“He Was Probably Sick To His Stomach His Team Wasn’t In It”

February 16th, 2022

Betting on Tom Brady.

Former Bengals and Jets quarterback and current CBS Sports and WFAN-AM talking head Boomer Esiason is of the mind Tom Brady will return to football.

When or with what team, Esiason isn’t really sure. Appearing on WEEI-AM in Boston this week, Esiason said he won money betting Brady would retire before 2022 NFC Championship. So he’s willing to lay cash that Brady will return.

Why? Money and competitive juices, Esiason explains by way of Wilton Jackson of SI.com. The money he would get from another year in the NFL is just too good and Esiason said watching the Super Bowl from Costa Rica, Brady had to be vomiting knowing how close the Bucs were.

(Editor’s note: Joe was sick about this too. Second editor’s note: Brady said on his Monday radio show that he had returned from being out country before the Super Bowl.)

“… Nowadays, the money is so big and so significant and of course you will love to play the game,” Esiason said. “And I’d love to play the game at $30 and $35 millions a year I can tell you that right now.

“I’d be lining up the private jets and be flying everywhere I wanted to go each weekend to go see my family… It’s a lot of money to turn down… I would imagine if he was watching this game [Super Bowl] yesterday, he was probably sick to his stomach that his team wasn’t in it.”

Think about this: Brady led the league in passing — at 44. That is just in-freaking credible. Joe only hopes these loud whispers that Brady was fed up with the Bucs’ organization were simply very, very bad intel. For Joe, there is too much smoke to think it’s not a factor.

Joe is hoping Brady is putting the squeeze to Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to re-sign Chris Godwin and Ryan Jensen. The issue for Joe is, if Godwin and Jensen don’t know if Brady will return, why would they be motivated to stay?

It’s an awful pinch Licht is in.

You can hear Esiason’s full take in the WEEI audio below.

Stop giving these joke people in NE that are not reputable by any stretch of the imagination buzz. They’re a joke, gosh why is this place like a TMZ. Always posting all this stupid gossip, when it’s not true.

  2. adam from ny Says:

yeah while watching the super bowl i was thinking tom must be freakin’ pissed watching these teams…and knowing if we were in the game we woulda gone back to back

  3. MarkV Says:

Outside of a few games here and there, our defense has been average at best, horrible at times, and very inconsistent overall for Brady’s 2 Buc years. If there is smoke here Joe, seeing Bowles throw away the Rams game was likely the last straw. No way you can count on being competitive to the level that Tom expects rolling that mess out on defense every week.

  4. Bosch Says:

Maybe he is putting the squeeze on for a Bowles movement.

    Save The Licht House

  6. Swampbuc Says:

Not as sick as he was watching the Bowels of Todd wreck his majestic comeback.

After the year Brady had I deff didn’t think he would retire. He looked better this year then he did his whole career and and that’s saying a lot. Rams game wasn’t his best game and being as competitive as he is I really didn’t think he’d go out on a game like that. Makes me think he will be back but idk about y’all but I’m ready to move on and get over all this drama. Doesn’t matter who the QB will be let’s go BUCS

  8. SufferingSince76 Says:

There’s a lot of people yapping like they know what Tom thinks of the Bucs except Tom. Until he says it, the others are just flatulence.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Is anybody else ready to put this…”Will he, won’t he” speculation behind us and focus on our future?
If he does, he does….if he doesn’t, he doesn’t. Get over it.

  10. bucnole Says:

You gotta admit we had a LOT of injuries this year
I know – every team does – its part of the game
But come on – this team was playing hurt in that last game just like KC was playing hurt in the SB last year
    It matters

What I got from Boomer is he wishes he was Tom Brady. He wishes he could be swept away on private planes making 45 million a year. Instead he’s a hack with a sh#t radio show. Boomer you can’t live your life through Tom Brady. Brady has it all, has done it all. He’s already had this best career a QB will ever have, unlike you. He can walk away, you can only wish.

The D the last 2 years has been above average stopping the run but teams are on to that and pick this weak secondary apart. How many of cringe on every 3rd down? Doesn’t matter the distance 7 out of 10 times the pass is completed and the coaching staff and management didn’t fix it. Now let’s add Toilet Bowles play calling to the mix, the recipe for disaster. No time to go to the movies Toilet Bowle, you just killed Bucs franchise. Why isn’t this guy fired??? His lazy actions clearly prevented him from a HC job so Bucs have to be stuck with him? 27-27, 26 seconds left all you had to do was rush 3. Bowles sucks!

  13. SB~LV Says:

If anything he is throwing a hissy fit over FA’s then Bucs didn’t sign

  14. Bucsfanman Says:

This narrative is getting tired. Tom has not said anything that remotely resembles “I’m coming back” and it is pure speculation.

Ya’ll with the Bowles hate need to take the blinders off. If not for our defense, that game would’ve been a freakin’ blow out and no amount of 4th quarter heroics would’ve won that game. That’s a fact.
It’s unfortunate the way it ended. MAYBE a better play call keeps Kupp in check. We were lucky to have pulled even, IMO.

  15. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bucs fan, Cincy was down 27-3, wouldn’t the same apply to them and where did they end up? Stupid reasoning. If Bowels was Cincy DC they would of been on the outside looking in also.

  16. Denny Gay Says:

I’ve been sick to my stomach over football ever since the Rams loss. I barely wanted to pay attention to the Super Bowl… How do you let that team walk down the field and set up for a field goal in 40 seconds….

  17. Mikejp Says:

The Bucs should replace Todd by Brian Flores to convinces Tom to come back!

  18. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Boomer is stupid. Brady doesn’t want for money, and he’s not gonna ask for $35M a year. If he comes back it’ll be because he misses playing, likes the moves the Bucs make and thinks they have a legit shot at another title.

  19. Listnfrmafar Says:

Homer, you are correct actually to a fault, he.left NE because Belichick & Kraft offered $14MM.

  20. unbelievable Says:

    Brady isn’t chasing money.

    What a dumb take.

Missing the game / competitive juices burning? Sure, that would make sense. But LoL at saying he’s come back just for a single year QB salary. He’s always been about taking less to make the team better.

  21. Cleanhouse Says:

Our coach is a senile old man- sloppy
