Tedd Hurst Watch Against Jacksonville

August 28th, 2026

Will Ted Hurst, No. 17, play tonight?

Bucs fans might want to hope rookie receiver Ted Hurst plays tonight for one very specific reason.

If Hurst does not play, that could be a major sign that injuries to receivers Emeka Egbuka (toe) and Jalen McMillan (knee) are more serious than many believe.

Joe believes if there’s any question about opening-day availability for Egbuka and McMillan, then Hurst will be placed in bubble wrap tonight because Todd Bowles might have to start Hurst in Week 1 at Cincinnati.

In that scenario, the Bucs can’t play games letting Hurst run tonight against the Jaguars’ soon-to-be grad students, mattress movers, car salesmen and gym teachers.

Yes, Joe realizes it might be a good idea to sit Hurst anyway. Protect the young man. Let guys like Garrett Greene, Dean Patterson IV, Kameron Johnson and other bubble receivers have the game. Hurst had a very strong practice in pads on Tuesday against the Jaguars. Even Jacksonville media was highly impressed.

Regardless, Joe will have a keen eye on Hurst’s status tonight.

Well, if none of our starting offensive line players are going to be in there, there won’t be much effective passing going on anyway

  2. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Not gonna lie, I wanted to see Hurst play with Daniels at QB.

  3. Muscle Hampster Says:

Joe has a thirst for hurst

  4. Doughboy Says:

If the team is counting on him for the season he should be sitting. Already know what he can do by now so health is more valuable to us. Let someone else play.

  5. ATLBuc Says:

Do you think Kam Johnson is on the bubble? I don’t recall seeing anyone else, but Tucker, returning kickoffs and no one else returning punts. I’m really impressed with Patterson

  6. ATLBuc Says:

    T Hurst = Thurst!!

  7. DS Says:

Don’t let him play regardless and imo he should start

  8. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Maybe a couple of targets but I am perfectly fine not playing him tonight.

  9. football 1 Says:

I don’t know Joe, Ebucka, J Mac and Godwin have another 2 weeks to heal. I don’t think their injuries are that serious. I don’t know if Hurst playing or not playing will have anything to do with the other starting receivers. The larger question does Browning play with the very poor second team offensive line. If so then I doubt we see to much in the passing game.Browing has proven he can’t stay upright with that OL and they can’t block. If Daniels plays then we may see Hurst because Daniels can escape the pocket and make passing plays. However, Hurst has made this team, others receivers are on the bubble. I don’t think we see Hurst for that reason

  10. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

So if I am reading this blog correctly, if Ted Hurst doesn’t play tonight it means the Bucs are concerned about the health of EE and JMac.

    Unless it doesn’t mean that.

    Um…..thanks Joe

  11. TampaBayBucFan Says:

I think you could assume that if Hurst plays….EE & Jmac will be fine for week 1……if he doesn’t play, It may not mean much of anything.

  12. Hodad Says:

No point putting him out there tonight.

  13. Oscar Says:

So starting Daniels is still worthwhile, but we still won’t see him with the first team offensive line nor will we see him against a frontline defense.

  14. Obvious Says:

Injuries to EE ir Jmac aside….hurst better not see one snap tonight.

  15. KABucs Says:

“soon-to-be grad students, mattress movers, car salesmen and gym teachers.”

    Grad students = <1%
    Mattress movers = <10%
    Car salesmen = 20%

  16. infomeplease Says:

The offense needs to get healthy soon! Not just playable healthy but 90+% healthy!!! Getting practice work with BM6, the receivers, the running backs, and the OL all together!! Time is running out. Guys like Wirfs, Egbuka, McMillan need reps to get functional again!!

  17. KABucs Says:

    Gym teachers = >30%

  18. Outrigger Says:

When did Godwin get hurt? To my knowledge it’s JMac and EE that are injured

  19. Joe Says:

I don’t know Joe, Ebucka, J Mac and Godwin have another 2 weeks to heal.

To Joe’s knowledge, Godwin is fine.

  20. Teacherman Says:

    They are warriors for life!

God bless all the Men who will get cut.

They are the best Americans we have.

I think a new requirement for president should be that they were à QB.

After watching QB on Netflix, and seeing how honorable à man like Kirk Cousins is, I’ve decided that only former Quarterbacks are good enough to lead our nation.

Once again, God bless all the players who will get cut.

They are the best of the best. As Men. And as Americans.

  21. Erik with Clean Athletics™ Says:

Hurst is our starting X Receiver regardless of anyone else’s health status.

Egbuka and McMillan aren’t X Receivers and neither is Godwin or anyone else on our roster other than Hurst.

  22. Steven007 Says:

Teacher, what makes a college athlete who gets cut from a football team any better than anyone else? I only ask that odd question because your post was oddly deifying college athletes for some reason. Best of the best, as men and Americans? Where do you get the stuff? Only quarterbacks can be presidents? I assume you’re kidding. ” I’ve decided that only quarterbacks are good enough to lead our nation”… Oh really, “you’ve” decided?! What a weird thing to say.

Anyway, apropos of nothing, I read your usual litany of one sentence paragraphs that had absolutely nothing to do with Ted Hurst And wondered why on Earth you would post something like that on a post about a rookie wide receiver on our favorite football team.

  23. Kidfloflo Says:

If were banking on a rookie receiver, in his first ever start in the NFL, from a small time college program to be a savior and we have to protect him in bubble wrap till week 1, well the season is doomed before it starts

  24. One of those Gater Bois Says:

    @teacherman

I hope your post is the result of too mant adult beverages. That take is crazy.

  25. Buc1987 Says:

    Thin at WR…injuries or not.

  26. Woodman Says:

    Explain 87′ ?

  27. 3rd and 28 Says:

Hurst needs to be a pine rider for now.
No chance of getting hurt in a meaningless game.
So ride those pines young man….ride those pines.
