Everything Is Bigger In Texas

Staying true to the defensive tackle class, here’s another 5-star that would look good in pewter and red.

DeMarvin Leal from Texas A&M stands 6-4, 290 pounds and can play all positions on the defensive line, including edge. Bucs general manager Jason Licht loves versatile players, and Leal would be the perfect balance of pass rusher and run stopper that could really grow under this regime.

A three-year Aggies starter, he totaled 58 tackles and 8 1/2 sacks his junior year. Labeled as a can’t-miss product recruited by Jimbo Fisher, Leal showed he belonged as a freshman and he should be there for the Bucs at No. 27 overall or quite possibly if they trade down from there.

One of Ira Kaufman’s big hiccups with first-round picks is a perceived lack of contribution on a championship team, Ira should listen to Best In Class.

Unless there is a trade up, no one projected in the top to 3/4 half of the draft are a consideration.

  2. Tim Says:

This guy is versatile. He’s got the speed in the middle they want, plus he can line up outside. Plus, there are a few guys every year that drop, always good to keep an eye out for those value picks

  3. BUCman Says:

Everything I’ve read about Leal said there was great expectations for him but he has been a mild disappointment. If your looking for someone at that size and style of player Logan Hall out of Houston may be better. Neither one should be a round 1 consideration however. Maybe with the 60th pick at the end of the second round. In a perfect world Devante Wyatt falls in our laps at 27. Unfortunately this is not a good year for interior DL.

  4. BelleGladeBuc Says:

He is a great ball player and has great potential.

He is very versatile as he plays DT and DE. He’s got a good get off, high motor, good hand fighting.

My huge worry with him is that he needs to get stronger and add more muscle for the NFL.

That means like many great DT, his first year in the NFL will not be his best.

We need to get guys that help our team and TB12 immediately.

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Although Bowles could get a defensive guy since he is a first year head couch in Tampa…BA is still on staff and we lost two quality offensive linemen…and we have Brady under center.

This pick will more likely go on OL.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a second OL at some point.

  6. SOEbuc Says:

Could easily trade down. Deep draft minus QB.

  7. sasquatch Says:

This guy isn’t a 1st rounder from what I’m reading.

  8. Pewter Power Says:

Top ten he’ll be gone, victim of success the Bucs are being duplicated but not being given the credit for it like our 202 Bucs were.

  9. David Says:

    Buck Banzai

They lost two guards. Right guard has been upgraded. Left guard is probably a slight downgrade but we really don’t know yet. They have Hainsey backing up guards and center now. There’s no doubt in my mind they will draft another lineman but I highly doubt it’ll be in the first round.

  10. Buczilla Says:

I’d take this dude with our first pick in a heartbeat. Ira also needs to do a a much better job with the horrible receiver rankings that he comes out with every year. He’s still the best, but he falls woefully short on that one every single year. 😜

  11. Bruce Blahak Says:

Got to be a guard or DL with that #1 pick. McBride at #1 would fill a need to eventually replace gronk/brate. Good spot to grab him or trade down if no great talent drops to 27.

  12. WhatTheBuc Says:

This guy is not likely to go in the 1st. I’d draft Arnold Ebiketie if he’s there. This draft is actually pretty good for all DL positions. There will likely be good options available to us at 60. Winfrey is a good 3 tech and Bonitto is a twitched up pass rusher that may be there.

  13. Kalind Says:

I think id rather have Boye Mafe or trade back a bit (even if it’s a bad deal) and take Travis Jones. Enagbare has my attention too as a bigger edge rusher. The. Later, (assuming a trade netted a 5 or 6) take this guys Noah from Idaho or Maquan McCall from Kentucky. Them dudes make Vita look like a shrimp.

  14. Bucs Guy Says:

Bucs need DE and DT. Stinnie and Hainsey will fight it out in training camp for LG. If the Bucs don’t trade back, they will go DE, DT and TE with their first 3 picks. RB, CB, S and OL are all 4th rd options. Maybe one of these and P in the 7th.

2023 priorities after QB are LT (Smith not resigned), LB (LVD replacement), OL (Depth unless Stinnie becomes starter), TE (Brate not resigned) and possibly CB/S (if Bucs don’t re-sign all their current group), DT (need depth) and RB (depth). Needless to say if TB12 plays again, who the Bucs draft this year and next year’s FA situation will impact next years draft.

  15. tampabayallday Says:

    EZ trade down option.

  16. 1#bucsfan Says:

So many needs on the defense. Lvd replacement, no suh or jpp yet even tho jpp wasn’t that effective last year but we need a replacement JTS has shown flashes but needs more work. Need a back up for Shaq when he comes out for breather. And let’s not get started about our DBs. They all got hurt at some point last year we need back ups or some upgrades. Love Winfield but who backs him up? Logan is good but again who backs him up? SMB n dean played great during the super bowl run but since I’m not sold on them they need competition n they need it bad. I believe this will be a defensive draft for us. But we still need TE n some new bodies on the Oline. Go get em light

  17. Rob Says:

Trade down and get other pics. Quality players in rounds 2-5. They should have drafted the best player available last year instead of trying to draft depth.

  18. orlbucfan Says:

Licht has proved himself with both UDFAs and lower round picks. But, we desperately need a DL. Hope this dude is still on the board when Tampa Bay’s name is called in the first round.

  19. austin Says:

Trade every pick to trade up and get Davis and then get Leal. Those can be our only two picks in the draft. Can you imagine the dominance of that D-Line?? Shaq, Vea, Davis, Leal.. I mean come on

  20. Posey99 Says:

    Travis Jones or Zion Johnson

  21. BUCman Says:

Trading every pick to trade up for Davis is a ridiculous idea. First off, Davis is a run stuffing nose tackle which we already have in Vita Vea. What they need is a DT that can provide interior pass rush along with run stopping ability. That’s not Davis. His fast 40 is very misleading. He will provide zero pass rush. Secondly, they have several holes to fill at TE, RB, DL, & in the secondary. They are already without a 5th & 6th round pick so they need all their picks if not more to fill them. Unless the perfect person falls to them at 27 they would be better served trading back and picking up an extra 3rd round pick.

  22. SlyPirate Says:

    WIDE RECEIVERS and OFFENSIVE TACKLES

So many teams need WR and OT. There’s a lot of top end talent at those positions. You’ll see a lot competition for WRs and OT in R1 and R2.

DT and RB always fall. As a result, some of the top DL and RB will fall to the Bucs.

DeMarvin Leal is the type of player that will fall to the Bucs in Round 3.

  23. ncbucsfan Says:

Yeah, Leal will definitely fall!!! No need to even consider him early.

  24. MadMax Says:

Yeah he’s pretty good….trade down though. I like Ebiketie too. But if Suh doesnt come back then those are some big shoes to fill….him and Marpet. Thats why Im going with DT/DE and LG for our first two picks and then CB and P

    Logan Hall
    Ed Ingram
Alontae Taylor (hes climbing up the draft boards and we’ll have to trade back into the 2nd for him)
    Matt Araiza

  25. kaimaru Says:

“He’ll probably go in the second,” said a director of player personnel. “I love his ability to rush the passer, and he’s instinctive versus the run. But I have my struggles with him. I think he’s going to have issues early on playing the run inside. And he has sort of a bad body. Feels like more of a package guy early on.”

“I don’t see a high first-rounder with Leal,” said a national scout. “He’s not powerful or sudden, but he’s agile and fluid. He will struggle inside.”
