Bucs Tied For Last In Player Salaries

Look, Joe’s a journalist. He’s been trained for decades to be objective. Sometimes, Joe’s fault is to give someone the benefit of the doubt maybe too often.
It’s getting hard for Joe to continue to do this with the Bucs, but Joe is biting his tongue. He understands where Mark Dominik is coming from; totally gets it.
But it’s missives like what Gary Shelton of the St. Petersburg Times wrote today, and unearthed salary figures from Mike Florio, the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, that make Joe wonder if he is being a sap?
Per Florio, the Bucs are tied with the Chiefs for the lowest players’ payroll in the NFL.
Based on the numbers, the following franchises are, to date, taking full advantage of the lack of a salary floor: the Chiefs ($79 million), the Buccaneers ($79 million), the Jaguars ($81 million), the Bengals ($85 million), the Cardinals ($91 million), the Rams ($92 million), the Bills ($98 million).
What rankles Joe is that three of the most notorious skinflints in NFL history are paying more for players than the Bucs — Mike Brown, whose greatest talent Joe can decipher was the fact he was bred by an NFL legend, world class carpetbagger Bill Bidwill and senile Ralph Wilson.
And to think that Brown and Bidwill were able to piece together playoff teams while counting their nickels!
And the Jags, who can’t draw flies to a game! Can you imagine?
Makes Chucky seem like a damned good coach, doesn’t it, cobbling together a winning team with duct tape and chewing gum?
This makes Joe hate English kickball even more.

Joe, I don’t understand why you continually attack Gruden given he did give Tampa the only championship they will ever have. He proved himself in Oakland and again with the Bucs. The Glazerhouses were lucky to have ever hired him. Why can’t you see what the owners are doing? It’s as plain as the nose on your face.

JK, I didn’t read it that way! Sounds as though Joe complimented Gruden for winning with patched-together teams. The day Gruden was fired began the basement era!

While I agree that Bucs ownership is sliding…er racing towards Culverhousedom, it’s hard to have a large payroll with the duds this team is composed of! Looks like the Bucs of the ’80s all over again.I guess it’s chicken and egg deal.

Joe was not “continually attacking” Chucky nor does he “continually attack” Chucky. If you think that, you have a very vivid imagination.

JK is hypersensative to anything Chucky. Joe just types his name and JK goes crazy.
Joe swears if he would type, “Chucky’s wife is hot and his son is a good football player” JK would claim Joe is doing some hatchet job on Chucky.

Its probably a good idea to wait untill the actual season starts before we start comparing the diffrent spending demographics from around the leauge. Not saying I feel good about where this team seems to be headed, just saying. If history has proven anything it’s that lot WILL happen between now and week 1.

All of these teams with the exception of the Bengals and maybe the Cardinals (who just got rid of a few pricey players) are in rebuilding mode. All of them are filled with young and unproven players who do not have big cap eating contracts.
There is just no one avaliable to us who fits awhat we are trying to do as a franchise that is worth spending money on.
Only draft picks can get us quality players right now and Dominik has stated he’s worked hard to collect all of our picks and does not seem likely to relinquish any of the upper tier picks.

Gruden and Allen were forced to sign over the hill and bargain basement players due to the salary cap hell Rich McKay left them him when he bolted for Atlanta. Once Allen diligently got them out of cap trouble and in a position to be players in free agency they still forced to shop from the discount rack and ultimately fired by the Glazers. When Gruden states he felt “betrayed by the Glazers” what do you think he was referring to? Gruden wasnt going to be the good soldier for our jackass owners any longer while they ran the Bucs on a dime store budget and was ultimately fired. Dominik and Morris were hired at a savings and will do whatever the Glazers want them to.

There’s really no doubt about what’s going on here…
The Glazers are going to limp through this season in the hope that either a lockout or stern negotiations reshape their size of the pie…..
If a lockout seems imminent by the end of next season they’ll be luck to get 15K people to the game

Welcome to the party Joe. It’s took you a while to figure out this “mystery” but I’m sure if it wasn’t for those damn kids and their little dog too those Glazers would have really duped us all.
Oh, you mean this was common knowledge? Oh, then never mind.
Maybe next year you’ll figure out that Bobby Bowden really wasn’t doing FSU any favors by hanging on 10 years too long while the program imploded underneath him.
But I guess I’ll have to be patient and take things one revelation at a time 😉

In light of the browns’ trades today, I have a feeling we’re going to get every opportunity to trade down (and will) if one of the two DT’s aren’t available. We are in prime position to rake in the extra picks and still get a great player early in the 1st…
