I agree with Mayock, and have not changed since January. I still say the Bucs will draft a safety in Round 1. Mayock even said it’s Malik Hooker. Fine with me. I’ll go now and still say a WR in Round 2 (not changed), and RB Marlon Mack in Round 3. I had originally thought they’d not draft a RB at all, but it’s a deep draft in RBs, and I think they need to look ahead to a solid, varied corps of RBs, with or without Doug Martin. I think Martin stays a Buc for two more seasons (under a restructured deal), and unless Sims beats out Barber in special teams as the 4th RB, Sims will traded in pre-season for a fifth round pick (fourth round maybe? Probably not. He’s disappointed all). Sims, in his last year of his rookie contract, is trade bait. Either way, I’d be surprised if they renew his contract. I think the wildcard pick may be a tight end in Round 2 and the Bucs sign VJax back to spell DJax if he does down. Yes, Mike Smith gets a key piece for Defense that the GM supports, and this draft nicely complements this year’s free agency run where they already picked up another serviceable Safety and DT, brought Conte back, brought depth at DE back (Smith and Goulston with Ayers and N. Spence), and need another starting Safety for now and for later. Next year, look to draft CB (replace Grimes), DE, LB. Year after the 1st Round is to replace GMac.

Fred, I’m with you on safety with the first pick. I would love it, especially after how the loss of McDougald hit me. It just didn’t make sense until I realized Licht had to have planned a big upgrade at the position.
It isn’t Wilcox. He isn’t even as good as Conte.
McDougald was getting pretty goid, and improving each year. Upgrading would mean a big move. Anything less than a first would be a lateral move.
As to the rest of your prediction, I think it plays out differently…starting with a trade.

If I were to apply draft values to out current Safeties (not for trade purpises), I would give:
Conte 4th round
Wilcox 5th round
Tandy 5-6th round
McDougald would have been 2nd round value
We certainly need an upgrade.

I see nothing wrong with the TE from Miami at no. one. A pass rushing DE at no. 2. Maybe Willis from KS. Next rounds for WR and RB depth. My view.

Would like to see a trade back; pick up another pick in a deep draft. But…All the other GMs are trying to do the same thing with one exception. Looks like most of the top quarterbacks will be available in the late 1st round. Teams looking for a QB might trade up with Tampa to grab one. Hence, we get extra pick(s).

If the above senario (trading back) doesn’t pan out, I believe we’re going to add to the defensive line. I’ve always felt that the closest to the ball you are, the most important the position. Games are won or lost on both sides of the line. Yah – I know; it’s boring, but true. Our DF line is getting old with 3 starters 30 years old or close. We need a young studly big ugly there.

FYI, the Washington Post has produced a fairly good interactive draft history of all 32 teams going back to 1996. Looking at the Bucs, the drafts of 2005, 2010, and 2011 were especially bad for the franchise.

We have two game changers at WR…still need to add some more depth but certainly better looking this year than last and Hump and Brate are also a year better.
OL….has question marks but could actually turn out great with one difference maker there. If Sweezy returns and Benenoch is ready we’re set.
You could do the same thing on D with the only questions coming at safety where we have three who do not seem to turn on the tough JBF crowd. I certainly concede an upgrade is possible…but finding “difference making” safeties is almost impossible because of the limitations of their position which is why they are always on average the lowest paid guys on the team.
So NO safety in the first round please…unless it IS Hooker who will be gone.
But RB….where is the difference maker? Not Martin who in the 40% of his career he actually showed up was just good not great…he didn’t scare anybody with his ability to take it to the house (NONE) and in the beginning he didn’t even bring good pass catching skills. Quizz? Barber? I like them but they are not game changers…although I give Quizz the benefit of the doubt he did flash some last year.
I don’t care when we draft him but I want a game changing RB with the potential to be All Pro. That’s my major desire for this draft. If we get a truly great RB…not just another Martin…I’ll be thrilled.
Doesn’t have to be Dalvin although he seems like an obvious choice to me. But if not…there are some others like Foreman who might at least contribute in a “Beast Mode” sense.

I hate Aguayo’s air that he breathes. I just know what I see and have seen a lot of. I watch a lot of college ball, but if televised I never miss an FSU game.
My assessment of Dalvin Cook can be summed up in rhe two words I said the most while watching him play the last 2 years at FSU and those are…..HOLY SHYTE!

Who was sitting around in 2015 begging for Marpet in the 2nd and Kwon in the 4th round? This is a crapshoot, people…the very definition of gamble. Sitting around in your gym shorts declaring X will be a loser or Y will be a HOFer is interesting locker room talk, but let’s not get carried away and actually start believing your own hype.
Licht is smarter than any of you on here, if for no other reason than the staff he has at his disposal who have thousands of hours to watch tape and dissect every player, and the access he has to said players.

Lots of predictions from so called experts think Mixon will get drafted before Cook, Mixon is just a better prospect, JOE would flip his shyte lol, I hope the Bucs get Mixon in the first, trade back, pick up a 3rd, then select the best RB in this draft, the RB draft experts compare to Leveon Bell and David Johnson! Anyone want a Bell/Johnson clone to grow with our 23 year old QB and WR1? I DO! Dalvin 5’11 210 4.48 40 or Mixon 6’1 228 4.43 40, who’s the better prospect?

Just curious for the sake of debate. I get all the Adoree Jackson love but I’m not sure why him over Curtis Samuel?
They have very similar games but Samuel is more physical and would certainly bring more to our offense. He could line up all over the field and has blazing speed but enough physicality to have also played running back at OSU. He would present DC’s with matchup nightmares and with Koetter’ creativity he could really blossom.

Anyone that thinks Mixon is better than Cook regardless of the incident is insane. The tape doesn’t lie and Cook WILL BE THE BETTER PLAYER and that is regardless of where he ends up. I don’t think the Bucs will take him at this point BUT I am certain they are not taking Mixon as they don’t need someone with that decision making (or lack there of) on this team.

Ndog…the girl Mixon smacked forgave him, does that matter at all? Mixon played this draft process like his botch, first he leaked the video before the end of the season, gave him 2 months to get his apology out of the way, and the public get involved with xmas, New Years, bowl season, NFL playoffs etc..then he crushed his pro day, 6’1 228 4.43…then does the private interviews and meetings, nothing but great reports from those, then settled a civil lawsuit with the girl a week before the draft, and has the girl admit she was also at blame and forgives Mixon….he’s getting drafted before thug life Dalvin Cook…..

ali marpet said secondary and safety on nfl network.. So Id say we draft te round 1 then safety round 2 depending on the draft falls maybe the opposite then round 3 RB or pass rush.. rest of the draft doesnt matter just for depth or learning how to play the positions…

That was good spin, and I don’t mean spin negatively. You laid out your case for Mixon well. I am agnostic when it comes to Mixon vs. Cook. Clear positives and negatives with both. But let’s concentrate on the negatives as the positives are plain to see.
Cook: He’s had 3 shoulder surgeries already. I think this clearly exacerbates what is already a problem: he’s a well documented fumbler. With a gambler at QB we don’t need an unreliable RB. He’s also a low character guy with multiple arrests/warrants. Aside from Jimbo Fisher who almost certainly feels a duty to do so what adult has stood up for his character?
Mixon: clearly there are some character issues. But as Guzzie pointed out, his representation has spun the he11 out of all of this, culminating in a big win with the settlement and the positive remarks from the victim. Aside from the video this doesn’t sound a whole lot worse than what our QB went through, better in some respects.
Likely we end up with neither. But it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Get ya Jackson is obviously a defensive player but I’m not sure he’s not going to be a Devin Hester type and play all over the field.
Same for Samuel just with more offense…and I hope we are building the greatest offense to ever play in the NFL! I want us to shoot high. We’ve had one of the all time great defenses…probably top five at least…now I’d like us to field the greatest offense ever and just go out and crush the competition. I know we’ll need defense for the playoffs but if an offense can really cook you can send a message early in the regular season and then hope our D is championship caliber.

I’ve jumped on a few bandwagons this offseason… but I guess this is the one that counts. If Cook is there just get him. If Barnett is there just get him. If both are there I have to say Barnett (this one is the most unlikely imo). If neither of them is there, go defense bpa (unless it’s a cb).

I’m a big nole fan but I say this with put bias truthfully. Davin Cook is a stud. If he is there at 19 I say take him. Game changer! He is Warrick Dunn V2 and I must say a much more polished version of dunn!
On a side note I do not want a safety if they decide to pass on cook. Safety is only position I an praying we don’t take in 1st round honestly! No bang for buck IMO!

Some of these guys listed in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds might slip into the round above or be gone by the time we pick – so please don’t beat me up over the positioning. Mocks are all over the place with quite a few of these players.

19 is not hard to sell at all. Team will want to jump up for these QBs. Houston, KC, Seattle (for O line) if we move with Houston,keep in mind that they don’t have a 2nd this year. So idk what that means as far as compensation for moving up, but it could be a factor.

It’s ridicilous to me to see many fans”dream” drafts are going WR and RB at the top. Heck some are taking it far enough to get a TE, RB, WR………Even saw a few fans wanting us to draft 2 RBs with our high end picks. That’s comical.
Are you guys forgetting about the other side of the ball. Or is it because defensive players don’t score many fantasy points and they don’t make many SportsCenter highlights. I hate to smash y’all’s dreams but our GM is trying to build a Championship team, not win a beauty contest with skill position players.
Did you guys even watch our win vs Seattle last year? We squared up to that team, punched them in the mouth and pushed them all over the field. We inflicted pain on them and they backed off. We won mainly because our nonskill positions won their fight. Now look at the game in Dallas and it was the same dam thing. Except this time is was our team getting their amazes handed to them.
Both those games had one major factor in common. These were games among 2 contending teams fighting for supremecy. In these games you better have more to brag about then 1000yd players and 4.2 dash times…….that won’t never cut it and it never has.
We got some big games on our schedule this and if you think for a second New England, New York or Green Bay is going to worry about a team built primarily of skill players I got news for ya. Those teams aren’t going to look at our tape against a garbage SF team and see Evans lighting it up………They are going to dwell on the Cowboys tape and find out which players in Tampa aren’t man enough and they will be licking their chops.

Mike goat….Mixon is my favorite back this year, but my next favorite is Brian Hill, he’s nowhere near the athlete David Johnson is, that guys on a different level than most, but getting Hill in the 3rd would be the best draft value considering the impact players you could draft the first 2 rounds, so many starting caliber RBs, would be a typical Bucs move drafting Cook in the first….Cook is going to get Licht fired, especially after taking VH3 and that kicker

That said- heres what I think will happen.
Mock draft 3/28/17
1. DE Taco Charlton. Pass rusher!!
2. WR Zay Jones. Another great weapon.
3. RB Marlon Mack. Replaces The undependable Doug Martin
4. TE Eric Saubert. To team with Cameron Brate
5. S Fish Smithson. Free safety with skills to start.
6. (R) OT Zach Banner. Coach Warhop will make him a starter
7. CB Dez Lawrence. Has an honest shot to make the team
Joe should give out a jersey or somrthing- for the guy whos draft is closest to the Bucs.
If they trade out of first round- we re-mock for tomorrow night.

And I aren’t saying that to advocate against drafting RB or whatever in round 1. They should and surely will stay true to their board. But they absolutely must keep the none skilled position on their radar and need to come home from Philly with some high end Beef to go with RB/WR.

87 we got plenty of holes to fill just as any other team. our lines on both sides could really use some help specifically. The Oline just needs some depth but our Dline is not any bit close to where we need to be. You’ll never win with the Dline we had in 2016, never

Our edge rushers consist of a guy who wants to play Linebacker……I mean the dude has a 50s jersey for earns sake. A guy who is over his prime and not a pass rush specialist and a guy who can’t stay on the field without getting winded all while averaging 25 snaps per year.
If they don’t do something to help our edge rushers we are going down the toilet. And no, hoping Spence will break out and Ayers transforms himself and that other dude even makes it out of camp uninjured does not count as help

As long as we don’t draft any Michigan players or O lineman in the 1st I’ll be happy. Taco is NOT a pass rusher, he is a base end with SLIGHT pass rush ability. And Peppers had some watery “P” so he is out of the 1st more than likely. And these O lineman are god awful. The best if these guys would have been late 2nd rounders last year. No value there

I expect us to be playing with the lead a lot this year which puts a premium on safety and edge rushers for us. As a nole I love cook but might be too expensive at 19. Lets see if Harris is available or a a safety. Then take Mixon in the 2nd or 3rd if he we think he has been removed from everyone’s draft board.

The more I think of it the more sense Trubisky makes. He’s not ready to play day one anyway. So MG8 plays and if he can hold off Trubisky the job is his…if not…see ya! But I do not expect Trubisky to challenge this year. They’ll bring him along slowly..only 13 starts. MG8 at least has a chance to put something on tape this year…more than he got as a Buc.

I think this early trade will keep the trades coming with only one of the projected QBs left on the board. I doesn’t matter if there’s 20 RBs that are Pro-ready… this is a QB league right now. ASJ, when healthy and not in jail, was an extremely valuable player for the Bucs. Having OJ take that role, that’s pretty exciting – the Bucs offense in 2015 was 5th in the league and Winston loves to use the TE. Brate is a nice player but he was an UDFA for a reason, he can’t get separation – he does catch balls but he wasn’t making those plays like ASJ did when Winston would just throw the ball up. OJ is even bigger than ASJ and has better speed – this could be a huge deal, if you take ASJ’s on field play, hopefully get rid of the knucklehead plays and the drops, and add back in the acrobat plays – man… Exciting. Brate can be a 2nd TE and with Brate, OJ and Evans at the goalline, they got some weapons.

PR Bucs fan you know I also liked Njoku a lot but at the end of the day OJ is like Greg Olsen and Njoku is like Jimmy Graham OJ is more valuable because he has the blocking ability to stay on the field in multiple packages and the defense has to account for him as a receiver even when he is set up to block for a RB or whatever. He is a sure bet all pro textbook physical TE and he wasn’t even featured a lot at Alabama so OJ was the pick NJOKU is a BEAST though. Who knows Toss up I liked Njoku too a little higher ceiling but more risk

OJ is the next Olsen. Way too many similarities between the 2 guys. We got a stud that’s for certain. Hope we get a Safety, RB, and DE with our next picks. Tomorrow is going to be amazing. I have faith in Licht to get us at least an extra 3rd tomorrow or 2 studs with our original picks. Can’t wait!!

I saw one mock (Fox Sports) where the Bucs passed Cook at 50.
If we must take a RB tomorrow, I hope it’s in the 3rd round, leaving us to help the defensive line or secondary in the 2nd round.

I do think taking OJ will cause us to not draft a WR now. We can resign VJax and have a great core. Evans, DJax, Hump, VJax, Howard, and Brate. Not to mention Derl Walker,who could be good after watching some of his tape and even Cecil Shorts. We also need an offensive lineman who can play multiple positions. Gonna be a great next couple of days!! Go BUCS!!

I stumped for O.J. right from the start and explained that Jameis loves 2-TE sets and that OJ Howard would be the best possible pick as he is a true 3-down TE that never needs to come of the field … however I didn’t actually think he would still be on the board at #19 as the chatter was he could go high as #4 or at the lowest #10.
OJ is the type of player that could be with Jameis for the next 10+ years, have a HOF career and be one of the best TE’s to ever play the game!
I AM STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, I will say that if we get Cook or JOE MIXON, we could have the scariest, most talented, most dynamic and flat-out BEST group of 5 skill players in the entire NFL.
Mike Evans and D-Jax on the outside with OJ and Brate on the line and either Cook or Mixon in the backfield … NO DEFENSE COULD MATCH UP WITH THAT … that would be sick!!!!!
