish captain had multiple hip issues — and surgery — and only played six games last year.

The big upside for Morrison? Ballhawk! He had nine interceptions in his first two seasons (six as a freshman) plus a 2023 sophomore season of 10 passes defensed.

NFL.com film guru Lance Zierlein summarized Morrison as follows:

Linear outside cornerback whose eye-catching ball production must be balanced out by his inconsistencies in coverage. Morrison would appear to be a natural press corner, but he lacks ideal footwork to mirror and match not only the release but the initial route breaks. He has below-average coverage fluidity in open spaces and appears to be more effective covering the deep ball than shadowing routes on the first two levels. Morrison is more patient from off coverages and takes efficient paths to the throw, so a more zone-oriented scheme could make sense, while helping to minimize areas of concern.

Morrison (6-0, 193 pounds) is not a finished product at 21 years old (just turned in March), but he’s an athletic talent and obviously has the intangibles the Bucs are seeking.

Hell of a pick!!! Now yall can stop crying 😒

  2. WilieG Says:

Seems awful risky for a second round pick.

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Zierlien ain’t a fan. Who cares.

  4. John Ocala Says:

    Wth

  5. Ds Says:

He played Marvin Harrison jr tough

  6. SlyPirate Says:

Mike Green out of Marshall had β€œbad interviews β€œ? Seems more like absolute train wreck interviews.

  7. Lewi Says:

    I’m so stoked

He was our #1 lock down corner since freshman year

He traveled with other teams #1 and locked them all up

Would of helped MASSIVELY against Ohio state in the natty

  8. Les Says:

    Get healthy !

  9. Kieran Says:

Mike Green must have a some bad heat on him to not be selected

  10. Les Says:

Said if not hurt could be gone already at a higher pick.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Now…trade up for Green.

  12. JReel Buc Says:

Hope he stays healthy Dean and him will build a great relationship with the athletic trainers

  13. infomeplease Says:

I hope he can stay on the field! Seems the Buc’s have enough guys already that don’t dress on game day! I’!! give him the benefit of doubt until he proves me wrong! Could be a very valuable depth piece if he can stay healthy! Next up…ILB?

  14. Ryan Says:

So we let Davis go because of injury history….Dean has a terrible injury history….We draft a WR4 with our first pick and a injury prone kid with our second? Please pass me whatever you’re smoking. I am too sober for this nonsense

  15. DirtyBucs Says:

Depth piece? 2nd round picks are starters.

  16. ECBucs Says:

If y’all are mad about Dean missing time with injuries… oh boy. Plus the hip surgery? Watched teams trade up for Scourton, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, etc like we should have but no let’s let them go to other nfc players

  17. Josh Says:

Mike Green is facing SA allegations, which appear to be affecting his draft stock, whether true or not, despite his evident talent.”

  18. Famu_Rattler Says:

What are the strengths of Benjamin Morrison?
The Fighting Irish star has exceptional hands and ball skills and can locate and highpoint the football even while he is in phase down the field, a trait many corners lack. In man coverage, Morrison excels at being patient off the line and playing bump and run. He can stay in phase and connected throughout the route.Feb 24, 2025

this looks like a good pick for our defense…. Okay JL, TB lets keep drafting for the Defense. Go Bucs.

  19. gotbbucs Says:

Now find a way to get Andrew Mukuba in the 3rd and I’ll forgive that stupidity that happened in the 1st.

  20. Oxycondomns Says:

dont you need your hips? bo knows

  21. Ted Says:

Multiple hip injuries and surgeries……..ok right

  22. Marine Buc Says:

    I like the pick.

It’s a bit risky due to the injury history but this guy would be a high 1st round pick if he was healthy last season…

I had a feeling our GM would pick a CB in round #2 and I believe he picked the BPA.

  23. BucsfaninOregon Says:

I can’t wait for what happened to Mike Green to make him fall so far. So far my draft grade = C for Bucs.

  24. DBS Says:

Nobody in the front office cares if anyone forgives them. Bunch of crybabies. None of these players are guaranteed to make it. College is not the NFL. And the reviews are nothing. What they do now is what counts on an NFL field.

  25. ThunderDan Says:

    I get wanting D in round 1.
But get a grip, Egbuka will be a high level starter for 15 years.

  26. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Todd played with his daddy in Washington so he knows this kid

  27. Lightningvinny Says:

JL has earned the benefit of the doubt from me,,, So far I like both picks

  28. FilthyAnimal Says:

Excellent pick as long as the hip injury is no concern.

  29. JReel Buc Says:

Love the WR i think they could of gotten WR insurance in round 2 if that was a concern …good luck to another often injured CB in 2nd round…. this draft appears messy from a fans perspective.

  30. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I’m sure the Bucs checked out the medicals on Morrison. Very sound 2nd round pick.

  31. Itzok Says:

Is he going to grow 4 inches and gain 60 pounds so he can rush the passer. Love injured players

  32. Bucs Guy Says:

    Like the pick.

Mukuba, Watts or Winston Jr at Safety or Reed later.
Bassa, Paul Jr or Carter at ILB. Darius Alexander at DT.
Bucs will not pick an Edge again.

  33. Steve A Says:

So a zone corner? ……paired with a weak pass rush D line…..makes all the sense in the world…..SMH

  34. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Love the pick.

  35. Preston Says:

Posting these stats here too for visibility.

Benjamin Morrison vs Top WRs in college:

vs Marvin Harrison jr – 3 catches for 32 yards

vs Brenden Rice – 2 catches for 18 yards

vs Jordan Addison – 3 catches for 45 yards

vs Josh Downs – 5 catches for 32 yards

vs Zay Flowers – 3 catches for 46 yards

vs Marvin Harrison jr – 5 catches for 56 yards

vs Puka nacua – 0 catches for 0 yards

  36. Crickett Baker Says:

It just could be that the surgery fixed it.

  37. Ds Says:

Morrison was clamping top WRs let’s go

  38. Delson Says:

I called it 1st 2 rounds wr and cb. Lb dline s n oline. Would love 4 us 2 double dip on mlb. I want us 2 grab tez Johnson but I doubt it now. McMillan still has potential yet tez Johnson has that big playmaker ability

  39. DrunkInYbor Says:

Funny. Film people I trust said. Hes easily a 1st round talent in the 10-20s range but hip injuries and missing his last 10 games in college would drop him to the 40 to 50 range.

  40. DrunkInYbor Says:

Also stats don’t lie. So if Zierlien is watching him cover routes where the ball isn’t thrown his way that is stupid. I don’t see any receivers who lit him up at all.

  41. Sapp 2 Fundamentally Sound Says:

    Exactly Right
The 2nd highest ranked CB for the last year and a half & because of injury dropped.
Of course the Bucs did Extensive Research into his medical evaluation & felt comfortable he was worth the risk.
BPA @ huge position of Need!
    Go BUCS!

  42. Capt.Tim Says:

Well, if we are lucky, Dean and Morrison will take turns being on IR
Worse case- Dean will finally have someone to replace Davis with him in the hot tub.

    Wow, that is impressive.

Reading about him leading up the draft, he seems like a really safe pick – injury was the only reason he feel out of the 1st.

  44. Aqualung Says:

Todd will use this guy as a nose tackle and drop Vita into the flat. No one will expect it, what geniuses do.
