So where will Mike Glennon end up?
It is a quarterback-driven league, this NFL. So some believe Glennon is a talented quarterback, though curiously the Bucs apparently didn’t get many quality trade nibbles for him.
He could be a coveted catch come free agency. But how coveted?
Sam Monson of the PFF tribe believes quite a bit. In fact, Monson is of the mind Glennon is the No. 4 quarterback available for a QB-needy team.
Perpetually brought up in these conversations, Mike Glennon’s reputation was built on 13 games of average play in 2013—a performance that was good enough for the Bucs to hand the job the next year to Josh McCown, a journeyman fresh off the back of the only quality stretch of play in his career for the Bears. Glennon played another six games in 2014 and was the same inconsistent player—capable of big games and terrible ones—before taking a seat to watch the Jameis Winston era from the bench. Glennon has flashed talent, and from a clean pocket, his passer rating in 2013 and 2014 was over 100.0 each year, but he wilts under pressure, completing just 42.9 percent of his passes over those two seasons when hurried, and throwing one more touchdown (10) than interceptions (nine) on those passes.
That list is gnarly if you ask Joe. So Glennon is just ranked ahead of horrid Brian Hoyer? Ouch.
And Joe is being just honest: How in the world can anyone say Glennon is a better quarterback than A.J. McCarron? While McCarron’s career starts are a much smaller sample size than Glennon’s, McCarron has better numbers and he should have a playoff win on his resumé if he didn’t play with a collection of knuckleheads for teammates on defense.

Everyone thought Mike Smith was gone. Glennon could be back here next year as a highly paid backup. Good teams have those.

I would not be surprised if NFL GM Licht does not have a contract ready on his table to be signed for 8 million a year until JW3 contract comes up!!!!!!!
From all reports MG8 is very smart and helpful in the film and meeting rooms, gets along great with JW3!!!!! Hopefully as a Buc fan, I hope he stays!!!!!!

@Buc Realist… All that sounds good. But I would NEVER never NEVER ever want to see him on the field again. He sucks. PERIOD. I’m a big a BUC fan as any… That’s why I want him gone. Pressure bust pipes, especially skinny ones like the giraffe.

I can see him getting a chance with teams like the Jets, 49ers, Bills if they move on from Tyrod Taylor, Bears maybe. Any team that would be in a position to draft a QB early could target him. I dont see a reason for the Bucs to resign him nor do I think je wants to resign here. Im sure he wants a chance to compete for a starting job and thats not in Tampa.

I agree. The one good thing about Glennon is you know what you got. I wish he could go on to be a starter but I doubt if that happens. However a good back-up QB is like money in the bank in a QB dominant league. Mike knows the system, has always accepted his role, played marginally well when he was called on and never sought to be something he was not. I realize no one knows his fate right now, but a good back-up has saved many teams season. I would not mind having him back next year for the right price.

And so riddle me this…if a QB has average play on a HORRIBLE team doesn’t that say something? If he led his team to two more wins than his sorry defensive minded HC could protect doesn’t that mean something.
Glennon had two more wins for the Bucs in Seattle…against a SB winning team…and in NO. Schiano stopped the hurry up offense that was working so well because….wait for it….they hadn’t practiced it. You can’t make up stupidity that deep. In NO it was just a garden variety Buc D collapse.
Does anybody else notice the irony…under two defensive minded head coaches our D sucked…we hire an offensive minded coach who simply goes out and hires a QUALIFIED DC and voila…we see improvement.
I get the MG8 hate…I simply do not share it. Not a member of the MGMOB though either. I prefer a wait and see…one thing I do believe…is that he deserves a chance after having it rammed up his posterior without any lube by moronic Lovie. Playing Josh McCown stands out as one of the all time bone headed moves given where the franchise was at the time…not a serious competitor…WE should have found out MG8’s actual value instead of letting another team learn it. Might not bite us if MG8 sucks as badly as people say but if he is successful it will be just another tribute to the career of Lovie with the Bucs…we COULD have found out.

All of Glennon’s recent film for the past couple seasons (mainly preseason) has been very poor other than like 1 outing.
That is the main reason for the lack of demand for him.

If Mike Glennon was so good, teams would have been beating Jason Licht door down trying to trade for him. Glennon had the opportunity to win the job over Josh Freeman, Josh McCown, Jameis Winston. But the the fact is that he have always stunk the field during preseason.

I think the situations in Houston and New York are clearly impacting Glennon right now. I think he leaves for a QB starved team and serves as a bridge player. Teams are likely waiting to see more from the QBs are the combine as well given the perceived weakness of the QBs in this draft class

St Pete go back and watch some film with Glennon. Watch a lot of it. He is not a good QB and I don’t understand the love he gets from so many fans here. The stats regarding how he performs when pressured tell it all. It was painful to watch and that is why Lovie didn’t even consider starting Glennon over McCown. He knew he had two bad QBs and there were no good options. To act like he went with McCown when there was this stud QB on the bench is absurd. It reminded me of the big debate years earlier when they were trying to decide who to start, his brother Luke or Leftwich. In both instances I knew we were screwed because they were all garbage QBs.

Good analysis St Pete. We are constantly reminding ourselves that JW is young and to expect growing pains (inaccuracy, INT’s) and he is a number one pick not a 4th rounder. Glennon’s first 18 games of work for a poor team is at least comparable if not better than most QBs that are starting right now in the league.
I can’t wait til he leaves so he gets a chance. I wish him well, and feel like he did everything asked of him here.

That was true. There was no #weaponsforGlennon.
We we’re told that was no excuse.

In Glennon’s rookie season, the college coach did a good job of creating confidence with short dink and donk passes of 5 to 6 yards. This made the stats look really good for Glennon.
Nonetheless, Glennon had an awful tradition of hitting CB’s in their backs when throwing deep balls. It was baffling how DCs did not planned on picking Glennon’s passes on those deep balls.
He played well against the Steelers. And yes, he has thrown some deep passes on target. But they were not many. Accuracy was not there on most deep passes.
Glennon might end up back as a Buccaneer, if there are no takers for him to compete as a starter.
Jason Light will be smart and let him test free agency knowing he will be available to sign a very inexpensive clipboard contract.
But you know, I love were we are as a team right now. I’m grateful for how everything turned out in the past…… Licht, Smitty, Jameis and Koetter are in town…..Life is Good!!!!!!!

@ TDTB – I am always amazed at fans that talk glowingly about him. I remember how far off he usually was on deep balls. The majority were not even close to being completions. He did just dink and dunk and melted completely when pressured. I honestly don’t even think he is special as a back up. I mean I guess I would take him if he can be had cheaply. If we need him for an extended period at any point most agree, even many of his fans, that the season is over. Why on earth would any GM put his fate in Glennon’s hands. Look at the list of back ups that teams try to convert into saviors and you will see failure after failure.

I don’t think Glennon gets enough credit. He never gets the, “he was a rookie” excuse that quarterbacks universally get. The next games he gets to start, he does it with out an offensive coordinator, and sleepy Lovie Smith as his head coach. Even still he clearly outplayed Josh McCown that year. Everyone could see it, except Lovie. I’ll concede, he’s not as talented as Jameis, but he definitely could start in this league. I hope he doesn’t though and we resign him.

We need Glennon back next year. Or, at least a Glennon-quality backup. Hoping not, but realistically Jameis will go down with an injury, and be out 2-3 games, maybe a whole season. Someday it will happen, and maybe at a point in the season where we are 1-2 games from clinching a playoff spot. So, those who dislike Glennon, okay, but be ready with a replacement who we will surely need.

I still don’t see why everyone feels that Glennon is such a GREAT backup? What has he done to warrant such a title?
When McCown went down, the “great” backup went 1-3. In the preseason, against players that we’ve never heard of and might even be out of the league at this point, he didn’t do anything too impressive.
Honestly, I don’t think there’s that much of a drop-off from him to Ryan Griffen.

Qbs ahead of glennon is tyrod taylor bc of his premier running ability tony romo for his pro bowl appearances and jimmy garrapollo tom brady’s understudy then glennon then hoyer. The top 3 arent very bad. We like to give romo sh!t bc he was a cowboy but truth is he is a decent qb. I like glennon n wish him well. Mccown no doubt took the money to give us the top pick in the draft. That was strategy. Too bad lovie couldnt get his side of the ball to play any better the following year to save his job. Glennon might surprise some people if he lands with a decent oc. He has a nice deep pass, i’d like to see him get comfortable n pull the trigger on those more often, his underneath n mid routes should open up in a result.

McCarron had much more talent on his teams from top to bottom. very strong defense, top 5 WR (which neither VJax nor Evans was during Glennon’s time) in his prime, decent OL, and a deep stable of offensive weapons behind the stud

it’s unfair to evaluate Glennon without giving at least a little bit of weight to the wasteland of talent, culture of dejection, and sub-mediocre coaching going on around him in 2013 and 2014.
