Mike Evans Talks Playoffs

May 20th, 2019

The best receiver in Bucs history was raising — and donating — $40,000 Saturday to help needy kids get scholarships to Texas A&M University.

Mike Evans also was talking Bucs to promote the event.

He was down at his college stomping grounds of College Station, Texas, hosting a bowling event that supports his foundation, which is devoted to helping children.

What does 2019 hold for the Bucs under a new head coach? Evans was asked by TexAgs Radio.

“The guys have responded really well to the new coaching staff [in Tampa],” Evans said. “I really like this offense a lot. I just think it’s going to be our best year.

“If we stay healthy, I think we’re a playoff contender. … I just pray that we stay healthy. And you know, everybody’s already bought in, so we just need a good training camp and a good season and I think we’ll do well.”

Playoffs? Hey, Joe loves the optimism. Every Buccaneer should think that way.

Evans noted Kwon Alexander was a significant loss, and Evans emphasized a few times how much he likes the Bruce Arians’ offense. Joe has a hunch that means Evans will see more deep shots coming his way.

On defense, Evans says he likes that Todd Bowles is high quality defensive coordinator who will have the “pick of the litter” among all the new draft picks on defense and the additional talent added.

As for bowling, well, Evans says he’s sort a typical Joe-bag-a-donuts on the lanes.

“I’m not very good at bowling, but when I get a couple beers in me, and I get in the zone, I become a decent bowler,” Evans said.

    ummmm…..OK.

“Playoffs? Hey, Joe loves the optimism. Every Buccaneer should think that way.”

    @joe
That was the biggest lie you ever wrote! Dude, why attack Joe with BS? Of course Joe wants players acting and thinking with urgency and optimism? That’s the nature of players with a healthy mindset, and that can help lead to better work habits and wins. Hate to break this to you, but fan or media optimism or pessimism doesn’t win or lose games.–Joe
Joe does NOT love optimism. You pi$$ on it every day in here. Joe does NOT think every Buccaneer should think that way. If they did, Joe would just negatively judge and smirk.
    10-6 & Playoffs!

  5. Buc believer Says:

I think that Mike needs to be drug tested.

  6. Todd Says:

    @joe

It wasn’t an attack, just an observation.

I personally can’t wait to see how your commentary evolves as we go 10-6 and making the playoffs…THIS YEAR. I wonder if YOU will then be enthusiastically optimistic going forward?

    I sure hope so!

What’s a Monday morning without getting your blood pressure up, Joe?! 😉

  7. Rashad Says:

Why does Mike need to be drug tested ?

  8. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

I really really feel for ME…he deserves to play football on a play off caliber team….”Wasting away on Dale Mabry”

  9. Chip Chipperson Says:

Yeah…stupid Evans MUST be on drugs or something. To suggest his team will have a good season. THE AUDACITY! Trade him NOW!

  10. Buc believer Says:

Rashad… if you dont see the sarcasm in my comment you and Mike need to go to the same testing site.

  11. Eric y Says:

Now joe .. mike Evans is a guy I love on this team… he puts it on the field every Sunday there’s no denying that…. this article gives me goosebumps….I just wish more players on this team had his work ethic and determination

  12. Eric y Says:

Alteredego your are so right …. I really hope his career gets some playoff exposure because he is hall of fame talent and be a shame if we never get mike there

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t blame fans for being skeptical….year after year we have unmet expectations…..
But when it comes down to it, I choose to be cautiously optimistic……it just plain feels better.
Being a fan is a fantastic experience…..why wallow in the negativism?

Causes for optimism this year…….New Coaching Staff, Devin White & new draft class….(maybe a successful kicker)

Sure…there are downers like salary cap & JPP…..but every team experiences those.

I sometimes wonder if some of the posters that are always extremely negative are really fans at all. I feel a bit sorry for them……feel the joy!!!

  14. The Buc Realist Says:

Talk like this should get Buc’s players automatically into NFL concussion protocol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long????? Not Long!!!!!!!!! Because what you reap!!!!! Is what you SOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Eric y Says:

Tampabaybucfan we are fans … well at least I can say I am … I do post negative crap on here … but it’s the truth … my main concern is players who are fake and rub off laziness to other players … like GMC … can’t count how many coaches he ran off … they say well GMC never had good players around him … we get Nassib and JPP and these dudes show up and where is GMC … stuff like that really pisses me off … every year these players come into the new calendar year and say well this is gonna be a different year … we’re better blah blah blah … I want this team to keep its mouth shut and let their play do the talking … SSDD … when this team gets to the playoffs there won’t be anything negative to say … but when your 5-11 every year this is what your gonna get

  16. OneBuc55 Says:

Imo the loser mentality was one of the biggest road blocks for this team …BA is changing that…I’m thinking 11-5 playoffs…

    Go Bucs!

  17. tmaxcon Says:

Playoffs now that is funny….Hell BA wont win 10 games in 2 years… the the soft safe spacers confuse optimism with being absolutely delusional… ba wont make it 2 full seasons before bailing on this minor league franchise ran by incompetent glazers. Evans will never see a post season game in his entire buc career…. glazers have no intention of fielding a winner…. nearly two decades of embarrassing football and basement titles prove the glazers dont even try. They don’t have to low standard bucfan is content losing with a smile

You have to try really hard to be as bad as bucs have been outside of Gruden glory year….

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Eric y

A negative now and then is normal but nothing but negative is very questionable….

  19. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampabaybucfan

The onfield results have been negative bordering on embarrassing for 40 out of 42 years. So who are the fools those he cry optimistic bs and get nutpunched every year or those who want real change that leads to consistent winning not just one great year every couple of decades to satisfy low standard bucfan

  20. OneBuc55 Says:

For all the doubters, I understand…This team hasn’t earn the right to be given the benefit of the doubt…

I’m an optimistic fan; BA was the right coach at the right time…it’s been a long time since we’ve had coach capable of actually out coaching someone; Imo the last 2 or 3 years we’ve had enough talent to be a playoff team, now we finally have a competent coach with a pair calling the shots..

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

tmax- Say it with me: 16-dash-0!!! No prisoners!

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    40 out of 42 years?

We went to the NFC Championship twice & the SB once….that’s three years so….you, as usual are overly negative……figures.

  23. Buctooth Says:

    Playoffs playoffs your talking playoffs.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

    i agree with mike….

this coaching staff is the best he’s ever had…..

no reason why we couldnt make the playoffs…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  25. Ra'Shad Says:

    Buc Believer,

I didn’t realize that you were using sarcasm. It’s hard to tell on here considering all the negative fans that we have. My wrong.

Huge pass to the coaching staff issued by the “real” Buc fans!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!

  27. Buccernutter Says:

There is absolutely a correlation between long time fans and negativity and newer fans and optimism. I think I’m an outlier in that I’ve been a fan since 86 and am still confident in this season. People are overlooking the importance of a great coaching staff. It’s ignorant to be honest.

All these season predictions and lack of parity, fantasy rankings, strength of schedule, etc is all but******. Teams fluctuate in this league more than most. It’s so ironic how koetter and everyone praised our roster as one of the best in the league and now we’re lacking talent? No we just didn’t have the coaches to bring the best out of them. We are a talented team. Don’t get it twisted.

This season will unveil truths to Buc realist that real fans (see how I didn’t use quotes like you ironically use every time) already know.

it’s a little early for one of my favorite posters to be mixing fentanyl and booze… i am concerned sir… seek help….

  29. tmaxcon Says:

    Buccernutter

every few years it’s the same bs from you guys “we finally go real coaches” but you forget to mention we still have the same glazers leading the way and setting the tone for the organization. You can’t win with apathetic owners more concerned with soccer than NFL…. they don’t have to try win between NFL revenue sharing (CHARITY) and low standard bucfan happy with a good season every couple of decades. No need for them to do the right thing and bring in a PROVEN football guy in to run the show….. a proven winner…. not some washed up has been from the past or feel good story to cater to low standard bucfan. A real football guy who calls the shots and is a driven winner with nonsense policies and clear vision to keep the employees in LINE players are employees….

  30. tmaxcon Says:

    no-nonsense

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Buccernutter

Don’t confuse me with being a newer fan…..was a season ticket holder in ’76….never missed watching a snap since.

I am an optimist by nature….in my DNA…..all I am saying is when a poster is 100% negative….you have to question their thinking…..

Look at it this way…..if a person is 100% negative and still hangs around….they are disturbed.

Like hating a job….complaining about it constantly and never looking for another job…..or staying married to someone you despise.

  32. tmaxcon Says:

    tbbf

We went to the NFC Championship twice & the SB once….that’s three years so….you, as usual are overly negative……figures.

no as usual you simply just have lower standards…. going to and losing the nfc championship is not successful that’s failure…. bucs never had a chance in the post season with dungy the clown and mckay’s high school offense…. no one believed the bucs had a chance in either of those games…. bucs were pretenders never contenders. one year wonders under gruden nothing more…. mckay’s playoff win with a real expansion team and no free agency was very impressive thus 2 good seasons. period… not negativity when it is reality.

  33. Buccernutter Says:

    Tbbf

I agree with all of that. I guess I should have emphasized the negative fans are some of the dumbest in the history of sports.

These guys seriously compromise the enjoyment of this site. Joe knows his stuff but every article has something negative nowadays and people are already banking on a 5-11 season.

    It’s a bucs life.

  34. #1bucsfan Says:

    #endthedrought.

  35. tmaxcon Says:

5-11 is optimistic 3-12-1 is more realistic
