Chucky Explains What Bucs Fans Should See With Zac Robinson
August 18th, 2026In honor of Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Chucky returning to the broadcast booth to call the Chiefs-Bucs worthless preseason game on Saturday, Joe will have a daily story about Chucky in the lead-up to the game.
So what does an offensive guru like Chucky think of new Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson?
Well, first, Chucky said he’s been fired enough that “guru” does not apply to him. But Chucky said, in so many words, Robinson will bring some familiarity to Bucs players but he’s different enough to be his own man.
In other words, Robinson isn’t a Liam Coen or Sean McVay copycat.
“You know Robinson, he comes off of that [Sean] McVay tree,” Chucky began. “Sean was here with us in Tampa, as you know. But when you watch him, you see a lot of 12 personnel, two tight ends. Tampa’s been a team that doesn’t use a lot of double tight end sets.
“I see a lot of shotgun operation, pistol formation. I know Kirk Cousins well. I’ve learned a little bit about [Robinson’s] system when he was in Atlanta. I know the terminology is similar to what they had here with Liam [Coen], and I’m sure that’s helpful to the veteran players.
“But everybody’s got to put their own spin on things.”
Though Chucky wasn’t asked the following, he offered up what he thought sunk the Bucs last year — and could do so again if the Bucs don’t somehow get their arms around this issue.
Injuries.
“We got to address the health of our team,” Chucky said. “We just got to stay healthy and put everything together. I’m confident that Zac will do a great job.”
Chucky is totally correct. Health torpedoed the Bucs’ season last year, specifically on offense. The only starter who didn’t miss time due to injuries was center Graham Barton.
If the offense stays healthy, why wouldn’t the team contend for a division title?

Injuries wasnt the only thing….Todd doing Todd things was a factor too!!!

Injuries….. all of Todd’s fault, some would say.
Not having good players plus injuries is a recipe for a disaster and that is exactly what they got after the bye. I am starting to give Bowles a break, not because of the injuries, but because he did not have good players and even his so called star sucked last year.

No, it was pretty much injuries. Dan Feeney couldn’t even slow down pass rushing DT’s.

A healthy Bucs offense will mean a Division championship and hopefully getting to a NFC Championship game. GO BUCS

You gotta love Gruden. He has proven to be incredibly loyal when he could have easily turned his back. He is extremely dedicated to the Bucs so don’t look for him to be critical, but he will bring things up.
He is great for this community.

An injured QB who was still better on one leg than the backup QB was the biggest reason why this team missed the playoffs.
A healthy Baker could will the team to victory even with a decimated OL and bad secondary. The train broke down once his own body took too much punishment. It wouldn’t have mattered if the rest of the team was in perfect shape once that happened – they were going nowhere.

Injuries with no depth on offensive line. Hopefully that is fixed but who knows. Cornerback depth is the issue now.

The guards were trash last year. I think the ain’ts will be our main competition in the division this year. Atlanta is garbage and Carolina has Bryce Young.
GO BUCS

This is a 3-14 team without Baker Mayfield, and a 10-11 win team if he stays healthy – as in actually in good health and not the walking wounded. Conversely the Bucs would have to lose at least 6 or more of their starters to drag them down if Mayfield is in good shape and playing like it.

You’re not winning with edge rushers like Reddick, MLB, like Dennis, etc. We had injuries, but our roster wasn’t as talented as we thought it was.

what torpedoed the season was lack of quality depth..
injuries will happen, just ask the 9ers, but if you have quality depth(along with quality coaching; shots fired at Grizz) then you can still win…again, ask the 9ers
I think our overall quality depth has improved but not by much…still lacking CB and Oline depth and possibly a capable backup QB
GO BUCS!!!!

Just my thoughts.. Chucky can diagram shotgun, pistol and 12 personnel all day, but the Bucs’ most dangerous formation this season may simply be 11 healthy dudes. Zac Robinson just needs to keep the wheel off the injury cart, not reinvent it.

Love how Chucky uses ‘we’ when talking about the Bucs.

@BA redpen,
saints also just lost their 8th overall pick this year (WR) to an injury and he may not play for the first 4 weeks….hope he heals well though, I never wish injury upon anyone
August 18th, 2026 at 1:27 pm
Madmax. “I never wish injury upon anyone” either.
That being said, if Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase were in a minor car accident, and broke their ankles, the week before our game? As long as noone else was hurt, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over that.
When our season is over noone is gonna be asking how. They’re gonna be asking how many.

Is there anyone else besides me that believes “Chucky” is the most over-rated entity in the NFL?
The “QB GURU” who never produced or developed a SINGLE QB?
The “GURU” that dismantled “Dungy’s team”?
The “GURU” that led the Raiders into a decade of “suck-ville”?
The “GURU” that got expelled from the NFL for being an “R-word”?
Please – keep this “GURU” away from my favorite NFL team.

I dont know marine ,al he does is football 24-7.He did face his old team in the SB??

I like Gruden. I like his personality and fire. Guru is a bit of a stretch. But he’s a lot of fun and this is entertainment after all. I thought he was a decent play calling OC coach but don’t let him anywhere near the personnel decisions or draft process, please! Not the best developer of rookies, either. But looking forward to Saturday with him as an announcer.
August 18th, 2026 at 2:01 pm
I think the main reason people like to throw around the word guru is because all of the letters in that word are in “Gruden”. There’s a bit of alliteration with that title.
August 18th, 2026 at 2:38 pm
Chucky is entertaining
He has been dying for a 2nd chance
August 18th, 2026 at 2:48 pm
Injuries speaks to depth or lack there of. I think we have better overall depth this year, although we still need a serviceable CB. Even Todd said it somewhat recently. Not sure why we gotta wait so long to get a new player integrated into this supposed “complex” defensive system?
August 18th, 2026 at 2:59 pm
Thought I saw a decent amount of 12 personnel Friday night.
I may be the only one but I’m not sure 12-13 personnel is what we should be majoring in. We’re stacked @ WR and not so much @ TE. I want to see teams having to (try to) cover our #3-4-5 recievers!
Have to trust that Zac knows what he’s doing 🤞🏼

Please don’t try to minimize what Gruden did or what kind of coach he was. During that time period he was one of the best. His specialty was offense, but unlike a lot of coaches today he understood the defense as well. He rebuilt the entire offense the Super Bowl season. I’ve met him several times and not only is he a great dude, but football is his passion.
