Window Narrow For Raheem and Dominik

Some suggest Bucs bust-in-waiting quarterback Josh Freeman has two season to turn around the Bucs.

Some suggest Bucs bust-in-waiting quarterback Josh Freeman has two seasons to turn around the Bucs.

One of the myriad of reasons why Joe was loathe for the Bucs to select bust-in-waiting quarterback Josh Freeman was that the selection would likely doom Raheem the Dream’s career and possibly set the Bucs back six years.

Face it, if — as Joe fears — Freeman is a bust, whatever coach replaces Raheem the Dream sure as hell won’t want him. Then the Bucs are back to square-one with a quarterback.

Speculated in the Buccaneers Team Report on Yahoo! Sports, the window Freeman, and indirectly Raheem the Dream and general manager Mark Dominik, have to turn around the Bucs will be a grand total of two seasons.

The Bucs’ initial plan was to bring Freeman along slowly. But first-year head coach Raheem Morris and first-year Mark Dominik might have about a two-year window to turn the team into winners again after ridding the team of many veterans, including linebackers Derrick Brooks and Cato June and running back Warrick Dunn.

The sooner Freeman gets on the field and proves he can be a franchise quarterback, the better the odds Morris and Dominik will plant roots in their current positions.

Two years seems like short time but it wouldn’t surprise Joe one bit. Think about it: if the Bucs continue to struggle and show little if any progress through the 2010 season, and coaches like Bill Cowher and Mike Shanahan are still available, Joe can easily see the Glazer Boys pulling the trigger, especially if Chucky is coaching again.

Chucky, by the way, is on the Glazer Boys’ payroll through 2011 unless he finds work elsewhere in the NFL.

And before Joe is pelted with nasty comments and e-mail, please know Joe prays he is wrong about Freeman.  He seems like a nice kid. As Joe has stated before, if Freeman makes a Pro Bowl, Joe will buy his jersey.

Joe promises!

I would agree that the window is narrow, but I feel he would get a third season. Unless completely bombing.

  2. Mr. Chucky Says:

Hey what’s wrong with having Gruden on the payroll until 2011? Who’s the only coach to bring home the Lombardi trophy to the Bay area anyway? When I came I took lemons and made lemonade and now?

Gruden was the best thing to happen to the Bucs since …well…ever! You’ll see on MNF how well I do.

PS. I wouldn’t work for the Glazers in the near or long-term future. 😉

PPS. Those other coaches you mentioned would NEVER come to Tampa and live in Gruden’s shadow.

  3. Chris Says:

How about this Joe: If Freeman makes a Pro Bowl Joe will cease referring to himself in the third person?

  4. Joe Says:

    Mr. Chucky:

Joe hopes you become a regular poster now that we are on the cusp of a new football season.

    Chris:

Joe understands your pain. But if Joe wouldn’t refer to himself in the third person, Joe wouldn’t be much more different than the MSM outlets or a former roommate of Mark Dominik’s.

Unlike an old soilder, Joe doesn’t want to fade away.

Your fears regarding Freeman are justified. This was a pick made with emotion and personal feelings. I’ve seen nothing from Freeman in college that would indicate he’s a potential franchise QB. As is well documented, he was ranked in the bottom half of Big 12 QB’s. Raheem was smitten, and Dominik was/is to weak to make the tough call. It’s to bad, I like Morris as a coach but think this will be his undoing. Can’t say the same about Dominik, he should have taken control of the situation and told Morris there’s NO franchise QB to be had in ’09, lets wait til ’10. Dominik is in over his head!

I’ll buy any Bucs’ player’s jersey, if any make the pro-bowl.

wow !!! it’s so touching to know that Joe wuvs Rah, Dominik and Freeman(make that bust in waiting Freeman) so much. wiping tear, wiping tears and blowing nose , wiping tears ,blowing nose and gagging now!!! I feel better now.

  8. TpaBayFlyFisher Says:

Fly thinks that Joe should continue to refer to himself in the third-person. In fact, Fly feels that everyone should do so!

  9. Joe Says:

    Thank you Fly!

At least Joe runs an interactive site where you can get a response. Often times, they even make sense. TBO was a decent blogging site, but it is now overrun by idiots, and the reporters really should start drinking more. Their articles are just complete garbage. TambaBay, well they’re all on vacation now, but Stephen Holder does an excellent job. Strowd can be very defensive of his garbage and downright scrappy with some of the bloggers. He really got lucky calling that Freeman pick. I’m still upset they picked that Guy. Even more upset that those morons got it right. We could have had a SERIOUS DEFENSIVE END at 19, and not moved up…or Percy Harvin…Anybody…Somebody…but not another QB. I hope I’m wrong and this kid can play….soon, or it’s just another wasted pick.

  11. Joe Says:

    >>> the reporters really should start drinking more. <<<

That’s really not a bad thing.

  12. Joe Says:

Oh, and thank you for the compliments BigMacAttack!

Mr. Chucky you are an idiot! Do you really think Sucky could have won the Superbowl without the team dungy built. Chucky din’t turn water into wine. As so many of you dumbass Chucky “nut huggers” think. The fact that he completely dismantled a Superbowl winning team. And did nothing but get crushed in the 1st round of the playoffs. When they did make them. Mr. Chucky did you think that maybe the reason the Buc’s won the Superbowl against Gruden’s old team. Is that the Raiders still used the same calls on offense. The QB for Raiders was broken down for the Buc’s “D” by Gruden didn’t help either.

  14. BigMacAttack Says:

    MTM = Clueless

It’s OK to hate Chucky, but there is not one coherent thought in your entire rant.

Maybe you should watch the Rays.

  15. MTM Says:

    BigMacAttack= Tard.
And you have been watching what the last 5 years. Get over the Chucky won us a Superbowl B.S. It not a lifetime pass. Its ok you can still pull out your Chucky doll when Gruden is on MNF. And tell yourself it all the Glazers fault.

  16. oar Says:

MTM, you are friggn fuuuny! First you saying the ole “Gruden won with Dungy’s team” is old, cause I could say “Callahan got there with Gruden’s team”(the Raiders were in the AFC Championship 2 years in row 2000-2001) Second you do realize Gruden brought in 27 new players that SB year? You do realize Alsott, A couple of O-linemen, K Johnson and B Johnson were the only players on offense from Dungy days? Yes it was Kiffins(Dungy’s) defense but Gruden made the offense accountable. They won the SB!
QB broke for Raiders? He had 4600+yds 26tds and 10int with 11-5 record, what was broke? Gruden turned Gannon career around.
Whatever you can hate if you want. We won the big one so that’s all cool with me.
BTW you are right it was 7 years ago GET OVER IT and enjoy the fact we were Champions!

It is always fun bantering with the people on this site.
