On To Kansas City

January 25th, 2021

Super Bowl chatter.

So it is Kansas City week (again) for Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians. Actually two weeks.

Just like when the Bucs played the Packers in October and the slimy Saints in October, the Bucs and the Chiefs are different teams from when they squared off in November.

Arians talked briefly about his Super Bowl opponent and about the last time the Bucs played the Chiefs in his day-after presser.

“That game was … where I think we were down 17 [points] and then we came storming back,” Arians said of the three-point loss to the defending champions. “Just couldn’t get the ball back. It should be a really good game.

“They’re a hell of a football team and they’re super well coached by Andy [Reid] and his whole crew – ‘Spags’ [Steve Spagnuolo] and everybody. [They have] great players, so it should be fun.”

Here are some things to keep in mind about the rematch:

* Antonio Brown was still not quite settled in with the Bucs offense. He is now. And yes, there is a good chance Brown will be ready to rock by the time the Super Bowl rolls around.

* The Bucs did not have the services of Vita Vea when the Bucs played the Chiefs. Joe is pretty confident fans saw what a difference Vea made in the pass rush yesterday.

* The Chiefs are down their starting tackles. Left tackle Eric Fisher blew out his Achilles in the AFC Championship game.

* And of course, the Bucs are red hot, entering the Super Bowl on a seven-game winning streak, a franchise record with dominant play from their offensive line.

No, the Chiefs are likely not the same team that played the Bucs in November.

And the Bucs are a different team, too.

(Oh, hey, anyone reading this feel free to forward to billionairess and Chiefs heir Gracie Hunt. Joe has a hook-up for her at Big Storm Brewing. The barbeque there is Kansas City-level and Joe is confident she will be turned on by the Cuban sandwiches, not to mention the outstanding craft beers.)

Don’t forget that the Bucs were without Jamel Dean when they played the Chiefs back in November also. He’s our fastest corner.

If i remember correctly, wasnt dean also out for that game and the rams game???

Some would say we were also without Carlton Davis.

It is unbelievable how healthy we could be for this game….perhaps only without Cappa & OJ…….the entire defense available…..and most of the offense….all skill positions….and Brady….not even a bruise.

Many I think are underestimating how big that Left Tackle loss is going to be for the Chiefs. Their OL is really banged up.

With Vea back, and two more weeks for him to continue to get in better shape, and the Bucs seeing how well he performed against the Packers on certain downs and how they might best use him, he’ll continue to make a big impact.

It’s not a coincidence that JPP and Shaq broke out of their Sack Slump with Vea back.

With the Chiefs’ OL challenges, the Bucs D can make it a really long day for Mahomes by keeping constant pressure on him.

I think that big hit he took against the Browns has him a little less likely to try and scramble for big yards. Especially seeing how hard Whitehead was hitting in that Packers game.

We can win the Super Bowl is our Offense can put up points early like we did against the Packers. We can’t start slow like we did against the Chiefs the first time we played or we will be in trouble.

  6. Darin Says:

Give Vea an extension soon. Vea is the best inside disruptor in the game alongside Chris Jones. Derwin who?

  7. Coburn Says:

Could say Cheifs are looking red hot noe too. That’s the impression I got watching them last night… I think it’ll be a good game… If it’s not I hope it’s because everything clicks for us in all phases and we somehow blow them out and not the other way around. Obviously want the win… Man for me personally this year has been good for my soul as silly as it sounds… Lots of personal stuff that has been going on, a rough year, and first year in at least a few I was able to watch every game

I’m getting a Vea jersey. I’ve been saying he’s a linchpin for our defense along with White. There’s a night and day difference without those 2. Vea may not get all the stats, but he collapses the middle of the pocket. QBs love the U-shaped pocket and get rattled when it collapses in on them. Vea is a collapser. Excited to see them in the Super Bowl. It’s going to be on JPP and Shaq to make sure Mahomes doesn’t escape to their sides. GO BUCS!!!!

And we get Antoine Jr. back????

Spags was the DC for the Giants when they controlled Brady, of course Spags had a much better group of players on the G-men D line than Reid does.

  12. Brad Says:

Joe we didn’t have Dean either vs them. He’s our fastest& longest guy to play with Hill.

  13. Brad Says:

He won’t get caught sleeping if he’s on the #1 target

The thing that may decide the SB could be special teams. Bucs return game doesn’t compare to the chiefs. Hopefully we learned from the saints game not give up big returns

  17. Rod Munch Says:

Bowles was terrible at the end of that Chiefs game, really disgraceful. Needing to get the ball back he just played a soft zone and let the Chiefs easily run the clock out. It was pitiful. I don’t care if you get burnt blitzing, you can’t just sit in a soft zone and let yourself get picked apart. I really hope Bowles doesn’t go into a shell again and think you can just wait out the Chiefs. Blitz, blitz and blitz some more, hit Mahomes on every play. People will talk about how good Mahomes is against the blitz, and he is really good, but teams only did it like 18% of the time I believe – and guess what, they only lost one meaningful game all year. You can’t do what everyone did or you’re going to lose. Blitz, play balls out, and yes, you will get burned, but hopefully you’ll also make a few plays. In any case its going to be a shootout, so they need to be ready for that.

Bowles seems to be playing more man than zone in the playoffs and I hope he stays with it one more game.

Thankful T Bowels has returned to his normal way, playing press coverage. One thing is for sure, having injuries to your Oline tackles is not a good thing against Shaq and JPP. The Bucs know they have to bring the “85 Bear Defense Pressure” against Mahome boy. The Bears would bring all out pressure on the QB. So I expect Bowels to bring the house, kitchen sink, and Aunt Mamie’s sewing machine lol. There is no tomorrow, Super Bowl or Bust baby! GO BUCS!!!!! Hey Warren Sapp, like you said in the last Super Bowl “dem Baaadd Bucs is here!!!!! “

  25. Brandon Says:

Y’all criticizing Bowles for playing zone… do you numbskulls remember what happened when we did what you said and played man and blitzed Mahomes? Hill had about 200 yards receiving in the 1st quarter alone. I’m not saying we shouldn’t man up or blitz but what I am saying is that when we did, we got murdered. Hill is a game wrecker. Hopefully we learned from our mistakes in that game.

  26. August 1976 Buc Says:

If you sit back against Rodgers like the Rams did, the Bucs would not be playing in the Super Bowl. If the Bucs sit back against the Saints l.5 weeks ago like they did when they got destroyed 38-3 they would not have played Green Bay. You simply cannot let Mahome boy pick and choose. Rodgers and Brees have made a living off of teams blitzing, but if you do not pressure them you will get beat. Same for Mahomes, you either pressure him or get destroyed plain and simple. GO BUCS!!!!!
