Keeping Ted Hurst “Rolling”

October 3rd, 2026

Ted Hurst celebrates as he crosses the goal line on his first NFL touchdown catch, 40 yards from Baker Mayfield last Sunday.

Don’t look now, but the biggest home run hitter in the Bucs passing game is a rookie.

Ted Hurst has only six catches through three games but leads the Bucs with 17 yards per catch.

And with Jalen McMillan out for maybe the next two months, Hurst will see even more snaps.

So if the Bucs turn turn this season around, specifically get their offense kick-started, Hurst is likely to play a significant role in the revival.

This had Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson singing a the same song this week about getting Hurst more touches (sound familiar Sean Tucker?).

“We’ve got to keep Ted rolling,” Robinson said. “He’s done a great job, man. I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Hurst scored his first touchdown after a sweet pitch-and-catch (40 yards) from Baker Mayfield, pulling within three points, 10-7 of Minnesota.

Joe saw Hurst make excellent catches just about every day in training camp. Solid, contested 10-20 yard grabs. Daily. Maybe Robinson can use Hurst that way once in a while rather than just bombs to Hurst.

“It was great to see his first touchdown on that – it was a big play,” Robinson said. “We needed a spark.”

Robinson was firm that he has to get Hurst gets more action.

Might be easier said than done. Joe has a hunch Jalon Daniels, making his first NFL start tomorrow, will have a ton on his mind other than getting Hurst the ball more.

    Well!
First you need to throw him the ball.
Good thing is that JD and TH had lots of practice time together for these past months.

If the O line can buy the kid some time, he will be fine. He goes through his reads and delivers decisively.

    In reference to Daniels…

Gonna be interesting if Jalon even has time to find an open receiver. O line has to know they are gonna see every blitz known to man. Hope all are ready.

On the other hand if Zac can provide the rookie with a couple of gotcha blitz beaters? They may decide to play it a bit differently. We shall see.

    Go Bucs!

Holy cow! Did a 3rd grader write this? Seriously, if you need a proof-reader email me the draft and I will clean it up for you. It’s almost incomprehensible as it is.

Well, if you’re going to ignore Godwin, someone else is bound to benefit. I can’t wait for the day when a coach uses our star players to the fullest extent of their capabilities. Godwin, Winfield, and (probably) Trotter.

Remember when so many whined when many of us rightfully called out that we had injury prone WRs, mainly Jmac?

If we were a well coached, competitive team, drafting hurst might have been a season saver (like we might have still won 8 games). Even tho we are horrible in going to have fun watching Ted develop. Hes going to be good when we get a head coach that understands offensive football.

Daniels to Hurst Touchdown! Who knows ?

  10. Lakeland Says:

Ted Hurst has 6 receptions on 13 targets
Chris Godwin has 10 receptions on 12 targets

Hurst is catching less than 50% of his targets
Meanwhile Godwin is catching over 80% of his targets

They need to get the ball to Godwin out of the slot
Godwin should be getting at least 8 targets a game

  11. Will Says:

    I agree with @ Lakeland
    re: Godwin.

  12. Bojim Says:

They’ll throw bombs to him all day. Gaaaaa

  13. D-Rok Says:

With Hurst, instead of go routes, dial up a few 12-15 yard outs, curls, hitches, crossers. Only do the 9 route 2-3 times a game.

Heck, they could even try a few 8-10 yard quick slants, from motion of course.

There, did the “get Hurst more involved” install.

    YW Coaches.

This Oc needs to remember that we’re not drawing up plays in the dirt. The team paid you because of pedigree, apparently some dog got in the pen. Where’s Grizz?
