More and more Joe sees hatred in the comments on this here website for those beautiful creamsicles the Bucs have been pulling out of mothballs in recent years.
Some like them for the nostalgia. When many Bucs fans first became Bucs fans, it was Doug Williams throwing to Jimmie Giles and Lee Roy Selmon terrorizing quarterbacks wearing the creamsicles.
Some just like the classic style.
Others hated — for good reason — those heinous Jameis Winston alarm clock uniforms. Those things were so ugly it made folks want to puke. The creamsicles, no matter how much people hated them, were significantly better than the alarm clocks, which were a complete eyerake and an affront to Bucs fans.
And, there were those fans who equated creamsicles to losing. The Bucs became the losingest franchise in North America professional sports (the big four: NFL, MLB, NHL and the non-basketball association) wearing the creamsicles.
Chris Godwin wasn’t around for the creamsicles. He was a baby when they were retired.
So for Godwin, who for years was mentally abused and publicly embarrassed while being forced to wear the alarm clocks, the creamsicles are fresh and a welcome change of pace.
As Godwin told Mitch Goldich of SI.com, you won’t hear him badmouthing them.
“We really enjoy the creamsicle jerseys,” Godwin said. “They are so aesthetically pleasing. The white ones (1976 creamsicle road uniforms) are, like we wore them for the first time last year, and those ones are like A-1 sick. And the home ones are just as nice, right?
“Like we’ve we’ve been really really pleased about [the creamsicles]. I think players like a switch up, but I think in terms of like historical jerseys, like classic jerseys, like that’s got to be up there towards the top with some of the best in the league.”
Joe sure won’t argue with that. Last year during Thursday Night Football, Al Michaels said he wouldn’t be opposed if the Bucs returned the creamsicles to full-time home uniforms.
Thankfully, someone at One Buc Palace had the bright idea in 2020 to rid the franchise of the alarm clocks and bring back those Mike Alstott red-and-pewter uniforms. The Bucs should never have changed those.
The Bucs’ current red-and-pewter threads are some of the best in the NFL, but the team doesn’t often go red/pewter. That’s too bad.
Joe can also understand why some fans are worn out on the creamsicles as throwbacks. The Bucs continue the sorry tradition of losing while wearing those. Time to start a new tradition of winning.

I do not think it a coincidence, that last year they made a huge deal about the Jerseys and the Team began to resemble the 1976 Bucs, that me and many other fans from the beginning had to endure watching. Lifeless effort after lifeless effort down the stretch. They Magnified the winless 1976 team, and what do you know, we got the same kind of crap on sundays, LOSSES last year.
Those jerseys have the worst winning percentage of any team during the time they were worn. Enough with celebrating those crappy reminders of many painful sundays.
I do not care who likes what i said. Losing sux and 2/3 of the time, this team lost during those jerseys era.
Thank God, the Bucs changed and took a page from the Tampa Bay Bandits 1983-85 Uniforms starting in 1997. Yes the Bandits had silver pants, but the Super Bowl Bucs Unis are a lot like the Bandits uniforms. And BTW The Bandits were a winning organization. GO BUCS!!!!

I’m fine with the creamsicles as long as nobody brings back those damn alarm-clock jerseys. The creamsicles are like an ex-wife: objectively attractive, historically catastrophic. There are limits to forgiveness. Godwin likes the creamsicles because he’s too young to remember the trauma. That said, the Bucs start winning regularly in creamsicles, Tampa historians are gonna need therapy just to process the contradiction.

Creamsicle’s are awesome. Not a big fan of the shiny orange pants and white jersey of the early 90’s though, never wear those.

Too bad the team wears these creamsicles for prime time games and Bowles usually embarrasses himself as does Baker during these games, 2 dash 9 under the light with Bowles as HC and Baker as QB. If the Glazers wanted to make coin in 2027, instead of promoting a creamsicle throwback night, host a creamsicle burning night to excise the curse, fans get free beer or vouchers toward new jerseys for getting rid of Bucco Bruce. Have Bruce officially retire to Key West with his “partner”. Definitely do this if Bowles does get fired after this season.

I’ve been a fan since Day 1 and have PTSD from the Creamsicles. Those first couple of years were brutal. That said, I do like the looks of the white 1976 Creamsicle road uniforms, especially for hot day-games. I still think the Creamsicles are bad luck.

Been with the Bucs since 76. We lost a lot with those jerseys. So when we lose with them now, we’ll you know. I think they are great. I have some memorable from those days. There were good memories too you know. And like Joe said, let’s win with those jerseys.

Color of the uniforms doesn’t matter. We lose cuz we’re playing better teams and we’re not playing good enough to beat them.
I’m not superstitious, I don’t think the color uniform matters. It’s just a timing thing.
Let’s wear them for the next home opener game one.
Don’t the Bucs have a pretty good record there?
I also like the throwbacks (creamsicle and white or all white) and the all pewters. Fun change ups.

We were the laughing stock of not only the NFL, but the entire professional sporting world. The Bucs can’t even win in modern day NFL with those on, but let’s bring back those Mandarin orange uniforms. I guess they’ll look good losing!

Pewter pants and white jerseys next.
Current and pre-alarm clocks look too much like Atlanta (red jersey-white pants). Sometimes you need to look at the helmets to distinguish the difference.
Alarms are by far the worst-a true “what were they thinking” moment.
For those who loathe the creamsicle due to them representing losing; it ain’t the uni, it’s the player wearing it!

Orange jersey, sure, cool. Bucco Bruce? Absolutely not. Worst logo in sports history.
Now if they brought back the orange with the current logo, color matched, maybe they’d be on to something.

@KABucs…the correct comment. Players aren’t buying the curses. Showing up and playing your brand or whatever the good brand of football is what changes that perception. We’re not losing flukish games in them, we’re just playing bad football. We got 2 wins in the all-white last season, one a big win in Seattle, and now that’s the good uniform, yet when worn for the first time was one of the worst Bucs seasons in history.

It was so fitting that 3 & 28 and 4 & 14 happened in creamsicle. I mean, what a fantastic showcase it was to throw it back, during the 50 Seasons celebration no less, to how it used to be.
The orange uniforms and Bucco Bruce have never been the problem- it’s the men on and behind the bench.

I agree with Chris 100%. Those orange jerseys, especially, caught my eye when I was 10 & are the main reason I became a Bucs fan (I didn’t watch a lot of the NFL in the years before that). I hate the fact that they have lost 7 of the 8 orange throwback games since 2009. And I think the NFL was silly for the rule that didn’t allow them to wear those awesome uniforms because of the helmet nonsense; it’s a little sad, to me, that Brady & the team didn’t get to wear them during the Super Bowl year – that would have been a lot more wins in them with Brady. I agree that it does not matter what the colors are. I like the current uniforms. I got used to the change in 1997 pretty quickly, but I wouldn’t be mad if they went back to the old ones & made the current ones the throwbacks.

creamsicles need to die. burn them all. I get why some people like the gay pirate on the logo also like the bucs cheerleaders who gained 70 pounds and grew facial hair 6 or 7 years ago when they ruined the cheerleaders.
The alarm clocks were good color wise its just the alarm clock numbers and font were terrible.
I liked the brighter red color and more matte pewter pants. Its a good cross between all of the bright pastel colors of old Oilers Bucs Chargers Eagles uniforms and the trend in the 2000’s where everyone went dark and metalic like the bucs shiny pewter uniforms or the eagles going dark green etc
Its simple get rid of any orange/ Orange and red do not go together. the best looking jerseys have two colors like the giants raiders or 49ers. solid blue with white number. this is why the alar clock color rush was nice for the bucs bright red with white number.
the bucs need to get rid of the outline around the numbers on their current jerseys simplify it brighten the red to the alarm clock era and they would be perfect

I would LOVE for white and orange to come back full time. Did everyone forget the sheer awesomeness of watching Bayfield torch the Seahawks in the white last year? I really like the pewter and red, but to me it’s a little played out. I want to see more orange.

As long as Mayfield doesn’t revert to Vinny Testaverde while wearing the creamsicles, I’m okay with them. Hated them for the longest time because I equated them to the losing decades but Joe is right, the alarm clock era was the worst.

Bucco Bruce is the best logo in sports history . I believe the creamsicle uniforms will be back permanently at some point here over the next five years.

I love the creamsickles because, yes, I’m getting to be an “old fart.” Those were our colors and we didn’t win games AND WE LIKED IT!
I would argue that the hideous alarm clocks were only hideous because of the alarm clock numbers. Back in 2011 or so, the Bucs had practice jerseys that used the old Buccaneers font for the numbers. If they took those numbers and put them on the alarm clock shells, the jersey would have been the best one we’ve ever had. I also liked the VERY LARGE logo on the side of the helmet through that era, but not the chrome facemask.
I’ve even played with uniform combinations on Madden and paired the creamsickle jersey with the orangey-pewter (as opposed to today’s darker pewter) of the Alstott-Brooks-Sapp-Lynch-Barber era and it looks pretty good as well.
But for my money? The pewter color rush is the best we’ve every had. The red color rush were terrible (again because of the numbers).

Funny…I wear the Creamsicle jersey as a badge of honor. Every single home game during the early 0-26 years and still I proudly wore the orange and cheered our bunch of misfits on! Those uniforms remind me of how far we have come! Not of losing!
