Baker Mayfield Sits Out Practice; Won’t Be Used As Backup If Not 100 Percent Healthy

The fearless leader of the Buccaneers, big-money quarterback Baker Mayfield, did not practice today.
“Nothing’s changed. He’s getting better,” Bowles said of Mayfield.
Bowles said Mayfield will try to throw this afternoon and the Bucs will evalute what they see.
What that really means is unclear. Could Mayfield be in play for Sunday against the Steelers? It seems unlikely but Bowles didn’t rule anything out.
Joe asked Bowles if Mayfield could serve as a backup Sunday if he’s not quite ready but is close.
“If he’s not 100 percent, he doesn’t need to play,” Bowles replied.
Joe would give Mayfield a 5 percent of playing Sunday.

I’ll be glad when Baker is ready. All the hype over Daniels is crazy. It can easily get real ugly. Hope it doesn’t happen, but come on.

I like everything about Jalon Daniels being our QB1 more than I do with Baker as QB1.
Daniels gives us a better chance to win moving forward.

If Jaylon keeps the winning going how do you sit the “ hot “ hand ? 55 million be damned ! It’s all about the “ W “ so Bowles has said this season already . Glazers better take pause …… Bowles has already earned a ride out of town ! Let us see what Jakob can do . Does anyone really believe we have a shot at post season play at this point ? Outside of Arians and Brady working their magic this team has disappointed far ,far to long ! Since letting Gruden go ( justifiably so ) this team has sputters along ! Baker is 0-3 this year he ain’t done nothing since last year the before the Patriots game. And all we heard was watch when he’s healthy he’s going to ball out even though he wasn’t injured last year like people said and they blamed the defense because Baker couldn’t close out games. And now he’s 0-3 with a top 5 defense but he’s a franchise quarterback !!

Neither QB has exactly lit it up. Primary difference is the o-line finally played a little better vs Dallas, which allowed Bucky to go wild.
This team will go exactly as far as the guys in the trenches allow it to.

Keep coaching Bake, thats where you’re really “valuable”. In the meantime let’s keep seeing what Daniels can do. He played calm under pressure and took what the defense gave him. He didn’t take unnecessary sacks and was accurate outside a few throws. The offense was actually fun to watch not seeing them go 3 and out. Seeing long TD scoring drives was beautiful.
If Daniels wins again by playing great this weekend he’ll be 2-1 in his first 3 starts with 2 more wins than the $165 million dollar starting QB. It will be a full blown QB controversy and Bowles will have an interesting decision to make.
I don’t see Bowles benching the QB thats saving his job but who knows. If Daniels keep winning that thumb injury could “need more time to heal.”

I do not see the need for a “quarterback controversy”. Let us go with Jalon Daniels as long as it takes to get Baker’s thumb healed completely. The keyword is “completely”.

The anti Baker crowd headed by Middling Munch needs to be reminded of the NFL QB who has thrown the second most TD passes in the last 3 full seasons.
Please impose a minimum IQ threshold to post here. Most of the anti Baker crowd couldn’t cut butter with a hot knife.

Hopefully our head coach learn from his mistake. The mistake had the Glazers knocking on the door for Harbaugh last year.

BM shoukdn’t see the field until he is 100%! Also, can we stop with the JD hype. This kid has a long way to go. I’m not saying he doesn’t have promise as a backup, but this is Shaun King all over again without the Hall of Fame defense under Dungy and Kiffin.

The Bucs should not let Mayfield play until his injury has sufficiently healed. Let Jalon carry the load until then. It will be great experience for him.
