Depth At Cornerback Is Available

Outside of someone who collects a check from Team Glazer, is there anyone out there who publicly thinks the Bucs have good depth at cornerback?
Right now the Bucs’ immediate backup corners are undrafted free agent Ayden Garnes and brittle, unproven Benjamin Morrison.
And Joe thought the Bucs had issues with depth at offensive line!
Well, a guy who knows KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles’ defense like the back of his hand, and won a ring with the Bucs in 2020, is out there on the street looking for work.
Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Sean Murphy-Bunting was released by the Cardinals.
Now Joe’s not remotely trying to suggest SMB is Jamel Dean. And if a guy cannot make the Cardinals, what does that tell you? But damn, the Bucs would likely improve their depth at corner if they hired a UFL dude to play. That’s how bad it is at corner. At least SMB knows Bowles’ defense.
Peeking around the Azalea bush is Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Time to head to the fridge for a beer.

If hes healthy, he might be worth taking a look at. Even if he doesn’t start. But considering the all the injuries to the secondary the past few years, he’ll end up starting eventually.

The only other player besides Ed Reed to record an INT in each of his first three playoff appearances is available? He knows the system too? He has still been making timely INTs and forcing fumbles in AZ? For $3 mil?
I’m not sure why he was cut or if he’ll clear waivers but this might be another boon for Bowles. I know Licht is all over this.

3 million? Why would they pay him 3 million? He just got cut and he’s an injury risk. Vet minimum is 1.3 million.

It looks like Cards’ starting nickel Garrett Wilson is back and despite a restructure and guaranteed money lost AZ is moving on.
It makes me wary of lingering injuries being the reason. He is a Bowles second round pick after all.
I still say bring him in as trusty depth and a veteran resource for the right price.

We are tired to see good players living the Bucs hoster during the lost decade to have success in another’s team. So why not SMB and the Cardinals?

Somehow I failed to follow the Cardinal’s this off season. But, A quick perusal suggests that he had the support of the fan base before his non-football injury that cost him the 2025 season.
A lot of cuts are being made across the NFL. Is SMB the best the Bucs can get?
Maybe.
SMB has the experience and the mental ability.
From the camp comments, it looked like SMB would be a the starter at nickel until a younger guy came back from injury. But, the Cardinals decided to go with a younger and slightly cheaper option.

Yaaaaa…. I’ll pump the brakes here… this is giving serious Jordan whitehead vibes. Plus coming off major injury. plus own team don’t want him. They have seen him all training camp and if he can’t help the lowly Cardinals I doubt he can help a playoff contender. Go bucs!

I think it was a very good draft. First two icks should pn out, and fill big needs.
Only two misses.
Tykee isnt gonna hold up in coverage. Too slow. Hes a Lber Mini me.
And such good DEs and IOLs available.
Bucky Irving is too small and slow.
But Barton, Brasell,Jalen, Klein all should help.

As a depth player with experience sure, however, as a Buc, Bunting was mostly mediocre.
