Ryan Fitzpatrick To The Panthers?

January 29th, 2019

Chatter out of the Carolinas

Ryan Fitzpatrick’s final five games as a Bucs starter would make even Josh McCown blush.

The numbers tell much of the story, 7 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 5 losses — 47 expletives shouted at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters.

FitzKoetter truly was a total nightmare after a stunning and heroic start.

But at 36 years old, Fitzpatrick has given no indication he wants to quit. And apparently, Bruce Arians thinks he will be a valuable Bucs asset. (Note to Team Glazer: you might want to order Arians another physical.)

However, Fitzpatrick will be a free agent in six short weeks if the Bucs don’t re-sign him. So the ball is very much in his court.

Panthers beat writer Marcel Louis-Jacques seems to think Carolina will be interested in Fitzpatrick, who has proven he can win games. Cam Newton (again) will start the 2019 season coming off shoulder surgery and his team will need a backup plan with teeth.

Ryan Fitzpatrick trails only Nick Foles when it comes to NFL backup quarterbacks who can start games — and win — in a pinch. Bruce Arians appears to be all-in on Jameis Winston in Tampa Bay and Fitzpatrick could possibly be lured to NFC South rival Carolina with a far more balanced offense and arguably a better chance to succeed.

Joe can already smell how this could go. The Panthers would learn Newton won’t be available until Week 4 and the Bucs, of course, would open the season at Carolina with Fitzpatrick starting against the Todd Bowles defense he saw for two years every single day when he quarterbacked the Jets.

Fun facts: Fitzpatrick is 4-2 in opening day starts, with a whopping 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.

At this rate Fitz WILL Abe an NFL record setting QB. He will be the first QB to play for every single team in the league.

  2. adam from ny Says:

all i really hope for with bucco bruce is that he sports 16 different colored kangols in 16 games…like mr. rogers style…remember mr. rogers always chose a different colored sweater for every tv show…bruce needs to get colorful kangols and rock a hot sporty color every week…heck we are the bucs…we don’t need wins…we need kangol karma!

  3. gbobucsfan Says:

I think we open against Arizona.

  4. Colonel Angus Says:

I think we will open in Nashville. And dare I say that Arians will have us Tennessee ready?

  5. Loyaltotheend Says:

If we can ever see Jameis play two consecutive games like Fitz did then he will convince a lot of people he really is a franchise qb

Until then he’s just a inconsistent below average qb that hasn’t lived up to his draft position

  6. Robert Says:

So much stupid in this article jbf should drug test more often.

  7. stpetebucsfan Says:

I don’t tend to think of the competition and who we play. I enjoy beating some teams more than others and embarrassing some players more than others….as in Cam Newton not Fitz.

Last year folks were certain we’d start 0-2 because we opened in New Orleans against the Saints and then played the defending SB champion Eagles. How did that work out?

I don’t really care who we play. If our guys play well, and are coached well, we should be able to beat any team in the league.

As the saying goes…”On any given Sunday”.

I’m always far more concerned about how we are playing than the competition. If we play well we can beat the best of teams, when we play poorly we can lose to the worst of teams. It’s as simple as that.

  8. Buc50 Says:

Those were 2 record breaking starts so I highly doubt he will open like Fitz. Fitz pretty much sucked after that so let’s not get carried away. I’ll be happy with 2 wins and leave the records to Fitz.

  9. Loyaltotheend Says:

    @Buc50

Jameis is still the only drafted QB since 2015 to be a starter and not throw for more than 2 TD’s in consecutive games

So not expecting 400 plus yards and 4 TDs in back to back games but to deliver the ball with accuracy, protect the ball, and win the game (for a change) would be nice

  10. Defense Rules Says:

@Louis-Jacques … “Fitzpatrick could possibly be lured to NFC South rival Carolina with a far more balanced offense and arguably a better chance to succeed.”

Wow, talk about speculation … Operative words are “could possibly” & “arguably”. Panthers have a rookie backup QB (Kyle Allen) who started 1 game … and won it handily, posting some excellent stats. And I’m not really sure the Panthers are “a far more balanced offense”. They rushed 416 times last year, of which 111 belonged to their QBs. Bucs rushed 389 times last year, of which 85 were by our QBs. Looks like the SAME number of runs by non-QBs for both teams to me (although Panthers did admittedly get better rushing yardage).

  11. SteelStudBuc Says:

I think the Redskins might want Fitz

  12. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

So 2 games like Fitz had would prove he is a franchise QB? How did that work out for Fitz. Obviously you hate JW, but try to make some sense when you spew your vitriol. Your statement was moronic based on the fact that Fitz proceeded to to look like the ultimate scrub after those two games.

  13. BringBucsBack Says:

How many expletives were shouted at joejameisfan HQ when he was urinating on himself? …Once he was suspended? …after his 3rd of 5 “hand-offs” to a defender in the ‘Natty game?

If you are only going to site Fitz’s bad play, it’s not only unfair, it’s lazy “OpEding”.

We are still waiting for #3 to have one game like Fitz did in the first 2 1/2. Folks only remember Fitz’s 3 pics in the Pitt game and that at least two of those were tipped or the result of a bad WR route. They also forget how Fitz brought them back in the 2nd half and narrowly missed a victory save for a ST penalty on DJax’s punt return for a TD. Fitz should have started 3-0! Yet, the Jameis herd would have still insisted that #3 started upon his return!?

If BA is seriously considering DJackwagon then, he is certainly entertaining keeping Fitz. Why wouldn’t he, he’s the perfect back-up?

  14. Bucsdelight Says:

What he is trying to say is, Winston hasn’t looked like a franchise QB. He has looked like an avg. QB in the NFL. You could replace him with 17-18 other QBs and you more than likely wouldn’t know the difference or you might have better results depending. If Winston would put up some nice numbers like Fitz did, he might convince people he is the guy. So far, he hasn’t been able to do that. Of course, when we talk about Franchise QBs, I think of Drew Brees, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Tom Brady, Big Ben, Patrick, Jared, Watson, etc. I think when Tampa talks about a Franchise QB, they just want someone that can throw for 200 yds, have a maximum of 1 int. and get a TD or 2 and call it day. Hoping the Defense can hold the opposing team to below 17 pts so we can win. It’s been 4 years with Winston, maybe he’ll get better with age, but so far, we haven’t seen that. He has one more year left. Let’s hope it all comes together for him and he finally figures it out. He could just be a slow learner, or he could be who we think he is. Just another QB that isn’t going to win you games in a tight situation.

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

If jw3 had the two games like fitz started, then the sheep would be wondering why they have not locked up the qb!!!!!!!!!!!!! but his performance was rusty and shaky at best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention of how much more difficult Fitz schedule of starts were compared to jw3!!!!!

    Jw3 – 9 starts, combine opponents records, wins 71- losses 72- tie 1!!!

    Fitz – 7 starts, combine opponents records, wins 62 – losses 49 – tie 1!!!!!!!!!

Once again, no one is saying fitz is great or even a starter, But why could not the franchise play better than the backup???????????

The 2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. miken Says:

Fitz to the panthers and Hump goes to the saints. Both torture us in 2019… its the Bucs way.

  17. Lamarcus Says:

Who cares about Fitz. He just as a locker room cancer as djx was. Fitz knew this was JW team and should stayed in his role. But no, he wanted to be starter and help derailed the season. Then his demeanor against the bears said it all….. We don’t need players like this. He taught JW alright ….. To be a bench player like him because that’s exactly what happened JW

  18. 813bucboi Says:

those 2 games that fitz won are a bigger fluke than the 5game winning streak in 2016!!!!!!!!….lol….

if winston would went 2-0 and then had the type of performance fitz had vs the steelers, bears, redskins and giants yall would be saying send him packing…..

“real” fans know winston’s lack of development by the previous staff is the root of most of his problems as well as the teams problems….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The problem with this article is the assumption thatour defense will be like the Jets defense was under Bowles. It won’t be. Even if the bucs draft 3-4 friendly players, there is no way they would all be ready to start by the first game.

So the Defense will be totally different from the Jets.

And Fitz won’t know anything about our offense either.

  21. tmaxcon Says:

Until then he’s just a inconsistent below average qb that hasn’t lived up to his draft position

YET WINSTON WILL HOLD EVERY SINGLE BUCCANEERS QB RECORD BEFORE HIS 28 BDAY……. You anti jameis losers are beyond laughable…. just a bunch of jealous gaytor loving rednecks

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Lamarcus Says
“Who cares about Fitz. He just as a locker room cancer as djx was. Fitz knew this was JW team and should stayed in his role. But no, he wanted to be starter and help derailed the season. ”

Well, that’s a bunch of bull. I never wanted Fitz to start, but to call him a cancer is straight out wrong. He is a team first guy.

You think he should have refused to start when called upon? Or that he should have mailed it in?

Give me a break, man! You are making no sense!

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    813bucboi,

Why does it have to be either-or?

Both the coaching AND the players were at fault.

  24. Bucsdelight Says:

“YET WINSTON WILL HOLD EVERY SINGLE BUCCANEERS QB RECORD BEFORE HIS 28 BDAY……. You anti jameis losers are beyond laughable…. just a bunch of jealous gaytor loving rednecks”.

Huh? are you ok? Definitely not a gators fan, not even a SEC fan. Also, I’d bet that 95% of the people on here, aren’t even close to being a redneck or whatever that means to you.

Ask yourself why Jameis would hold those records. One, he’d be the first QB in TB franchise to make it past 6 years. 2nd he’d have to get another contract in order to do that. So a QB that was in a franchise longer than any other QB we had? I’d hope he’d break those records. But don’t let facts get in the way of your uneducated comments. Doug Williams here for 5 yrs and Vinny Testaverde here for 6yrs. That is the longest that we’ve had a QB. They played in a different Era so not comparable. Brad Johnson and Josh Freeman are probably the closest we have to compare a QB to. So do we really want to hang our hat on that?

Guess what, the next QB that is here longer than that will break the records. haha. You Jameis lovers are so special.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    what are you talking about?…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  26. Couch Fan Says:

I just want to know if we are ever going to give Griffin the chance to at least be the back up. I dont mind Firz being the back up but it makes no sense why we arent giving him more of an oppertunity. Hes played pretty well in the pre season games hes played in that ive seen.

  27. Loyaltotheend Says:

    @Tmaxcon

Well considering the Bucs QB records aren’t really impressive Jameis breaking franchise records is about impressive as his Uber history

Sorry I went to Georgetown so I have no college rooting affiliation I just have higher expectations for a player drafted #1 rooting for schools I never attended is borderline moronic

  28. Maze Says:

Would be a great spot for him and Carolina. Would have an excellent chance to start right away. Cam has turned into a bum

  29. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucsdelight

bottom line dude whether you get passed it or not, Jameis Winston is the MOST TALENTED buc of ALL time….

I realize that hurts the feelings of those living in the past and hanging onto the failed dungy the clown era but your personal feelings aside Jameis hands down has more potential and talent than any other Buccaneer outside of maybe selmon and sapp… those are raw facts.

Jameis would have had a super bowl already if he was not on one of the most dysfunctional teams in league history. You fools want to blame the entire franchise “inconsistencies” on a young man who gives more during the first half of a game than cancer93 has given this franchise in a decade… It’s truly laughable.

The entire Bucs organization top to bottom is a total laughing stock for nearly 2 decades… yeah that’s on jameis… this team has destroyed the careers of more young men and coaches… and that’s on jameis….
sure don’t see you calling out the vet leaders for their inconsistencies. cancer93 has made 10 plays in 10 years not to mention being the captain of some of the worst defenses in NFL HISTORY. It’s all on jameis LVD has not played a complete season since schiano walked out the door and has admitted to being the most mentally weak player on the field each Sunday but yeah that’s on jameis too..

buc fans have the lowest standards and make ignorant fools look intelligent. 2 playoff wins in 6 years and you fools call it glory years. you should be embarrassed. there is a reason the national media and the rest of the world laughs or simply do not even know the bucs exist.

Jameis is the brightest spot on this team and the only hope for the future. climb on the train…

  30. Robert Says:

“Jameis Winston is the MOST TALENTED buc of ALL time”

get off your knees and wipe your chin. thats the stupidest $hit I ever read and you should be slapped for typing it.

seriously, take your computer, unplug it and throw it out the window.

    thanks,
    management

  31. Bucsdelight Says:

“Jameis would have had a super bowl already if he was not on one of the most dysfunctional teams in league history.”

Look, I understand FSU fans have a hard on for Jameis. But that is laughable. I remember you all saying we were going to the SB in 3 years with Jameis. We just hope we can maybe make a playoff game one of these games. Making excuses by blaming the team is also laughable. Look at the Browns. The worst team in the NFL year after year and their #1 pick has turned them around in just one year. They have a bright future. No one said that about the Bucs after Jameis’ first year. Please, stop with the delusions.

I do agree that Glazers are the problem though. I do not agree that Jameis is the brightest spot on this team. I think Evans and Howard and Godwin are brighter spots on this team. Hell, Marpet is a brighter spot than Jameis. Until Jameis can prove that he can be consistent and lead this team, there is no reason for me to believe he is anything but an avg. QB on this team.

  32. Couch Fan Says:

Best post Ive ever seen from Tmax. Lol Completely agree. Jameis has his faults but one of they most talented players we’ve ever had. Maybe not they most talented but definately WAY up there.

  33. tmaxcon Says:

not an fsu fan just a realist who only cares about wins and talent…. you fools caught up in good in the community and nice guy garbage are forgetting some of the off-field talents that our super bowl winning roster contained after Gruden cleaned up dungy the clowns mess….

    jameis is the best hope…

robert tell your wife I’ll be running late tonight…

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

John Romano wrote this morning that the debate is over and Brady is the GOAT QB. I say that depends on how you view greatness. If it’s simply W’s then Brady is absolutely best.

But as D.R. loves to point out it’s a team game. Brady is absolutely the most successful QB of all time but he’s had the GOAT coach and arguably one of the GOAT owners. He’s had no injuries and a ton of luck…like a KC player lining up in the neutral zone giving Brady yet another SB appearance…but give him his due…he has scoreboard.

So that’s settled…but who is best. I’d like to ask you guys by another metric. If you were starting a franchise and could take any QB in history in their prime who would be your first draft pick and Belichek would not be your coach…Kraft would not be the owner….so who do you take as your #1?

Brady…Marino…Namath in his prime for just a year…lots of candidates.

Same with JW….I like the JW that finished the season…his first 3 1/2 years…not so much. If we had the #1 pick this year and JW was just coming out would you still draft him at the top of the draft? If he played like the last six games I would…before that no.

  35. Loyaltotheend Says:

Jameis peaked his first year at FSU since then he’s just barely average on his good weeks

  36. Robert Says:

no worries tmax. I know you got some JW baby batter to gobble.
