Statement Game Against Sad Lions Team

December 13th, 2019

“Ira, if we lose this one …”

Joe watched the last two Lions games this morning and if Tampa Bay is the team Bucco Bruce Arians thinks it is, the Bucs should be at least a touchdown better than Detroit on Sunday.

No excuses.

The Lions are hot garbage, losers of nine out of their last 10 games. They’ve got a mountain of injuries, so many they didn’t have a regular Wednesday practice this week. And undrafted rookie quarterback David Blough will make his third consecutive start.

The Bucs defense has shut down the best running backs in the game many times this season. So they should be able to handle mighty Bo Scarbrough, who gets a heavy load out of the Detroit backfield. Just look at how healthy that Bucs defense is.

Joe doesn’t care if Jameis Winston plays or not. Bucco Bruce Arians picked Ryan Griffin as his backup quarterback, so did Jason Licht. Backups have had strong seasons across the NFL. Set up a solid game plan against Detroit’s 29th-ranked defense and move the chains with your weapons.

Arians says the Bucs culture is moving in the right direction and it’s obvious the team has its foot on the gas and doesn’t care about draft position.

Again, if the 6-7 Bucs are the team Arians thinks they are, then this game is one of the easiest Ws of the season.

There is no Gardner Minshew in Detroit to come off the bench and make the game difficult. Todd Bowles has two games of tape on Blough, and that should be enough to give him a very difficult day.

A loss Sunday would be inexcusable. There’s no other way Joe can spin it.

Bucs goal should be to win out. Climb out of the NFC south basement this year and challenge for playoffs next year.

  2. Robert Says:

If there was ever a game to start RG, this is it!!!

  3. miken Says:

We haven’t played anyone in a month. This should be an easy victory. Bucs 37 lions 9

  4. 813bucboi Says:

    robert

    i agree….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

Started 2-6 and about to get to 7-7. That’s progress, I don’t care who we have played. If you would of told me we would finish 5-3 on the road after our 7 week road trip I would of called you a liar.

  6. LaMarcus Says:

Jw is the 4th all time leader in passing yards per game in NFL history so we need him in there.

Ppl said he is a bust

  7. tmaxcon Says:

statement games are when you beat a nemesis to advance in the playoffs not beating another embarrassing franchise. come on raise your damn standards.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So much for “playing for the draft”…..I look for the defense to be spectacular Sunday……

Way to get us fired up! lol

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I would agree this should be the game where RG4 starts. Make Jameis the backup for this game, just in case and to give him time to heal.

  11. Slugglife Says:

Max is talking about raising our standards.

    This guy.

  12. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

We do not need Jameis to beat these Losers. Rest Jameis, and let Griffin get some game experience.
If the Lions had Matt Stafford, it might be interesting, but they don’t.
Sunday evening, we will be 7-7 in a blowout of the Lions.

  13. TOM Says:

Easy win. Should start RG. Or at least bring him in after Bucs build up a big lead.

  14. Sleepy903 Says:

I know people want to start Griffin however its pretty safe to say that JW will be the QB next year he needs to continue getting these reps in the offense especially with so many back ups playing in these next few weeks. That’s how you solidify your depth. Maybe the last game of the season you allow Griffin to play the second half. But OJ, Scotty and Watson definitely need the live reps w/ JW.

Remember it was said that around the 8th game JW should be more comfortable with the offense. Im sure that goes for the WR and RB’s too. We are actually 4-1 since that 8th game. So im all for letting JW continue to build that trust with these other WR’s and allow them to get those reps w/ JW to hopefully carry over until next year.

  15. Sport Says:

This is what progress looks like. Climb out of the cellar step by step. Two keys to the game for the Bucs where we lack consistency:

    1. QB (offense) not spotting points to the opponents
    2. Strong communication in the secondary

    We are seeing real improvement.

    In BA I Trust!

  16. donuts Says:

    Joe

The Ira/BA image made me think they were talking about where to get the best beet salad. Any truth behind the rumor? lol

  17. Robert Says:

how many “easy wins” has this team lost.

they’ll probably start Jw, lose, have 4 int’s, including a picks 6 and blame the thumb.

  18. '79 Defense Says:

Hopefully a taking care of business type of win, but this has all the makings of a what the hell was that, they fooled us yet again type of loss.

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs cannot assume anything. Undrafted rookie QB starting for Lions? Sound like a..trap game to me. Lions are fighting to keep a coach the players like. Go into the Lions Den half stepping if you want to, and we will lose. Bucs gotta bring the pain hard on this rookie QB. To say this is an automatic win for our Bucs is Ludicrous. I mean after all, We’re still..The Bucs.

  20. BigHog Says:

Today is Friday and if you know FAMOUS..then you know his MO-CHEESE-MO will come out by SUNDAY and FAMOUS will lead the way to a 4 game streak!! Do it big FAMOUS!! Perriman ..Watson .. will follow the lead of GODWIN!!

  21. ClodHopper Says:

Rookie QB that’s having troubles winning? Gulp

  22. Cobraboy Says:

Bucs need a game without Evans for the development of the offense.

    Start Winston.

  23. adam from ny Says:

what if the bucs blow this game, and come home and lose to the texans…?

and then beat atlanta in the finale?

we are back at square one…no culture change…

we must win 2 of the 3 games at least…

    starting with the detroit game

  24. adam from ny Says:

because it would be a classic bucs move to drop this game 37-14…

and leave all the fans with dropped jaws and drawers

  25. Rod Munch Says:

This is a game the Bucs always lose, always.

Can Arians undo all of Bucs history and traditions? I don’t know.

  26. orlbucfan Says:

Wounded lions are very dangerous. Stay on guard, Bucs!
