Devin Culp splashes through a route and has a pass squirt through his hands as the Bucs practiced in a monsoon before moving indoors. Yes, that photo is in focus; it was just raining that hard.

Eventful day at One Buc Palace for training camp. The Bucs put the pads on.

Practices the first week of camp were underwear football, NFL/NFLPA mandate. On Sunday, the teams wore “shells,” just shoulder pads and helmets. Today, the full pads came on, so there was hitting — sort of.

The linemen were hitting. But it was very clear the Bucs were not full-on hitting. For example, Sean Tucker got tackled to the ground and Joe heard an assistant coach go off, dropping f-bombs that players were not to be tackled to the ground.

And if a running back or a receiver got to the third level, it was touch football. Joe saw rookie cornerback Keionte Scott just sort of attempt to wrap his arms around Tez Johnson and then pull back.

Joe is told that is sort of a signature move at one of the several clothing-optional establishments dotting Dale Mabry Highway.

And then there was the rain! It absolutely poured. Joe thought folks were going to start gathering animals by twos. But it was awesome. It was one of the best wet ball drill days Joe had ever seen at One Buc Palace.

After about 35 or 40 minutes, KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles decided to move inside the Glazer Shed. It was raining that hard. Dang.

In his post-practice remarks, Bowles said once rain comes down so heavily, it’s pointless to carry on with practice outside.

So unless the Bucs change their plans, this is the first time Joe can recall the Bucs having an entire three-practice session all in the Glazer Shed. The Bucs are scheduled to have a night practice tomorrow night in the Glazer Shed.

Also, today’s practice had NFL zebras working for the first time.

Special guests today included two Bucs Super Bowl champs: Playoff Lenny and Donovan Smith. Smith says he will dabble in analyst work with Buccaneers.com in a similar way that Cam Brate, Will Gholston and Ali Marpet have done in the past. Smith is a pretty smart guy and well-spoken, so Joe thinks he will be good.

And lastly, for reasons Joe doesn’t know but Joe is confident it was not an accident, the Bucs had a heavy emphasis on the run game today early on.

OK, time for football, right?

* Left tackle Benjamin Chukwuma jumped offsides and the zebras began their shoulder workouts immediately. A’Shawn Robinson celebrated. Tristan Wirfs remains out with a hamstring issue.

* Bucky Irving runs right and maybe got two.

* Bucky runs up the middle to the right. Got 8-10 yards.

* Bucky up the middle for a couple.

* Bucky up the middle for four or five yards.

* Now that Bucky has broken a sweat, Sean Tucker hits the hole on a slant angling to the left. He got tackled to the ground and this sparked an f-bomb-laced scolding from a Bucs assistant. Somewhere, George Halas is throwing up. Welcome to 21st century football.

* Bucky up the middle for a couple.

* Tucker up the middle for a few.

* Kameron Johnson with an excellent catch down the right sideline despite being well-defended.

* Josh Williams up the middle.

* Early on in practice, there are a lot of flags. You could argue way too much but this is the first time players had to bear down and be disciplined with the zebra. And Joe guesses the zebras were calling things very tight. It’s training camp for them, too.

* Kadarius Calloway (New Mexico State) up the middle for a nice gain.

* Bucky tries to run wide outside without much luck.

* Kenneth Gainwell runs inside with a nice gain.

* On the handoff exchange from Baker Mayfield, it looked like Mayfield tweaked something or had his foot stepped on by Gainwell. Joe’s not sure but Mayfield crumbled to the ground and gingerly got up. First two steps he seemed to be favoring something but after that if he was hurt, he sure didn’t show it.

* OK, now we are starting to see some passing. Mayfield throws a screen to Gainwell over the middle but it was too high for Gainwell. The smallish running back tipped the ball as he jumped for it and the ball popped in the air but fortunately landed on the turf, incomplete.

* Jake Browning pitches left to Tucker who runs wide left and gets about four yards.

* Browning tries for Tez Johnson in the left corner of the end zone but Keionte Scott make a nice recovery to break up the pass. Tez was open but Scott closed the gap quickly. The defense celebrates.

* Seems to be some good enthusiasm from the defense this camp. Today continues that trend. Where was that same juice last November or December?

* Bucky runs right then cuts back for maybe four.

* Bucky runs wide left and scores on a five-yard run.

* Mayfield throws to Ted Hurst at the goal line and he is smothered right away and couldn’t push the ball over the goal line.

* Tez runs right for two or three yards (due to Bucs media relations protocol, Joe cannot go into further details on this play).

* Williams burrows his way into the end zone on a short run.

* Eric Rivers (Georgia Tech) is targeted by Browning at the near left corner of the end zone for a touchdown.

* Mayfield had Otton open down the left sideline but couldn’t connect.

* Mayfield pumps, pumps, pumps and hits Otton over the middle as Otton was on a crossing pattern from the right.

* Yes! Mayfield hits Otton deep down the right sideline, maybe 20 yards downfield. Pretty pass. Mayfield roped it to him. More of this for 2026, please!

* Mayfield and Gainwell hook up on an eight-yard pass in the right flat.

* Browning connects with Bauer Sharp down the right seam for about 10 yards.

* Joe will type it again: Sharp is a rookie who is making plays every day with the second team. Meanwhile, veteran Devin Culp is not making many plays with the third team. You can do the math.

* Garrett Green catches a pass from Browning about 10 yards downfield and he is stopped immediately by Bucs defenders.

* David Sills makes a really nice catch of a Browning pass about 10 yards down the field.

* This was sweet: Jalon Daniels was flushed out of the pocket to his left. But rather than giving up on the play and running, Daniels kept his eyes on the prize and backpedaled to buy time and threw a rope to Sills along the left sideline, who just got both feet inbounds. The crowd for Military Day roared its approval. Such a fun play.

* Daniels throws on the run to Sills on a crossing pattern from the right. It appeared Sills got shoved in the back as he reached for the ball near the right sideline. The zebras agreed with Joe as the flags came out.

* Mayfield throws for Tez about 15 yards downfield. Tez had to come back for the ball and couldn’t hang on.

* Bucky runs to the left, cuts back to run up the middle for a nice gain

* Same play it looked like but this time Bucky ran for 15 yards.

* To be fair to the defense, on that play it didn’t even look like the Bucs were trying to tackle on the second and third level.

* Mayfield throws to Gainwell in the left flat, who totally smokes SirVocea Dennis.

* Joe’t not exactly sure where Mayfield was going with the ball. He threw down the right sideline and Tykee Smith appeared to be more of a receiver than a defender. Smith was running down the right sideline like a receiver and the ball was just over his reach. Incomplete.

* Gainwell dances up the middle for a couple.

* Gainwell is popped right away when he reaches the line. Joe couldn’t tell who it was because he had his jersey rolled up. Whoever it was, he was pleased with himself and celebrated his accomplishment.

* Tucker heads for the left sideline, turns upfield and houses a 25-yard touchdown.

* Mayfield targets Tucker over the middle with a short pass but the ball was a little behind him, incomplete.

* Williams squirts up the middle.

* Finally, a Devin Culp sighting. Browning connects with Culp down the right sideline.

Two-minute drill

* Mayfield flushed to the right, checks down to Gainwell along the right sideline but no. The zebras believe he was out of bounds.

* Mayfield throws to Chris Godwin who smoothly got loose on a crossing pattern from the left for about 15. Godwin just looks so smooth this summer.

* Godwin catches a short pass over the middle.

* Nice/not-so-nice: Mayfield threads the needle connecting with Kameron Johnson down the left sideline for about 20 yards between two defenders, who both went for the ball and missed. By all means, go for that pick and give up on your coverage and allow a 20-yard gain in a two-minute drill. Just gotta have turnovers!

* Browning lollipops a ball worse than Kyle Trask to Garrett Green that is incomplete. Kemon Hall and Green were fighting for the ball. Hall had good coverage on the play. Joe thought Hall was going to get a pick.

* Browning throws deep down the left sideline for Rivers who jumped for the ball when he didn’t have to (Bruce Arians would freak out over that). Keionte Scott has excellent coverage on the play and he may have gotten a hand on the ball to tip it away, though from Joe’s angle it appeared Rivers still had a shot at a catch if he didn’t jump.
