Emeka Egbuka Hopes Bucs Don’t Ignore Other Buckeyes

Wants more Buckeyes on Bucs roster.
Joe remembers when Richie McKay first took over the Bucs. It was during the heyday of Florida college football. The national championship ran through the Sunshine State in the 1990s.
With three state powerhouse schools, McKay said he couldn’t understand why the Bucs had previously all but ignored drafting players from Florida, Florida State or Miami.
Then, McKay drafted Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, and two years later, Warrick Dunn. And away the Bucs went to dominate the next 8-10 years.
Bucs first-round pick Emeka Egbuka had a sidebar with the local pen and mic club this afternoon and mentioned how he was told he was the first Ohio State player to be drafted by the Bucs in 11 years.
He hopes he isn’t the last. This weekend, in particular.
The Buckeyes, of course, just won the national championship in January, beating Tennessee, Texas and Notre Dame to hoist the championship trophy.
Now that’s smart. Clearly, Ohio State is loaded. So why not draft a guy who knows how to win? It worked for the Bucs with McKay. It worked for the Bucs earlier this decade with Tom Brady and Bruce Arians. Why not now?
The third day of the draft is often a crapshoot. Why not draft a national champion after the third round?
Also interesting is that Egbuka was asked about two of the better defensive backs he faced while at Ohio State. He mentioned Joey Porter (Penn State), who is now with the Steelers and raved about Will Johnson of Michigan.
Egbuka did acknowledge that Porter was “a little handsy.”

Jack Sawyer would be okay! Lathon Random, too. Denzel Burke is underrated. A four year starter.
