Report: McCoy Said, “It Probably Wasn’t A Great Idea, Very Smart Of [Me] To Go Back In The Game.”

December 8th, 2014

gerald mccoy 0916Gerald McCoy went down on the field in the first quarter yesterday with a knee injury.

ProFootballTalk.com claimed it was a dislocated kneecap.

In this WDAE-AM 620 audio below, Bucs beat writer and WDAE host Rick Stroud talked this morning about his postgame conversation with McCoy. He shared that McCoy told him, ‘It probably wasn’t a great idea, very smart of him to go back in the game.”

Joe wrote about the insanity of McCoy returning yesterday — for a 2-10 football team on turf.

You can hear Stroud’s full conversation below, via the 620wdae.com audio player.

It was insanely idiotic. Coaches have to be smarter than that, a win for 3-10 at the risk of our best or second best player’s health is insanity. Not worth the risk at all.

  2. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

No additional damage was done, right?

No biggy. Just put him on IR now, let his knee and hand heal up. I know he wanted double digits this year, but better he get healthy.

  3. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Of course, part of the reason I say that is because without him we will pretty much be sure of losing out all the remaining games.

It’s no biggie? That’s a pretty smug and misguided response.

So you know that no additional damage was done without knowing what the extent of original injury was? Thanks Dr. Bonsai! They put a $100M franchise player at risk for nothing.

  5. theodore Says:

I’d try to get myself onto IR too.

  6. Skelly Says:

Please. Please. oh Please…. Shut GMC down, Shut Lavonte down. We have the #1 pick locked. Only we can screw it up. Lets start next year at full strenght with a shiny new QB.

  7. RastaMon Says:

IR …and start raiding practice squads

  8. Phillip Says:

He probably won’t know if any additional damage was done till a MRI is done… Dumb move to come back but that’s why he is the player he is today…

Shut those moronic “fans” up that say he is soft and those who say we still would be better with Suh or shouldn’t have signed him to that big of a contract..

  9. DHutch Says:

GET HIM OUTTA THERE. This season is a wash.

  10. road warrior Says:

I wouldn’t draft either winston or mariota. winston= vince young or jamarcus russell and mariota =mike vick or rgIII.this would set us back 5 years. Just because we need a Qb doesn’t mean we take a chance on one of these two. I hope I’m wrong.

  11. biff barker Says:

Road Warrior, Agree on Winston’s character issues but unsure if Mariotta is trying to win games with his legs like Vick or RGIII. Mariotta reminds me more of a Wilson or Kapernick. Jist trying to extend plays with his legs.

I would have opted for Bortles or Carr last year and let the Cannon play this year.

  12. pick6 Says:

mccoy to IR. Lavonte to IR. don’t give them a choice or a chance to be foolish. evaluate. mason foster to SAM with Lemon at Will and lansanah at Mike. get Bowers, Gholston, and spence playing many more snaps on the interior of the DL. if they shine, our depth along the defense looks better going into the offseason. if they don’t, we keep losing games. whoops

  13. Reezy Says:

Pick6, you are absolutely correct. Give the guys who are backups or need more time as starters to properly evaluate them. But then again this is the Bucs we are talking about they couldn’t evaluate a ham sandwich.

  14. buddha Says:

We don’t have the #1 pick locked. If Atlanta beats Green Bay tonight coin flip unless Tennessee beats the Jets next week.

  15. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Buddha, way to early to be penciling in the #1 spot for sure! This is One Buc Place we are talking about and if the best thing the club can do is lose out, well then they just may pull off a win or tie vs Carolina or New Orleans to drop back a few slots in the draft order. So I guess we better pull for the Titans to beat the Jags later this year and let the Jets beat the Titans this Sunday, that way they both have at least 3 wins and only have the Jags and Raiders sitting @ 2 wins…. And you can bet how a coin flip will work out for our cursed Bucs if it goes that far with the Bucs and Titans!
