The Bucs & The ChatGPT Mock Draft

April 16th, 2025

“Joel, is it true you replaced Spytek with a robot?”

Joe wishes no ill will on the endless human mock draft robots out there.

You know the ones; the guys currently publishing their 7th or 9th iteration of Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Or, there’s Joe’s favorite mockers to mock, the ones that pump out multiple team-specific, 7-round mock drafts. Just stop it. Do it once after Week 1o of free agency and once a week before the draft and that’s it. Anything more is lunacy.

So Joe was very pleased to read the new USA Today mock draft presented by artificial intelligence. After all, isn’t that what most mock drafts are? Phony intelligence?

Joe studied the AI model that can compile endless pre-draft data in the time it takes Joe to inhale a Hooters buffalo shrimp. It pounded the invisible keyboard for an edge rusher. Smart computer!

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Shemar Stewart, Edge, Texas A&M

After a long stretch of primarily offensive players, ChatGPT has flipped the script with a long run of only defensive players. This time it’s another edge rusher, Stewart, going to Tampa Bay with the 19th overall pick.

Stewart was the fifth edge rusher off the AI board after a run on wide receivers. It seems advanced science knows the NFL is a pass-first league.

Stewart looks like a video-game character at 6-5, 267 pounds with crazy athletic ability. He’s raw after a 4 1/2-sack college career.

Joe would pass, or at least be very nervous based on the Bucs’ history of drafting and developing edge rushers.

  1. Ds Says:

He looks the part but very low production

  2. Tim Says:

NO WAY. So we’d be replacing JTS who couldn’t finish with a guy with 1.5 sacks each of his college seasons? Hell to the no!!

  3. Scott Says:

He sounds like a Licht guy. All measurables no production. Ranked no 93 in grade for the year by the analytics guys. Give me someone near the top.

  4. Scott Says:

One positive is he was an elite run defender and you can’t ignore the 10 out of 10 RAS score whatever that means. If he fell to us there may be a reason.

  5. Marine Buc Says:

    S. Stewart? Not at pick #19.

If there is a “run” on Edge Rushers and WRs then there will be plenty of solid IDLs available at pick #19.

Then we pick the best CB at pick #53 and the best ILB with pick #84.

Best Safety or WR with picks #121 and #158 and we are all set…

  6. FilthyAnimal Says:

    Eff ChatGPT.

  7. BayouBullet Says:

4 and a half sacks… In his college career !!!!! Well at least he didn’t just have shoulder surgery. Can I get a job as a professional mocker… Apparently the bar is very low.

  8. Bucs Guy Says:

    Big time pass on him.
    Production > Potential

  9. BucsfaninOregon Says:

    Not at #19. No way!

  10. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

    The new JTS.

  11. DrunkInYbor Says:

    Pass

  12. KABucs Says:

Marine Buc… I like your thinking. I’d want one of those six picks of ours to be for an edge rusher, though, still.

  13. geno711 Says:

That draft is garbage because it was made by a machine pretending to be a human — and a human pretending that machine knows what it’s doing.

    It’s not a mock draft — it’s a mockery of logic.

  14. Marine Buc Says:

    @ KA

I was hoping we could be set at OLB at least for 2025…

    We signed Reddick.

    Re-signed Nelson.

Drafted Braswell in round #2 last year.

Diaby is signed until after the 2026 season.

We have Watts and Rameriz in reserve…

I would be fine if our GM picks another Edge at pick #19 but I don’t believe we should be reaching for one and drafting Stewart at pick #19 seems like a big reach to me…

  15. Bucsfan Says:

If Bucs stay at 19-and that is a big if-Ezeirauku or Emmanwori or Barron can step in and contribute in regular season game 1 , which is necessary. Speculative reaches based on limited data we have had enough of-see JTS or Logan Hall for example, although Hall may become a serviceable contributor , but average at best. We need a proven impact player on defense with a high ceiling.

  16. White Tiger Says:

    NO. Just NO!

Shemar Stewart is a big man standing in a JTS Halloween costume.

  17. GoneGator Says:

With all due respect to the Joe’s it seems A LOT of the content here at JBF’s has been your take on what the mock drafts (drafters) have put out…. For a little while. 🤷🏼

You slam the people doing them and then make an article from their content, or your opinion of it. Not saying that’s wrong or that these things have value – other than giving us something to yap about – but you do print A LOT of their content. So yeah, they’re ridiculous after awhile but…..

I’m sure we’ll all be glad when the friggin draft is over and we know who our rookies are going to be 👍🏼

  18. Joe in Michigan Says:

This guy might be the next Kyle Moore! Does anyone else remember Kyle Moore, the Bucs “pass rusher” who got zero sacks for the Bucs?

  19. Aqualung Says:

Obviously AI has a long way to go. Jason isn’t in any jeopardy of losing his job to the Bots.

  20. Bushlover Says:

Trey Hendrickson for this year’s 2nd and next year’s 4th.

    Then pay the man.

    Proven production.

And ME 13’s time is running out. Gotta push the chips in.

  21. It's Corn Says:

sigh… people put so much belief in AI’s ability, because they want magic. Fantasy fulfillment meets commercial hype.
Let’s see just how well it does (or how it did last year). If it gets 0 out of 224, can we just accept that it can’t figure this stuff out? (and don’t say YET)

  22. B Says:

What’s the big deal? The Brown’s have been using Magic 8 Ball technology to draft for years.

  23. David Says:

4.5 sacks in college career???? LOL PASS FAST. never draft someone who did not produce in college

  24. David Says:

It will be CB /S or ILB

  25. heyjude Says:

It’s a no. Going through the article, it could be hit and miss on a few other teams too.

  26. Proudbucsfan Says:

I downloaded GROK3 a few weeks back and asked it to give me a mock draft and it had the Bucs staying put picking at #19 and the pick was Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant. I’m ok with that, he’s a damn good player.

  27. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Stewart will go in 2nd rd

  28. garro Says:

    Um… You are joking ….Right?

    Go Bucs!

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So…I don’t think he should be our first round pick…but…I would definitely take him in the second.

People are looking at his sack totals, which are not great…but watching him in the highlights, I see a guy who consistently knows where the ball is, have good moves, a strong grip for tackling, and a high motor.

I get that we need a sack specialist…but I would love to end up with this kid on the team sometime after the first.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

On the topic of mock drafts…I used to do one each year and posted it here for fun. Just one, right before the draft. And it only showed who the Bucs picked in each round.

I am of the strong belief that one is plenty, and if you are good enough and lucky enough, you’ll get a couple right.

I had a couple where I nailed around 3 picks, but I had at least 1-2 where I got none right. Was fun to do though.

But there ‘pro’ mockers do so many so that they can cover every possibility…and they can then say later “I had them picking…” in my own mock draft, so I saw it coming.

Mock drafts get hits…so I guess it is what it is.

  31. Zman Says:

Not a fan of Stewart. Boom or bust. I like Scoruton is better.

  32. Anyhony Says:

AI is only as good as the information it’s been given.
