Rueben Bain Wants To Create New Level Of Football

September 7th, 2026

The Miami Mauler edge rusher, Bucs rookie Rueben Bain, has an approach different from many others.

His stunning post-practice work ethic was on display all summer, but his mind works a little differently, too. Joe already shared how Bain has no statistical goals.

Bain also expects to deliver a different level of play, apparently one unknown to mankind.

Speaking on Green Light with Chris Long (Joe listened on SiriusXM), Bain said he is searching for and striving for an unknown ceiling. Asked if he has to feel like he proves himself daily, Bain ran with it.

“Each and every day, because it’s like my high school coach, he always used to be like, ‘It’s what have you done for me lately?” Bain said. “So whatever [a player] did yesterday, [it] don’t matter. Whatever he did last period, don’t matter. Last play, don’t matter. He just gotta be focused on the now and make sure you’re getting the job done.’ Just proving it to myself, you know, understanding that I’m at this high, high level of football, but I want to create different levels of football.”

The Bain era begins in six short days.

Stop with the Miami Mauler thing please. Not a good moniker for an NFL star!

  2. Billy Bob Bubba Bo Baggins Says:

    No surprises!!

  3. JeffreyLane77 Says:

If this defense can find a dominate pass rush the skies the limit for this team. I hope we finally have the peices in place.

  4. MadMax Says:

Get’em Bain!!!! Make us all proud to have selected you, and the others regret for passing on you!!!!

  5. Ballwasher61 Says:

This what un-coached effort looks like, starts from within.

  6. Todd Says:

Bain’s philosophy is “what have you done for me lately?”

Todd Bowles just quietly deleted the 2025 game film.

  7. Simple T Says:

Miami mauler sounds like some WWE sh$t.
I agree with 50 year True fan – stop 🛑

  8. 50 year True fan Says:

Stop the Damn Miami Mauler crap please! I like the Joe Bucs Fan, but that stupid mauler thing does not work!

  9. Lou. Says:

The Missouri Mauler was a bad-guy fixture of the old NWA. Ft. Homer Hesterly Armory. Gordon Solie.

    Good times.

  10. Hodad Says:

Hope he puts QBs in a Miami Vice.

  11. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I really like Bains’ mindset and how it comes across in interviews. Man is all about business. Speaks to his upbringing and you can tell no matter the success that’s got him to this point in his playing career, he stays grounded. Like the Anti-Devin White.

“Stop with the Miami Mauler thing please. Not a good moniker for an NFL star!“

It’s not just good, but it’s actually perfect. Joe should make Bain aware of this moniker, so it can grow legs. Sounds like a boxer from Mike Tyson punch out, or the topic of a give episode of 60 minutes. Bains’ likeness, that moniker on a t-shirt, I’d buy it for $27.99+tax

in miami they are not lazy, they will coach effort. they will put forth effort to get effort. what a novel concept. the coach did not just sit back and say “nothing i can do. i’ve already made it”

  13. Teacherman Says:

    I watched “The Hurricane” today.

    About Rubin “Thé Hurricane” Carter.

I realized how lucky we are to now have

Reuben “Thé Hurricane” Bain on the Buccaneers!

Ànd à quick shout out to Bob Dylan for singing “Thé Hurricane” to try to get Rubin Carter out of jail.

    Reuben “Thé Hurricane” Bain!

    Sounds good to me!

    Go Bucs!

  14. View from Outer Space Says:

High hopes for this kid, but let’s see a first NFL sack first. Hype train is off the rails, as usual.

  15. Allen Lofton Says:

The level of play from College to the NFL is big. Getting to 10 sacks is a big number for a rookie. A play at a time approach doesn’t put undue stress on a NFL rookie. He has the mentality of a Tom Brady. How much more can one say about this rookie. He has the work ethic of TB. That mentality made him the Goat. I’m not putting him up there with TB but if he can create 10 plus sacks each season, than Jason Licht can thank all the teams that drafted before the Bucs for their stupidity

  16. Thonotosassa Says:

Teacherman – Thanks for invoking “Hurricane “. I don’t chime in often as I don’t have the cred for the dog fights here , but when it comes to Dylan I am more confident. Top 5 Dylan tune for me . It smokes ! Everyone give it a listen or a relisten. It’s good fer ya . Now back to the business at hand . In 6 days we go from thinking we know to knowledge. LFG !

  17. It’s brutal out here Says:

Given how much the Climate has changed and our history with injuries, the coaching staff and trainers need to be limiting Bain. He may be in great shape, but if he goes down, it undermines everything on the defensive side. We can’t afford to lose him. Stop treating him like a circus animal.

  18. It’s brutal out here Says:

Look up the temp and humidity data for crying out loud. Do you really think that is a political statement? I moved here in 1987 the extreme temps are undeniable.

  19. Just Saying Says:

Really disliked the mauler moniker. 1 Joe has an affinity for hammering these bad nicknames. This is one I too hope would disappear, unless Bain himself approves. For starters he’s not in Miami anymore.

  20. ir8oldman Says:

The site is called joebucsfan.com.. He can name Bain the Miami Mauler whenever the hell he wants.

Go somewhere else, but then WHO would put up with all these PRIMA DONNA ass commentators then?

IF you don’t get your way, go cry somewhere and welcome to life.

I do like B-Rex though, ngl.

  21. Tampa Bain Says:

I cannot wait to see this guy and the rest of our D cook. Go Bucs

  22. It’s brutal out here Says:

I don’t trust our training staff to keep people hydrated etc. if Bain overdoes it and fatigues his muscles and is lost for the season, then what? He may be a force but he’s still human.

  23. Lakeland Says:

    Reuben Bain gonna be alright

I think he makes an immediate impact on this defense
