Kings Of The Takeaways

October 31st, 2021

Safety Mike Edwards

Since the start of the 2019 season, the Bucs have been the gold standard for forcing takeaways — and making teams pay dearly for being so sloppy.

Since Todd Bowles took over the defense, no team has scored more off turnovers (289 points) than the Bucs.

That’s damn good.

Also, no team in that time frame has more defensive touchdowns. The Bucs are tied with the Crows with nine touchdowns off turnovers.

And the Bucs seem to be on pace to do it all over again this season.

Despite a beat-up cornerback room, the Bucs are one interception behind the Cowboys for the NFL lead in picks with 10, same with the Rams and Bills. The slimy Saints have nine.

The fact the Bucs are doing this with all their cornerback injuries is wild to Joe.

I pray in this game Winston turns into the ATM we all loved to hate.

  2. Mike from Japan Says:

It should be counted against the point the team gives up on big plays.

  3. Listnfrmafar Says:

Means nothing, Bucs D has their number now. They figured them out in the playoffs. Winston is so far down the ladder compared to Brees, this game should be a breeze. 28-10 Bucs.

  4. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

    Love would be proud

  5. Medicated Pete Says:

Pete would be stunned if Jameis plays w/ poise all game long. Devin White or a DB will jump a route for a pick 6 today

  6. Jason Says:

Pass rush! Pass rush! Pass rush!

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

JPP, Shsq & Devin White rushing the passer causes many turnovers….and we have some great safeties…..
Get in Jameis’ face today…..take away his safety valve, Kamara…..and he will turn it over.

For five years the only thing the Bucs had to brag about was the arm of Jameis Winston and the hands of Mike Evans. Not everybody hates Jameis. Some appreciate a Buccaneer team noticed for offense for the first time in franchise history. Some fans know the difference between an accusation and a conviction. The franchise record books for QBs has Tom Brady and Jameis Winston at the top of the list in every single category with the exception of interceptions in a season. That belongs to Testeverde with 35. I didn’t hate Warren Sapp when he played for the Raiders. I didn’t hate John Lynch when he played for Denver. I don’t hate Jameis Winston now. I appreciate that no matter how hopeless a game was, he never quit. I hate players who quit, and Jameis never did. That said, I hope my team kicks the snot out of him this afternoon. Not wishing him injured, just ineffective. GO BUCS

  9. Timbucs2 Says:

We need to get up early, force Jameis to throw to catch up. He’s avoided hero-ball to this point because he hasn’t had to (except the Panthers game). That’s when he becomes more generous, as we all know.

This is on Brady and Co. to score early, something they couldn’t do against this Saints defense at all last year.

The Bucs just have to keep Kamara under control today. THAT is the KEY! Less than 100 total yards.

If we can do that, the Aint’s don’t have the WRs to allow Winston to keep up with the Bucs scoring. JW will be very emotional (look how Brady was going up against the Pats). And if an emotional JW trys for big plays with his weak WRs, well, we all know what is likely to happen there.

Prediction: Bucs 27 – Aints 17, JW throws 2 INTs, maybe adds a fumble holding on to the ball too long trying to be the hero

  11. Buc-em-up84 Says:

All I know is that pressure burst pipes and Winston deserves a lot of pressure

I am now convinced that bigots control what is allowed to be posted here.
Joe is now convinced that a lot of people inexplicably scream racist when their comment is moderated for a while like hundreds of others are (mostly to keep out bigoted commentary.–Joe

  13. Ed Says:

Senor Harry in Costa Rica: Bravo, you nailed it. Double cover Kamara the entire game and knock him off his routes when he stays in to block. He is unstoppable once he has the ball but if Jameis looks for him and LVD or White are knocking him around before he can get into a route, Winston will hold the ball too long.

The pass rush has been great recently. Saints have good offensive line but missing their starting all Pro Guard. Vea and Suh can push through the middle and like they did with Brees, get Jameis off his spot. Pass rush the middle because Saints have good offensive tackles.

Bowles has to do everything in his game plan to make Winston beat them, don’t play into Sean Payton’s plans to feed Kamara because he is a Buc killer!

  14. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Saints are w/o Andrus Peat today, so we should be able to get to Jameis.

  15. orlbucfan Says:

Sherman will be playing a few snaps today. With him helping out coaching that will be key with our banged up secondary. Winston will play with a lot of heart which is always a ?? with him. I would love to see a Bucs blowout cos I can’t stand Sean Cheatin’ Payton, but…not…..holding….my……breath. C’mon Tampa Bay!!

  16. Jerry Strickland Says:

So true…. Kamara has got be stopped and not let him get comfortable in his route. Jamies will not be able to handle the pressure and will surely make some very big mistakes. GOOOO Bucs!!!

  17. Bucman Says:

I would like to see Vita push up the middle and get in JW’s face quite a bit. I don’t JW has seen that kind of pressure before.

  18. Cobraboy Says:

I look for a number of planned sprint-out passes to counter the Bucs interior pressure without Peat.

  19. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard understands that offenses always start the season ahead of defenses, except for a Brady led offense which is immune to trends and stats.

Howard thinks we’re getting into the part of the season where defenses start to catch up. Howard expects a brazen, broad-daylight ATM robbery today with the perps getting away scott free.

    Go Brady!
    Go Bucs!
