“I’m Not Saying I’m Bill Belichick. But …”

May 13th, 2010

Raheem The Dream obviously has done his share of self analysis since the 2009 season ended. That’s the only way “to be your best self,” as he likes to say.

And apparently this self-study featured enough deep thought — seemingly sans research — for him to inexplicably compare his high-pressure situation in Tampa with that of Bill Belichick coaching the Browns in the 1990s.

For some reason, Raheem The Dream thinks Belichick didn’t have enough time to blossom in Cleveland and fans there wish he was given more time.

Now, forgetting the fact that the Browns were bailing to Baltimore and then canned Belichick, the Patriots head coach had five years in Cleveland that featured a losing record, a playoff win and a 5-11 final season. That wasn’t enough time?

Just how much time does Raheem The Dream think he needs in Tampa?

Raheem The Dream gave his Belichick analogy during a recent radio interview on 1010 AM with J.P. Peterson, who hosts a new TV sports magazine show on CW44 every Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

On the radio, Peterson asked the head coach about the possibility of being replaced by Bill Cowher. Here’s Raheem The Dream’s unedited response (beware of major Raheem ramble):

“The best part about it is how I look at it is this. You know, the rumors, the whatever the case may be, the believing in whatever people want you to believe. Everybody should want this job. We’re in Tampa. It’s the best job in football. The other thing about it is this, is when we get here, I’m sure the Cleveland Browns right now wish they would have gave Bill Belichick a longer time. I’m not saying I’m Bill Belichick. But what I’m saying is you got to have time to implement your plan, which he got at New England. And now he’s implemented it and now he’s a genius. And I’m not saying I’m a genius. I’m not saying I’m any of those things. But let’s go out and execute. Let’s do what we got to do.”

Joe suspects new Bucs uber media czar Jonathan Grella is now on Page 2 of a growing list counseling points for Raheem The Dream. Misguidedly comparing yourself to a Hall of Fame coach is never a good thing.

While Joe hopes Raheem The Dream has moved on from his ridiculious Dungy-era analogies, this won’t do, either.

No matter how much time Raheem The Dream thinks he should have, or how patient Team Glazer appears, Joe suspects Raheem The Dream knows very well that he’s in an improve-or-be-fired situation for the rest of his time in Tampa.

The sad part is that if he impoves to 6-10 all the kool-aid drinkers will deem him a genius. Lest they forget that a “real” head coach, who brought home the Trophy no less, was fired after going 9-7. I still predict a 4-12 year for the Bucs this year. Too many rookies. Unqualified Coaches.

  2. Radio Mushmouth Says:

I’m not saying Rah is Leeman Bennett , but…..

  3. Raheem Morris Says:

You can put a cat in the oven… but that don’t make it a biscuit.

  4. Eric Says:

Time to implement his plan in New England?

They won the Super Bowl his second year! And three Super Bowls in his first four years as head coach!

What the hell is this man talking about?

  5. epps Says:

Of course everyone will hate on raheem/radio w.e u wna call him.. but if you didnt see the teams improvement in all around football at the end of the year than u just dont know football. Yeah he is a raw head coach im sure anyone who moved to head coach position overnight and never had experience at the job wld have trouble especially with a team with so many holes and owners who arent spending money like other teams.. Give the guy a break let this season pan out and than we can talk

  6. thomas Says:

This is so absurd, and sad really, that even I feel too bad for him to blast him for this ramble.

Sadly, he is clearly dumber than we all thought. Just once, once, I want him to say something where I respond with – “that makes sense.”

I have now lost all hope.

  7. Louie Says:

Yea, they improved soooo much that they lost at home to Atlanta in the last game. The improvement argument would be valid if they had won that game.

If The Dream thinks he’s going to get 5+ years to win, he’s on crack. Of course, maybe that’s part of “the plan”. Nobody in the organization is saying how long this re-building process is suppose to take.

  8. Philip Says:

Hard to believe that came out of Raheem’s mouth. It’s very sad that he’d have this BS swirling around in his head. …He was only in high school when Belichick coached the Browns, so maybe he was smoking something and got confused. The Bucs should just ban him from interviews and I really think everythng would be OK

  9. Eric Says:

The reason the Dream sounds less than lucid (charatible characterization), aside from not being lucid in general, is that he has had little to do with devising the “plan”, which is the work of the Glazer boys. His job is to nod his head, follow their orders, and do his best.

Thus, when he tries to defend the “plan” he fails miserably.

I feel bad for the dude. But, the reality is he is an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill.

Shame on the Glazer boys for putting the young man in this kind of position. Im sure they will have little problem putting his head on a platter next to Mr. Chucky, Dungy, and Wyche. Of course they will never turn a critical eye toward themselves.

  10. Gary Says:

Since we had 3 wins this year, I say he has to leave if he doesnt get atleast 7 wins this time. The schedule is worth atleast 1 win, freemans improvement another, continuity on the coaching staff another, a good d-line (WRs) another. Thats 7. No way around it, he has to get to 7 in my mind.

This might be wishfull thinking, but I think 7 is more than fair to Raheem and attainable if we truly improve.

  11. RahDomDaBest Says:

Just Raheem THINKING he is Belicheat is an abortion. Then he went off and said it.

Maybe Bill Belicheat learned something when he got canned from the Browns. Maybe then he re-evalutaed himself, and moving forward to a different situation, and meeting that genius mastermind statitician professor help Bill analyze and play call much better. Bill also had streaming video tape of the other team sent directly to his coordinators.

  12. Jonny Says:

@tampa2 “The sad part is that if he impoves to 6-10 all the kool-aid drinkers will deem him a genius. Lest they forget that a “real” head coach, who brought home the Trophy no less, was fired after going 9-7. I still predict a 4-12 year for the Bucs this year. Too many rookies. Unqualified Coaches.”

Raheem -Dungy/BB is a ridiculous comparison. Because those guys are proven and Raheem is not. But that does not mean he cannot be one.

The “real” head coach? He was not fired for going 9-7 Mr. Gruden’s Butt Kisser, he was fired because of the team’s downfall after the Superbowl. Just because you win one superbowl does not mean you should not win another or be competitive. Even you “real” Head Coach had 4-12 seasons here in Tampa.

So just STFU about Gruden and stop comparing his tenure to Rah’s. 7 years vs 1 year is not a fair comparison.

  13. RahDomDaBest Says:

As far as Raheem… the Bucs couldn’t have picked a more horrible head coach. They should just get someone with experience after this season… on principle.

7 wins? How do they get the 1st four? Assuming that we are going to win those 4 allegedly easy games is your first mistake.

  14. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Belicheck has Tom Brady in New England. So now he is “genius”. In Cleveland, he was a mere mortal. Last Years Patriots were far from the dominant team from years past. If they don’t get to the playoffs this year, I can imagine New England Fans calling for his head. The same with Raheem. This is a win now league, fans pay for a winning team. Like Raheem says , competition is a fact of life for any NFL Person, including him!

  15. Dave Says:

So many of you come down so hard on Raheem and I do not understand why. Is it because we would have been better of with Gruden plugging holes with average vets, drafting crap, having anew QB every 1.5 years, and burning bridges everywhere he went??
Or is it because you wanted a big “splash” name for the job?
How many of those big “splash” name hirings ever work out? Ever look at that?

Anyway, I think the “plan” is coming along pretty decent. They have a QB of the future, a bunch of budding young stars on defense and offense, and a coach who the players love and play for.

So he rambles in sentence fragments constantly, who cares. The guys mind seems to be going a mile a minute and he is optimistic, that is the reason.
Most of you would rather sit there and sulk and be angry at life and nitpick about word choice and sentence structure.

    JOE even falls into that.
    Seriously?

You read that and felt he was comparing himself to Bill B? I did not. He was simply pointing out, in a rambling way, that rebuilding takes time and patience and don’t you think Cleveland wished they had that with Bill B?

Anyway, I for one, see this team winning 6-7 games next year and being in playoff contention the year after.
That would be a 3 year plan of building through the draft. exactly what they have said they are doing for 2 years.

  16. Chargedcbh Says:

I get what he is saying, if Joe didn’t put (beware of major Raheem ramble): you guys wouldn’t know what to think.
Why don’t you THINK for yourselfs! Next time JOE post comments WITHOUT tyring to be funny or adding your own personal comment.

  17. Dave Says:

HEY JOHNNY: Didn’t Gruden have a 4 win season too?

  18. admin Says:

    Joe here,

Chargedcbh – Please, who wants to read this site without Joe’s personal comment. …This isn’t JohnDoeBucsFan.com

  19. admin Says:

    Joe here,

Dave – These are the words of the head coach and a peek into his mindset. They are NOT Joe’s words or nitpicking. Think what you like, of course. …Joe understands where Raheem was going, but how one gets there can say a lot about a person. ….And trust Joe, he’s not angry at life and is very proud to be a Bucs fan.

  20. adam from ny Says:

belicheat is nothing but a fraud…………and a couple years ago during the playoffs, during post season interviews did you see that huge grotesque herpes sore on his lip??….that was completely disgusting…..not only does he cheat on the field, but most likely is licking dirty pie in his hotel rooms during road games while cheating on his wife….once a cheater always a cheater….across the board of life!!……to hell with billy belicheat……adam from ny

ps his monotone interview are the most ridiculous too……to hell with him and his chicken legged quarterback

  21. adam from ny Says:

The bucs missed the boat when they didn’t hire you as the new PR guy. I would look forward to your first press release.

  24. Louie Says:

Yes, Gruden had a 4-12 season. He also followed it up with a playoff season. So, are you apologists saying The Dream will make the playoffs this season?

  25. Jonny Says:

HEY DAVE: I said the same thing.

I think you have misunderstood the first paragraph of my previous comment as coming from me, its part of a comment from Gruden lover called “tampa 2”.

  26. adam from ny Says:

    hey louie louie:

    gary:

if they go 6-10 he should be gone

i agree 7 wins is a must to show improvement

there is sort of like an unspoken word almost supposedly writing off the first half of last season since they switched defensive schemes about mid-season and canned jags from the get go…..but they certainly dont have that excuse this year…and they apparently received a much easier schedule on paper for now…so i say he must be fired with a double digit losing season….7-9 or better keep him and shoot for 9-7 or 10-6 in 2011 and a possible playoff spot….i know im getting way ahead, but here’s to wishful thinking…ok i feel it coming….time to go take a sh*t…..adam from ny

  28. Dave Says:

    JOE
I was not implying you are “angry at life”, that was intended t be directed at many of the pessimistic posters.

Anyway, I know it is tough going through rebuilding and everything can be second guessed causing pessimism, but I tend to be optimistic.

Ironically it comes from a pessimistic stance. Basically, I gave up hope during the 4 game losing streak a couple years ago to miss the playoffs and became steadfast in my belief that the team needed a complete revamping… careful what you wish for.

It can be aggravating, but overall I find the rebuilding exciting and positive and think they are doing a good job so far. Of course not without setbacks (coordinators) and mistakes (Luke M., Lefty, purging too many vets -Brooks).

Hopefully there are vast improvements this year and next year is a playoff push.

  29. Dave Says:

    ADAM FROM NY

What if they win 6 and never get blown out and lose 3-4 very close games? What if the defense and offense, with all the young players, steadily improve throughout the year? What if the run defense gets better and better as does the pass rush? What if the passing game improves steadily with a bunch of young WRs?

My point is, I think they can VASTLY improve and only win 5-6 games. I would love to see more, however.
I just think putting a set number of wins on “improvement” is very arbitrary and I don’t think it can be quantified that way.

  30. Eric Says:

I think the Dream was saying how sad everyone in Tampa will be if he is let go and then builds his dynasty elsewhere.

Count me in as willing to take that risk!

  31. Dave Says:

ERIC says: “Count me in as willing to take that risk!”

This is exactly what I eman. It isn’t awesome that people like you give the guy a chance? He was thrown into a situation where he and Mark D had to build a team from scratch. Thjey win 3 games and have some bumps in the road IN YEAR ONE of a 3 year project and you are ready to throw him under the bus.

I just don’t get it. If you make a few mistakes at your job this year will you get fired? Hope not.
Especially after, what appears to be a few good drafts and good young talent coming aboard and progress shown in the second half of the year last year.
But it doesn’t matter, some people are going to think whatever they want and hate Raheem as a coach regardless of what transpires in this
    THREE YEAR REBUILDING PROCESS

  32. oar Says:

“….what transpires in this THREE YEAR REBUILDING PROCESS”
Aren’t we three years ahead of schedule? According to Raheem we are, which should put us right in the “finished” process and the playoffs.
But, we will all see in 5 months for sure.

  33. Eric Says:

    @Dave

Actually if I make a mistake at my job things occur far worse than losing football games .

But, that is beside the point.

I disagree with the “building from scratch” conclusion. I disagree with the “build only through the draft” mentatility. I disagree with the refusal to make available trades to greatly enhance the talent.

And as for Raheem, his performance last year, contrary to your assertions, was horrific. The second half seemed a little better only when compared to the total disaster in the first half.

I personally don’t need any more evidence. But if he were to put up some wins and quit bragging before he does anything I may change my opinion.

In other words, shut up and win Raheem.

  34. Louie Says:

Last year was a complete failure. They couldn’t have done any worse not having a head coach at all. The only thing The Dream proved is that he can probably be a decent defensive coordinator — what he was originally hired to do — because the defense did improve somewhat after he took over as DC.

Until The Dream proves otherwise, he is a complete joke as an NFL head coach.

  35. Radio Mushmouth Says:

“So many of you come down so hard on Raheem and I do not understand why. Is it because we would have been better of with Gruden plugging holes with average vets, drafting crap, having anew QB every 1.5 years, and burning bridges everywhere he went??”

    Umm, Yes.

I think 3 Division titles , 1 NFC championship , and 1 Superbowl Championship bears that out , don’t you?

  36. Jonny Says:

    Radio Mushmouth Says:
“Umm, Yes. I think 3 Division titles , 1 NFC championship , and 1 Superbowl Championship bears that out , don’t you?”

1 Superbowl, 2 divisional titles, 3 seasons of suck and two mediocre seasons over a 7 year tenure?

I will happily take a coach that is willing to rebuild the team. I want my team to be ELITE, for that I am ready to take the risk of suck that accompanies with rebuilding. You can happily become a fan of some other team that Gruden will soon start coaching for. Until then, watch Arena Football.

  37. Eric Says:

    “elite”

    HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHHAHHAHA

    LMAO

The man actually used the word “elite”.

  38. warren sappalicious Says:

    DAVE:

i totally get your point and if everything plays out to the way you stated it, then the season would have so many positives in it that it would be hard to can raheem…

however, now im going to go back to the old parcell’s adage “you are only as good as your record”…..so basically even with a positive spin, 5-6 wins really sucks….especially since last year we should have had about 5 or 6 wins with a crap team by making a couple extra field goals or 1 play here or there…..so lets say we should have won 5 last year…and if we win 5 this year i would say that’s not really acceptable….

then you sort of need to factor in the guaranteed fact that even when going through the schedule and penciling in wins and losses, you are going to lose a couple games you thought you should win and you are going to surprise and win a couple you counted the team out in….

so all in all i understand your point, however wins go a long way and if they dont play .500 ball this year or a tad below (7-9), then i think the glazers can him and bring in a elite big name coach to cause some hoopla and hopefully draw the crowds back to ray jay

As a Gruden Butt kisser, how about 3 Division titles , 1 NFC championship , and 1 Superbowl Championship. So, what has your guy done, kool-aid drinker? Just what part of “Elite” & Raheem Morris go together? Hmm? And other than the Superbowl, Gruden won with old guys that he convinced to come play for him after the tight-assed Glazer boys wouldn’t spend any money. How many veteran players do you think Your Idiot could convince to come play here for next to nothing, like Gruden’s vets did? Drink some more kool-aid Jonny Boy. You’re gonna need it when your “Elite” team plays the 1st 8 games with in win. Elite- gotta love it!

LOL @ Eric, nice way to just respond to just one word of my entire post. Are you that much of a loser or are you a semi-literate that cannot comprehend three-four lines?

  41. Eric Says:

Look man, your among friends here, we can tolerate your delusions.

But I strongly suggest you don’t repeat them beyond Joebucsfan.com or they will take you away, farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr away along with the folks who think they are Napoleon.

    “Elite”

I can’t take it……………………I gotta get some water to recover.

  42. TJ Says:

#1 Bill does not talk as much and when he does he has enough rings to back it up. #2 Raheem If anyone has ever noticed at the end of the game tries to french kiss the opposing head coaches ear while Bill gives you the cold stare

  43. Jonny Says:

@tampa2: You call me a Kool-Aid drinker and prove you have no idea what you are talking about.

  44. tampa2 Says:

    @Jonny
The proof is in wins & losses. You will be watching Jon Gruden for many years to come. I doubt Raheem makes it through this year with Tampa Bay. In some small way I feel sorry for Raheem because I think he may have had a future had he come up in the system via defense. No other team is going to call him a head coach, much less hire him as one. You have to remember that Raheem was not “thrown in” to being a head coach. He accepted the job even though he knew nothing about being a head coach. After Tampa fires him, who will hire him, Jonny?

  45. RahDomDaBest Says:

Jonny, you are as delusional as they come.

1 SB, 3 Division titles, 1 NFC Championship…. and you say, “Blah”

Then you are delusional enough to claim that Raheem is building an elite franchise? 3-13. What, did Raheem win the Super Bowl of the draft???

As Herm Edwards always says, “That’s why you play the game!”

But for you to make those outlandish comments when Raheem has proved NOTHING, is the exact definition of delusional.

  46. Jonny Says:

RahDomDaBest, you are one more of those guys that just point out the word “ELITE” I used in a big paragraph. I said I am willing as a Bucs fan to accept the RISK of rebuilding in order for my team to be elite. If Raheem fails, Bucs fail and I am willing to accept that. If he succeeds, Bucs become an elite team and that is what I hope for. Is that too tough to comprehend?

I am not a Raheem lover, I am a Gruden hater. But you clearly lack reading skills and you could use some Rossetta Stone for English language. If Raheem gets fired after this season, that is the least of my issues. Well actually an issue because I would be curious who the G-boyz will hire.

BTW, 1 Superbowl takes care of 1 divisional title and NFC Championship, they all happened in the same season. I hope all Gruden lovers stop saying “1 NFC Championship and 1 Superbowl”, only kids do that to make a point.

  47. oar Says:

Jonny, “BTW, 1 Superbowl takes care of 1 divisional title and NFC Championship, they all happened in the same season. I hope all Gruden lovers stop saying “1 NFC Championship and 1 Superbowl”, only kids do that to make a point.”
Not a kid here, but really? I guess only kids read the record books. So you are saying all the coaches that have won a Superbowl, don’t get that years conf title’s honor? Or like taking 3 conf titles away from Bilichek in 2001, 2003, or 2004, cause he won the Super Bowl those years? You must love Raheem and his records and stats don’t mean jack.
BTW “Elite”? I thought you were talking about the Alien race from Halo game and didn’t know 4 sentences were a big paragragh, lol!

  48. Eric Says:

So Gruden’s 2002 team didn’t win the NFC South and NFC Title cause they won the Super Bowl also?

Man, the delusions flow from present, to the future. to the past.

No limit to the Gruden hate, I suppose.

Just when I did’t think anything MORE stupid than “elite” could be said, another previously incomprehensible level is reached.

    Awesome! Keep em rolling Jonny.

    What else ya got?

  49. Tim Tebow Says:

Raheem “Radio” Morris should have waited one more year…..drafted me in the first round and with the other 4 QB’s on the roster, gave me time to learn the Pro reads and play book. I could have generated record jersey sales in Tampa and brought excitement to what can only be described as a dismal future in Tampa. The Glazer Brain (fart) Trust could not find their ample back sides in the dark with both hands…..I am not sure what Radio is paying them to coach here….but it would have been better to draft me in 2010 and pay Bill Cowher what he wanted this year. Radio is going to go 4-12 despite “almost” winning all their games with Freeman will be looking for a coordinatior job (which he has never had) to gain experience coaching. Radio…you don’t have the right to even mention the hoodies name out loud. Don’t use his name again the rest of your life and get over yourself you pompous idiot!!
