Chris Braswell Is Cut; New Braswell Watch Begins

August 30th, 2026

The Bucs have launched their 2024 second-round draft pick, Chris Braswell.

The Alabama edge rusher never seemed to have what it takes to succeed in the NFL, even on special teams.

It didn’t help Braswell that he’s been hurt the past week, but it’s unlikely he could have saved his Bucs soul regardless. The writing was on the wall for Braswell after the first preseason game.

Now, Joe is very curious to see where Braswell latches on.

It’s very rare for a second-round pick to only get one shot in the league. There’s surely at least one general manager out there who fell in love with Braswell during the pre-draft process and believes Todd Bowles didn’t develop him — and that his coaching staff can do better.

    Maybe not

  2. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I heard the GM of the Memphis Showboats is enamored with Chris Braswell.

  3. Teacherman Says:

I heard Pyburn got cut too.

They say he can return to LSU. And they say he won’t be able to enter the draft.

And they say we will still own his rights next year.

Seems like a win win for everybody.

He gets another year to hone his craft Ànd build his NFL body.

He had a great learning experience with our OLB group.

He can come back next year and replace Nelson or Mohammed.

  4. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Never saw the passion for the game in his play. Wishing him well, time to move on, too bad. Can’t hit them all, but Licht’s 2nd round misses are pretty legendary. At least we are moving on.

  5. Joseph C Simmons Says:

I swear, sometimes I see something in simply their facial expressions and body language that just tells me a player isn’t going to make it. I still remember how Simeon Rice, who walked on the field like he’d destroy people, was replaced by Gaines Adams, who looked either confused or like he didn’t want to play.

I saw the same thing in Braswell. He simply looks like a guy who doesn’t like football.

  6. Lakeland Says:

Chris Braswell underperformed for two years running, it was time for change. I love the Bucs new look Defensive Line. I think we win the NFC South this year, and challenge the Rams for the NFC crown.

  7. Teacherman Says:

I’m sure we are keeping Kamara.

He looked like a beast with a really thick neck and an angry demeanor.

    Looks like

    Yaya
    Bain
    Mohammed
    Nelson
    Walker
    Kamara

Pyburn can replace one of them next year.

And hopefully we can resign Yaya.

  8. Joseph C Simmons Says:

@Teacherman: A team can’t “own someone’s rights” and also cut him. It’s one or the other.

It is an interesting situation, though. What if he balls out and would be a first rounder next year, but isn’t eligible for the draft? What happens then? The NFL needs a new rule for this situation.

  9. Lakeland Says:

    Kamara was cut long ago

  10. TampaBayBucFan Says:

Preseason performances or lack thereof continue to be mentioned. Jaylon Daniels likely secured the backup QB spot…
    Perhaps they are not worthless…

  11. Destinjohnny Says:

Being a bama can we were all blown away when he was drafted so high
He just wasn’t that good at bama

  12. Lakeland Says:

The Bucs are only carrying 5 OLBs, which makes a lot of sense

  13. HopeIn1Hand… Says:

Pyburn’s rookie contract/rights will go to a team that claims him off waivers by 1:00 PM Monday and then gives him a roster spot but the Bucs have no claim to him anymore.

He’ll likely go unclaimed and play for his team of choice in 2027. Good for him.

  14. Tony Says:

That means we’re gonna call Tryon to see if he wants to come out of retirement.😁👍🫣🤮💩

  15. Ash Says:

Who cares he is gone and was unproductive

  16. Lakeland Says:

I believe these guys are evaluated more in Training Camp than preseason games. You’re going against the bottom of the 90 man roster is preseason games. But in Training Camp you’re going against quality players.

  17. BucVoyager Says:

No way anyone will pick up Braswell so he will be back on Injured Reserve

  18. Lakeland Says:

They can always add Braswell to the Practice Squad, if he clear waivers

  19. 813bucboi Says:

SEC banned players from returning after signing an NFL contract…so did the BIG 10, who are the 2 biggest paying conferences in college

Hopefully he signs with the PS….injures happen and his kid reminds me of Trey Hendrickson with his motor

    GO BUCS

  20. Lakeland Says:

Jason Licht thought Chris Braswell would be another Will Anderson Jr

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Teacherman Says:
“I heard Pyburn got cut too.”

The Bucs chose to release him. That means they no longer have his rights. If he had chosen to return to LSU under contract, they would have his rights. They don’t.

  22. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

As someone pointed out, if another NFL team so chooses, they can grab Pyburn by tomorrow.

BUT if Pyburn somehow manages to play for a college team this year, next year Pyburn will not go thru the draft, but will be a unrestricted FA.

I would assume the same conditions would apply if Pyburn played one year in the CFL or any other league.

  23. Lakeland Says:

I want to see what the Bucs do with their ILBs
There’s a lot of competition there

  24. adam from ny Says:

that still leaves about 60 guys…who are the final 7 cuts to get down to 53 by 6 pm…

where is greg auman when you need him 🙂

  25. Lakeland Says:

I haven’t heard from Greg Auman since 3pm

  26. Whatevs Says:

Another member of Licht’s Hall of Losers.

    Next inductee. Benjamin Morrison

He joins a long and distinguished list

    Aguayo
    Trask
    SirVocca Dennis
    J Tryon Shoinka
    And many more

  27. Lakeland Says:

I hope they keep Kaden Fordham and Voc Dennis

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

That’s actually not that many, considering how many players he has drafted.

  29. HopeIn1Hand… Says:

I hope the Braswell goes to an AFC team. God forbid he gets picked up by an NFC south team where he is sure to punish the Bucs for the next decade for not giving him the support he needed to shock the world…

But seriously, I am on Rayshaun Benny watch. He had a solid preseason including a sack but the Ravens are jammed up at DT. No way he clears waivers but I bet the Braswell will and will be on the Bucs practice squad.

Look out! The Braswell is gonna getcha! -Jason Licht keeps him around to troll us you know.

Love the Braswell pick. Honestly, cant believe he was still there in round 2.
Wonder if the Bucs will play him at Linebacker.
Either way, he should be a big improvement to our pass rush

WE GOT BRASWELL? I seriously thought he would be gone….YES!!!!!!!

I see Braswell as most likely to be bust. He just does nothing all that well.

Just being honest. I love the other picks. Especially, Tykee Smith.
I know my stuff and so does Mr. Licht!

  31. Lakeland Says:

    **Meant Caden Fordham

  32. Todd Says:

Some GM is about to say, “I can fix him,” which remains the NFL’s version of dating a stripper named Destiny. Somewhere, an NFL GM just opened Braswell’s Alabama tape like a divorced guy reopening Tinder at 1:17 a.m. Todd Bowles finally found the perfect role for Braswell: somebody else’s developmental project.

  33. Fanofdabucs Says:

In some of these clowns fantasylands, there exists GMs that hit on every pick.

JL has many more hits than misses.

But that’s doesn’t fit their “everything Bucs sucks” narrative.

    Bunch of clowns

  34. Sam Says:

Watch him become great somewhere else.

  35. Beeej Says:

He’ll ball out at LSU, be able to negotiate with ALL 32 NFL teams next year, prolly get 2nd or 3rd round pay

  36. adam from ny Says:

braswell seems to need things really simplified, is my best guess…if you know what i mean…i’ll leave it at that

  37. Lakeland Says:

Chris Braswell could very well be good in another defense. He failed in Todd Bowles defense, but he’s only 24, and can become good in another defense..

  38. BigZ Says:

Never mention him again, unless we talk about JLs greatest hits!

  39. Lakeland Says:

Chris Braswell biggest problem was more mental than physical. He couldn’t grasp the defensive playbook. He may excel in a more simple defense, with less on the plate..

  40. mj Says:

there was this play against the falcons last year, late in the game -he was in spotting someone and he went to block the tackle low and the tackle just fell on top of him and smothered him as bijan ran in for the score, it was hilarious, dude got worked. boy did JL wiff on that pick! overall i think he’s a good gm, we have way more good than bad draft picks

  41. Lakeland Says:

Chris Braswell only started two games in his career at Alabama. The reason for the lack of starts, he was poor against the run. That’s what kept him off the field for us. But, he can be a situational pass rusher with another team.

  42. Saskbucs Says:

    Agreed FanofdaBucs.

Out of curiosity I went and looked at 2nd and 3rd rounds of 2024. Busts everywhere.

Handful of guys, one edge, couple OL and couple DBs that would have been better picks but misses all over the place.

Then Licht drafted Tykee and JMac round 3 so … good job I guess.

  43. Mobucs Says:

Braswell and Pyburn: two ships passing in the night, going in opposite directions.

  44. adam from ny Says:

so no one has the official 53 man bucs roster anywhere…?

    like how is that possible…?

    i scanned the entire internet

  45. Lakeland Says:

The Bucs are slow to release their initial 53 roster, as usual.
