Bruce Arians Shares Sideline Message For Opening Night

September 3rd, 2021

Bucco Bruce Arians is ready for a moment that will send Bucs fans into absolute ecstasy next week.

That’s when officials and staff at The Licht House will reveal the Buccaneers’ new Super Bowl banner before kickoff against the Cowboys.

For Arians, it’s sort of a reminder of what he wants his team to forget, he explained to CBS Sports Radio today.

“When they drop that banner Thursday night, I’m going to look at the guys on the sideline, ‘This isn’t yours, baby. That was last year’s team. And hopefully you guys can win this ballgame and move on,”’ Arians said.

Arians already had Team Glazer ditch various championship banners around One Buc Palace. He does not want anyone thinking of last season, yet that’s what will slap players minutes before the 2021 action gets cooking.

Joe is confident the message will get through.

Arians also explained that Tom Brady already had moved on to 2021 within a week of winning the Super Bowl. The head coach did not expect other Bucs to do that, but he expects their mentality to be there now and to not be affected by the banner reveal.

BA is saving his hip, cooler than fans get, Super Bowl gear till he retires. Biff hopes Bruce has two sets.

  2. Anonymous Says:

I was really skeptical about the Arians hire because I didn’t want the Bucs to have another new coach in 3 years . I was really wrong too . He delivered .

  3. Rod Munch Says:

I never understand why coaches think players shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy something like this, as if they enjoy this for 2 minutes, they’re suddenly going to not play hard. It’s makes no sense, and is the exact opposite of what you’d think prideful men would do – which is to protect that banner and their honor. I don’t really care what Ray Perkins told Arians when he hired him at Alabama, let you guys enjoy the moment and then if anyone is slacking off from being full of themselves, cut em. But I don’t really see that happening.

But, hey, Arians is the SB winning coach so what he says go. I just don’t see this as being a legit problem, it’s more of one of those issues where the coach just repeats some narrative his coach told him in 1964.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Anonymous – yeah, that’s a pretty stupid opinion, to not want 3-years of success because in 4-years you’d have to do something new. I remember you people who said that, and were rounded mocked at the time for being dopes. It’s the same crowd who last year complained about signing Brady, not because it meant giving up on Winston, but because they wanted Teddy Bridgewater. LOL! I notice those people don’t ever bring that up anymore, but I remember, and I’ll never forget.

  5. Mike Johnson Says:

Its going to be twice as hard as it was last year. Everybody is gunning for you. You get every teams absolutely best shot and then some. it can be done. But this one they will earn 10 times over. Let the games begin!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Like to unveil that banner for our away games…..then the opposing team can bow to that!!!

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

bow or kneel….they have the option…

  8. robertg Says:

Doesn’t stadium have superbowl banners at every corner?

  9. Pewter Power Says:

Gotta live in the moment so when the banner drops enjoy it, at kickoff destroy the cowboys. Not everyone can put their head down and work their entire career and look back when it’s over like Brady because it’s a super Bowl winning team but how many are hall of famers when their career is over like Brady and evans

  10. David Says:

Love it. “That isn’t yours!” LoL

  11. Bucs&Bolts Says:

Can’t wait for Thursday I’ll be so loud on defense Dak is gonna have a tough time !! If I leave the game with a voice I failed.

  12. SlyPirate Says:

    Or …

This is your banner. Respect it. Deserve it. Defend it.

  13. Mort Says:

Should be easy enough to forget and be motivated by the fact that if they do it again, it’ll likely help cement a couple of hall of fame legacies. Lavonte, Mike, AB and potentially a few others.

  14. Tackleblockwin Says:

The trophy is for the franchise
The rings are for the players
That banner is for the fans.

Ray Jay is going to be rocking.

  15. Buxszntkt Says:

Winghouse, new concession, but only boneless wings, WTF ?!

  16. Crickett Baker Says:

Idk. I think they should remember they are champs and play like champs every game AND clearly see the need to be better than they even were. But it bothers me when I find myself second guessing Bruce. 😀

  17. adam from ny Says:

with all due respects, BA can saw whatever he wants, but it’s Tom Brady who keeps the gravy train rolling down the tracks…

  18. P W Says:

Cant wait for the season.i miss tampa.what a town.Go Bucs!get rough and be tough.

  19. Brandon Says:

Rod thinks it’s stupid for coaches not to urge players to not rest on what they did last season…. the 2003 (7-9) Buccaneers disagree. Hell, the 8-8 1998 Bucs disagree. Both teams claimed to have let the success of the previous season go to their heads.

  20. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Reveal the banner, then burn it at the 50 yard line before kickoff!…Now that would be a statement!

  21. Theguvman Says:

Awesome! I’m with Bradentucky! That would be so cool! Arians is right on the money! No excuses to ever let up! He’s right. That banner belongs to last year’s team. Motivation is often subconscious, so Arians is right to make an issue of it. That’s what makes him a great coach and a great leader! If you don’t understand what Arians is saying, you don’t understand human nature, you don’t understand leadership and you don’t understand what it’s takes and how to WIN!
I totally agree with Mike Johnson! It is going to be very tough to win this year. BUCS are definitely the team to beat now. I also believe the BUCS can totally do it! I want to be on record here… And it’s not like I’m the first or only one to say it, I think Brady is even better this year than he was last year. He was unreal in his preseason drives! And Brady is totally the difference maker.
Oh and BTW, Gronk is going to he Hall of Fame too!
Ok guys! Ready? Let’s GOOOOOOOOOOOO! Lol! Go BUCS!

  22. BradyBucs Says:

FORGOT WHAT ARIANS HAS TO STAY TO THE TEAM ABOUT ANY BANNER…

What matters is what you know BRADY will tell them.

Brady has won many times before, even back-to-back, and there’s no doubt he’ll have a speech to the team before the season starts about how they must put last season’s success behind them and start all over to EARN IT again this year.

  23. mark2001 Says:

Just glad to see all the team leaders, players and coaches, are on the same page.

  24. lambchop Says:

    @Ros Munch,

That’s what the offseason was for. Sports at this level is about finding a psychological advantage. You can’t expect 53 men to all be driven the right way. The message they are creating is imperative to get everyone on the same page. No complacency will be tolerated.

The banner is yet another reminder of what was done last year. Last year won’t help you win games this year.

It’s much easier to have a chip on your shoulder than to control your ego and complacency. The message this year should be that you weren’t even the best in your division.

  25. lambchop Says:

Add to the fact that the Bucs have to maximize the time they have with the GOAT.

  26. Ryan Moore Says:

As everyone should understand, it’s not who is right/wrong on this subject. That is what makes us human! We can agree to disagree. You think your opinion is right smile someone else thinks differently.

But let’s just say that with all the talent on this roster, both offensively and defensively, they have an excellent chance to repeat! These guys are “ready for bear” and are going to play like no other team in history. I am very glad to be alive to watch it!

Our offense is insane, and our defense is LIGHTS OUT!!!! Let’s crush ’em all!!! GO BUCS!!!
