The Light-Load Blessing

January 17th, 2022

The Bucs got what they needed yesterday in many ways, not just a resounding home playoff win at The Licht House.

It was apparent during the game, but Joe’s quick glance at the official snap counts confirms it. Ndamukong Suh, Vita Vea, and Shaq Barrett all played less than half of the defensive plays in the smothering of the Eagles. No, it’s not as good as a first-round bye, but it’s a blessing for old bodies, banged up bodies and big dudes.

Joe still remembers that Vea had an MCL sprain in mid-November. He logged 42 percent of the snaps yesterday compared to old man warrior Suh at 48 percent. Shaq was at 47 percent on his healing knee, and Jason Pierre-Paul was at just 55 percent in his return.

Will Gholston also got to rest his big bones with just 21 snaps (32 percent).

On the flip side, rookie outside linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka got plenty of action in his playoffs debut (52 percent) and Anthony Nelson picked up more experience (45 percent).

The Bucs are now very well positioned to have their big guns carry a heavier load on Sunday.

Also of note on defense, Lavonte David played 89 percent of the snaps, a great sign that his foot was holding up well.

please stop calling it Licht House….
Why? Joe actually told Jason Licht that the stadium name would change to The Licht House if the Bucs won the Super Bowl on his watch. A lot of fans like it. Some don’t. Kind of like everything written here. Licht is the architect of the championship roster whether you agree or not. –Joe

  2. DoooshLaRue Says:

    VV was running fast.

  3. David Says:

That is fantastic. I noticed it a lot during the game that McClendon, Tryon, and Nelson were in…. And they still dominated the line of scrimmage!. Hopefully that rest serves them well because there’s no doubt in my mind they can get Stafford to turn the ball over a few times when he’s pressured or trying to force a come back

  4. Rayjay1122 Says:

    Licht House
    Licht House
    Licht House
    Licht House
    Licht House
    Licht House
    Licht House
    😂😂😂

  5. David Says:

    OGBUC

    Why?
Licht built this roster through the draft and free agency and brought a Super Bowl and the first home playoff win in almost 2 decades to Tampa.
    Well deserved

  6. Scotty In Fat Antonio Says:

Here’s hoping and praying that ALL of our defensive players cabmn XATCH the ball next weekend.

  7. Bird Says:

Smb only guy not accounted for but glad bucs put edwards and winfield in slot on occasion. Smb is so up and down but good
To have back hopefully this week

Rest up lvd , the man that brings the defense all together.

And grayson on offense would be welcome return too

  8. Scotty In Fat Antonio Says:

    Can catch

  9. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Never heard of OGBUC so your request has been denied. Me tinks that LICHT House is whole heck of a lot better than Den of Depression which both were appropriate. Hopefully it never goes back to the latter!

  10. Kenny Says:

I was so confused about what the Licht House was. I thought it was some place to party and drink beers in the stadium. LOL.

  11. Kenny Says:

But @David, the Cards beat the Rams tonight, man.

  12. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

We are definitely getting it done at the LICHT HOUSE!

  13. DoooshLaRue Says:

Of all the silly monikers and adjective laced lead-ins, Licht House is one of the Joe’s better efforts.

  14. ATLBucsFan Says:

Enjoy the Licht House while you can! Best time to be a Bucs fan.

  15. ModHairKen Says:

Joe, love the moniker “Licht House.” He definitely built this team. What major contributors did he not draft or sign? He also brought in Arians.

  16. ModHairKen Says:

As for the split reps, were the drop offs for starters when the Eagles scored?

JPP, how is the shoulder? I assume it will require surgery, but did the time off reduce the pain?

Was yesterday one of Winfield’s best? The run support from DBs was like 1997-2005

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

Sorry.. but if Lynch hadn’t turned down TB12, Rayjay would definitely NOT be referred to by a GMs name.

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, I guess.

  18. Francisco Guzman Says:

Any word on Wirfs? They might need him next week. Ughhh can he get that ankle taped up?

  19. Buc4evr Says:

    Tom Brady field.

  20. Bob in valrico Says:

Licht has taken some lumps, learned from his mistakes and quietly built a
well rounded team It has a good mix of great free agents and quality draft picks.
I still remember the days when one injury to a key player equated to a loss, not anymore. So if Joe wants to give credit where credit is due ,its great.

  21. BigMacAttack Says:

I like Licht House too. It’s a clever play on words. I’m sure our GM loved it when you told him.

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

    OG

It’s just a creative play on words. Lighthouse….Lichthouse…

  23. Clw JB Says:

the DT and S rotations may be the best in the NFL

    VV, Suh, Roches, McClendon, Gholston

    Whitehead, Edwards, Winfield

    Absolute beast mode yesterday

  24. SufferingSince76 Says:

You guys that still get triggered by Joe’s monikers crack me up. One, that you actually think your criticisms will move Joe even slightly. Two, that the old sticks and stones adage definitely does not describe you.

  25. #1bucsfan Says:

Love the light house name. Every pirate ship needs a lighthouse. It’s all fits very nicely.

  26. #8 Says:

JPP and the Argonauts need that Licht House.

  27. Jmarkbuc Says:

    How about Pirates Cove?

I mean, there’s a freakin Pirate Ship parked in an end zone. I get the cute play on words with Licht, just seems gratuitous for a guy that was gonna be run out of town ( by MANY on this site) two years ago.

You either like it or you don’t… to each his own. I’ll take Brady field @ Pirates Cove , over Bud light slamming, flip flop wearing,AC/DC loving, suit in the pool jumping, lucky to sign BA, even Luckier Lynch blinked, terrible 2nd round drafter J Licht.

  28. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Great game for our defensive depth yesterday… JTS did well spying Hurts and Anthony Nelson played well. Roach has been an outstanding rotational guy and Mike Edwards would be a full time starter on many other teams. Jason Licht has done such a great job with this front seven in terms of depth.

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe won’t call it Raymond James Stadium……but I will.

The Licht House is fine….much better than “The Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway”

Joe has no problem calling other team’s stadiums by their sponsor’s names.

  30. Jmarkbuc Says:

Hey I’m just happy that in mid January, all there is to complain about is what Tickles Joe’s fancy…

    Go Bucs!

  31. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’ve never called it Raymond James Stadium. We the taxpayers bought it not Raymond James. That’s just gravy for the Glazers.

I go with the “late great” Chris Thomas who called it the CITS

Community Investment Tax Stadium. WE paid for it we deserve the name.

  32. SlyPirate Says:

They pulled Vea in the fourth quarter. The Eagles promptly scored a running touchdown. Vea played the rest of the game. That dude is a difference maker.

  33. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Barrett was OBVIOUSLY not himself!! He couldn’t get around the edge effectively!! He was basically bull rushing every play and that’s not really his thing…. Hope he feels better by next week!! … Wirfs will be fine

  34. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

BTW I think the cards will win

  35. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Historically, good teams draft well. The Packers and Steelers, come to my mind.

I think Jason Licht and his crew, have done good job of drafting their own players.
I’m not sure, but I would guess, it would be hard to find a good team with more of its own drafted players, right now.

They need to keep drafting well. Having rookie contracts is important, for staying under the salary cap. It’s hard to keep all the players, who are naturally wanting the big pay-day.

I hope I’m not being “captain obvious”

  36. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I’m no expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express, lol

  37. firethecannons Says:

Joe too kind tell OGBUC to walk da plank I like it as the Licht house I do not like the adjectives leading up to Brady’s name along with peter kings name and all the rest–gets my line of sight off track as I try to skip that

  38. alaskabuc Says:

“Licht House” sounds and eff of a lot better than “Den of Depression”…. Just saying

  39. JGhotier Says:

I know some don’t, but I like that you call it The Licht House….it’s very fitting to me and the perfect name

Much better than the Den of Depression

  40. Jmarkbuc Says:

This off season we are about to find out just what kind of GM Licht is …. Or if it’s been Greenberg all along.

  41. mark2001 Says:

Agree alaska…better calling it the Licht house than the den or depression, or calling that sad case philly jersey wearing Jameis Who, America’s Quarterback.

  42. timbucs2 Says:

I like the Licht House, but as an alternative…

    The TB Temple

  43. orlbucfan Says:

Buccaneers are sea pirates. The Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay are bodies of water, last I looked. Licht House is a clever wordplay. Much, much better than that stupid Big Sombrero Berman scared up. Jason Licht deserves the compliment. Who is OGBUC, a troll I bet.

  44. Joe Says:

I’ve never called it Raymond James Stadium. We the taxpayers bought it not Raymond James. That’s just gravy for the Glazers.

I go with the “late great” Chris Thomas who called it the CITS

Joe used to do that. Bucs *hated* it. Bucs are pretty tolerant of just about everything Joe writes. Except that.

  45. Jerry Strickland Says:

Only have this to say!!! Gooooo Bucccccsss!!!
YOU ARE THE BEST!! All the way to another SUPER BOWL!!!
ALL OF THE PLAYERS ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST!!

  46. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Joe

I understand. In another life I was in the same boat as you.

BTW I certainly don’t mean to insult the Glazers…it’s just how the game is played.

At least they haven’t done the Carpetbagging routine of Stu Sternberg. If people actually read what he had included in his stadium proposal…even worse than the Glazers and the CITS. He was going to get retail square footage on the side of the stadium that bordered Beach Drive. We build him a stadium and have to toss in retail space for even more gravy.

Sternberg is the biggest jerk to hit this market since Culverhouse!
