Buccaneers-Jaguars, Open Thread

August 28th, 2026

The worthless preseason finale is here, a showcase for the bottom of each team rosters and special memories for many future high school football coaches, tire salesmen, law students and water deliver drivers.

Comment all game long below. Please play nice.

Go Bucs!

The Bucs will cut from 90 to 53 players by Sunday at 6 p.m.

This nonsense of cutting or trading Sean Tucker is ridiculous.

  2. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Go Bucs…..Just make it through the game without any major injuries.

  3. LouisFriend Says:

How many TD drives will Daniels lead tonight?

    I’m going with 2 TDs, 2 FGs and a QB2 job when it’s over.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Cut to the Baker Boi(s), praying to their Lord and Savior (Baker Mayfield) that Daniels looks bad tonight.

  5. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Hey guys, since the people in the game tonight will all together play about 40 snaps all year we aren’t going to overreact to this game, good or bad. Right???

LOL just kidding. I know we will.

  6. Proudbucfan Says:

    Here we go

  7. Inwoodjeremy Says:

I want to see if Bucs play better than the practice notes Joe wrote indicating they were struggling at times.

  8. LouisFriend Says:

Stuck watching the Jaguars TV broadcast. Ugh.

  9. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Rod it’s still preseason ,, Joe F on the ravens having another stellar night , a few drives) 11-14 115 yards and TD ,, this guy looks like an NFL QB but it is preseason, perhaps Lamar should be nervous 😉

  10. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Let’s see a little offense tonight. Jalon Daniels reported to be in QB2 spot by Ronde

Stuck watching the Jaguars TV broadcast. Ugh.

    ——–

You don’t have to listen to Chris Meyers.

    I envy you.

Actually I just broke out the radio for the Bucs broadcast – last time it was actually in sync with the streaming broadcast. This time on cable, so I’ll see how it goes. But with Meyers on the broadcast, I spend most of the game with the audio muted.

  12. Inwoodjeremy Says:

Rondae is saying the QB #2 battle is over before the game even started. Says it’s Daniels

  13. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    LMFG!!!!

  14. LouisFriend Says:

The Jags play by play guy talks by yelling.

  15. LouisFriend Says:

    Rod Munch Says:

He’s got a voice his own mother would want to punch.

  16. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Liam lost a little weight, now he looks like a hairless bald bat or a giant ostrich hatchling.

  17. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Let’s move the ball tonight and show a little confidence on offense. Not too worried about the D with no starters.

  18. Bucs 95 Says:

    Sean tucker

  19. Bee Says:

    Let’s get it!

  20. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

    WBL,

Giant ostrich hatching, I can’t unsee it now!

Your comment is disgusting and sacrilegious (not that you would care)

  23. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Kam Johnson got big as hell

  24. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

That’s twice I’ve seen Daniels listed at 6’4”. Two games. Isn’t he 6’1”?

  25. Bee Says:

    I knew Daniels would start

  26. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Giant ostrich hatching, I can’t unsee it now!“

A hot topic shopping spree away from looking like a vampire elder, as if he’s been in Jacksonville since 1792.

  27. Bee Says:

Yea, hes 6’1. I saw that too. Last week they had him at 6’0

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, Daniels just did something Baker didn’t do all preseason… he threw the ball past the line of scrimmage.

  29. LouisFriend Says:

OL gave Daniels 5 seconds of total protection, not bad.

  30. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

We haven’t seen Kpeenu at RB yet, might see him tonight

  31. Bee Says:

Threw it to a spot where he wouldn’t get decapitated. Will they try to open it up at all? No screen pass….yet

  32. LouisFriend Says:

That was a trip to the hospital for the WR unless Daniels put the ball where he did. Patterson could’ve had it.

  33. LouisFriend Says:

Bucs are in 2025 mid-season form for covering passes out of the backfield.

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

OMG, I almost forgot about the game. Had date.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Garnes scouting reports said he can’t tackle, but he’s looked good so far this preseason tackling.

  36. Stpetematt Says:

Ayden Garnes with a nice TFL!

  37. FortMyersDave Says:

Fun fact: Liam Coen is 0-2 as offensive play caller in playoff games, in fact home playoff games. Does this offensive guru get the yips when the pressure is up????

  38. Stpetematt Says:

He’s obviously worked hard on it.

  39. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Way to get off the field

  40. LouisFriend Says:

Garnes looked like someone tackling a giraffe, but it worked.

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Who is our qb right now?

  42. Bee Says:

    Run on 3rd and 7….ok

  43. Bucs 95 Says:

    Garnes is a beast

  44. Dansm Says:

Another year, bucs defense will give up the ghost again?

Todd Bowles just ain’t it, I know he supposed to be some sort of defensive guru, but man every year the defense blows – with no depth

  45. ATLBuc Says:

No one follows the motion man on either of those big plays.

  46. ATLBuc Says:

    Garnes is sticky!

  47. Rod Munch Says:

Why wouldn’t they kick a FG? Is the field in bad shape or something? Their kicker can easily make it from 58.

  48. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Nelly is making somebody his bih tonight

  49. Bee Says:

    Nice!!! Nelly doing Nelly things

  50. LouisFriend Says:

    Coverage sack there, nice work.

  51. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“No one follows the motion man on either of those big plays.“

Zone baybee, looked like cover 3 but those safeties disappear out to the camera shot so fast Í can’t really tell.

  52. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Hard to tell from TV angles, but Mullins was looking B Mo’s way but didn’t pull the trigger on Nelly’s sack.

    Could be a “nicely done”.

  53. Bee Says:

Behind the 5, expect a lot a runs. Would love to see a slant go all the way

  54. FortMyersDave Says:

Daniels has a lot of field to work with. Time to uncork one?

  55. ATLBuc Says:

I hope our pass rush can bail us our this year.

  56. Bucs_Shak Says:

Really like Daniels, we need to keep him and grow him. I feel like we stink at developing QBs though.

  57. LouisFriend Says:

    Rod Munch Says:

Why wouldn’t they kick a FG? Is the field in bad shape or something? Their kicker can easily make it from 58.
    **********
Coen wants the punter to get work now since he doesn’t plan on using him much this season. Bowles would kick the FG.

  58. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Garnes tackles like he knows his job is dependent on him putting a hate on someone, but he goes about it like a baby that just learned to walk who’s mind is set on running. Like I see you, but take it easy fella

  59. FortMyersDave Says:

Rod, they know Little can kick from 58 out easily, perhaps they wanted to see their punter pin the Bucs down and he did.

  60. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Nice play to get out of the danger zone

  61. ATLBuc Says:

    Somebody didn’t get the memo!!

  62. Bee Says:

Gotta love that Daniels hop pass

  63. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    “Somebody didn’t get the memo!!“

Gonna get tossed out of 1Buc like Uncle Phil used to do Jazz 🤣

  64. HopeIn1Hand… Says:

Garnes just keeps giving me reasons to stop worrying about CB depth.

And yeah, Coen has dropped 50 lbs working out with Tony Boselli apparently. By the looks of him that workout consists of smoking meth and staying out of the sun.

  65. Rod Munch Says:

Amazing vision by Tucker, runs right into the back of his offensive lineman like he’s Michael Pittman in 2003.

  66. LouisFriend Says:

Parker Washington sounds like the kind of kid that would’ve been stuffed in a locker in high school.

  67. El Hefe Bucc Says:

Coen on that Ozempic looking like Patrick PuterSchmidt Lois Griffin‘s crazy brother

  68. ATLBuc Says:

This is why I hate out of town coverage. I don’t want to see this scrub!! Nice play Tez!!

  69. Steve V Says:

The Jags ,well they look human imagine that! Didn’t they just win the SB, world series, Smyth trophy etc…During the week???

  70. LouisFriend Says:

Where was the roughness call against the guy who blasted Tez after he was on the ground?

  71. Bee Says:

    Rod

I was gonna say the same thing lol

  72. Bucs 95 Says:

Trade baker start daniels LOLLLLL jk 😏 maybe

  73. Bee Says:

So good to see a QB actually throw the ball 10 yards…for the Bucs

  74. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Never good to see the back of an OLmen jersey as the RB is being tackled behind him

  75. Rod Munch Says:

Daniels would have a perfect night so far except for two drops from WRs.

  76. ATLBuc Says:

This announcer is struggling with the names tonight.

  77. Bucs_Shak Says:

Ugh. The ball was where it needed to be twice in both times the receivers came up empty-handed.

  78. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    Gotta catch that Kam

  79. Bee Says:

    Tez sold….smh

  80. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I think it was an overgrown blade of grass and a light wind gust that got Tez

  81. LouisFriend Says:

Two straight solid punts from Dixon. He looks a little better than last year.

  82. JMAC Says:

Bee, that was Kameron Johnson not Tez!

  83. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Come on Kam, I really want to like you but that was rough.

  84. Bee Says:

Daniels is dealing but the WRs got crisco on their hands

  85. ATLBuc Says:

THurst not playing tonight. Must be starting Week 1.

  86. El Hefe Bucc Says:

    Receivers gotta get it together

  87. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So they started Daniels? Have they mentioned the status of Browning?

Daniels is actually doing decent from the few minutes I’ve seen.

  88. Bee Says:

    JMAC

    ohhhhh mi malo

  89. Marky mark Says:

    ATLBuc Says:

This announcer is struggling with the names tonight.
    ********************
Yep. He did zero pre-game work on the names and numbers and it shows.

  91. chad Says:

drops are part of the game, buccaneer receivers had 20 last season, led the league in drops actually, oh and bee i’ve seen baker throw more than 10 yards plenty of times, he does it against starters not 2nd and 3rd stringers

  92. Bee Says:

Daniels went thru his progressions. Good ball placement. Imagine him behind Wirfs throwing to Godwin

  93. BucsFan2023 Says:

Well, it’s the end of the first quarter and the QB all the clowns here think should be the starter has accounted for zero points. And I might add playing against the third and fourth string defenders.

  94. LouisFriend Says:

Killebrew channeling his old man version of John Lynch there.

  95. Stpetematt Says:

Yeah…not bad. All the passes haven’t been a high degree of difficulty, however.

  96. Lightningvinny1 Says:

UDFA Joe F killing is for the Ravens ,, has over 500 passing yards this preseason so far ,,, Lamar better watch out people cause this UDFA killing it (sound familiar) BTW Ravems up 31-0

  97. ATLBuc Says:

Bro!! Baker’s not playing tonight. You don’t have to defend him He’s gonna start the first few games!!! LOL!!!

  98. LouisFriend Says:

Smart rush by Roberts. Kept coming with active hands and forced an incomplete.

  99. Bee Says:

    Roberts had him on skates

  100. Stpetematt Says:

Hurst not playing means there’s some possibility Egbuka may not be ready by week 1. Hope I’m wrong and they are just satisfied with his camp and rested him. Really hoping to hear Egbuka is back at practice sometime next week!

  101. Bucs_Shak Says:

I really don’t like the playcalling.

  102. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    A lot of 4th downs…

Turf toe is no joke. Guys come back too soon from a minor tear and it turns into a years long issue. Better to keep him off if there’s any chance he could aggravate it.

  104. Monty Says:

Special teams not so special again.hope their better than last year.

  105. El Hefe Bucc Says:

    The commentary sucks

  106. Marky mark Says:

Daniels 60 minute pace for almost receptions… 12…Almost interceptions 6

  107. Steve V Says:

    And….Daniel’s coming back to earth!

  108. Bucs 95 Says:

    Receivers selling hard tonight 😒

  109. Stpetematt Says:

I don’t think Tez ran that route correctly. I’m pretty sure he should have cut much sharper and got to the ball earlier. Still needs to work on his technical route running.

  110. OurYear Says:

This local broadcast is awful. This split screen showing their GM while the actual play is a thumbnail sized box.. Can we please watch the damn plays.

  111. Bucs 95 Says:

  116. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

  120. Letsbuccingo Says:

Is Bowles on the cut list? Four OC’s in four years only one he gets along with in Licht he stabs everyone else in the back. It’s not my fault!!!!!

  121. Lightningvinny1 Says:

JD to the practice squad ,, we need a real back up QB,,, Wentz may be available or Cooper Rush

  122. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

The Jags GM looks like he’s 19 years old.

  123. Monty Says:

3 rd stringers are in on defense I see.

Wentz is pretty firmly a QB2. You really want Cooper Rush? Did you see him last year?

Our special teams doing great giving up a 61 and 69 yard field goals

  128. Steve V Says:

NEWS FLASH! Im watching ” practice practice “

  130. LouisFriend Says:

  135. Marky mark Says:

Yea, louisfriends. There is,a better chance to have a black governor than a black quarterback in Florida. Can somebody ring up Donnie Frump to endorse Daniels? Can somebody explain why the kickers, are better? Leg weight training? Steroids? Aerodynamics training? AI analysis of foot to ball placement?

  141. Rod Munch Says:

The Baker Boi(s) all upset it was turned over to an incomplete pass.

  142. LouisFriend Says:

Very bad 2nd down throw from Daniels. Periods of inaccuracy is one of the knocks on him.

  143. Steve V Says:

    Regardless play to the whistle!

  144. Bucs 95 Says:

  155. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

  156. Lightningvinny1 Says:

The throw was way behind Tez , don’t blame Tez!!! JD can run the scout team for sure ,,, let’s face it we do not have a real back up ,,,,, again

  157. Stpetematt Says:

Daniels looks like a pretty good backup qb to me. Needs to keep working on his mechanics. I haven’t seen him throw anything deep yet- I hope they try at least one. I’ll bet he looks even better with better technical route runners like Egbuka.

  158. Monty Says:

Now there are 4th stringers playing, and the refs will now take over the game.

  159. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

#96 got washed out and Jags sprung a leak

If Daniels makes the team The Daniels doods led by Munchy will be cheering for Baker to run more, take on tackler s and get hurt.. I think the German word for that is schadenfreude.

Another good tackle by Garnes. Not sure if he learned to tackle in camp or if the scouting reports were all wrong.

  168. LouisFriend Says:

The center snapped before Daniels expected it. Miscommunication there.

  169. ModHairKen Says:

How you like that Munch, your new fanboy fantasy can’t take a snap under Center, and no one even bumped him like the infamous Mayfield playoff fumble that you bring up every week.

  175. Jeff Says:

Tick tick tick… the prince ain’t looking too swift, people need to get over it. This kid would get Bowles fired if he were to be #2 and had to take over due to injury. It was a feel-good story but it starts for real in 2 weeks

  176. LouisFriend Says:

@ModHairKen – That was an early snap. Either the center or QB was on the wrong count.

Monty you need to scold louisfriend he started it with the black qb statement above I was being absurd to point out his absurd conspiracy theory. I’m not too concerned by play calling – they keep things super basic in preseason and don’t show much. But at least we’re not just seeing screen, followed by screen, followed by screen.

Overall Daniels has looked pretty good – just been a victim of some awful drops on 3rd down, which have stopped drives.

True, I do remember saying on that one run vs Buffalo where I saw Tucker make a cutback, it was literally the first time I ever remember him doing that, it was a nice read and move. So you’re right to point that out.

I was being sarcasTic to point out how ridiculous that statement is in a state with a probable new governor Byron Darnold.

  208. Kenton Smith Says:

We need a solid backup quarterback. We found one. Should be only Browning and Bazelak competing for the third spot tonight. Daniels has earned the backup job and deserves to be throwing to our best receivers and playing behind a capable line. He’s going to be fine.

  209. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I didn’t say the play calling Rod, I don’t like that particular play call and the iterations we’ve run it in. No play is designed and called to fail, but the talent can and has been sucking at it. Also our back OL cannot be trusted to zone block, we’ve looked terrible overall running the football. So, again why would I put OLMen that can move men in space-in space to throw the ball. Throwing the fall further than the amount of actual yardage your gaining playing a risky leverage game.

    I don’t like it

  210. Rod Munch Says:

  221. LouisFriend Says:

Daniels couldn’t do much with that 3rd down. But his arm strength is showing in the first half. He’s gotta work on his mechanics and accuracy because he doesn’t have the power to make a lot of throws off platform.

Munch, you must miss a lot of games if that is your assessment of Tucker.

    ———–

Tucker has no vision – he’s by far his best when he’s just tossed the ball outside and all he has to do is run forward. When he runs inside, all he does is run forward and most of the time right into the back of his offensive line. He’s a very basic north / south runner, nothing more. He’s fine as a third RB, and can fill in as a starter if needed, but so could Ke’shawn Vaughn – pretty much any NFL RB can have a big game once and a while if they get the carries, but what separates a good RB from someone like Tucker is consistency.

Also Tucker can not pass block and will get the QB killed. His hands are mediocre, not bad, but nothing special.

If he was so good, why didn’t anyone else this summer try to sign him when he was a RFA? No one game him an offer sheet.

  233. Bee Says:

Vinny you might need to adjust the saturation on your screen. Passes have hit WRs in the hands and on the numbers and have still been dropped. No one is saying Daniels is Lamar Jackson but compared to the rest of the backups Daniels is the best.

Don’t worry, your boy Bake is safe…for now.

  234. Marky mark Says:

  238. LouisFriend Says:

    @Rod Munch

They were scared of leaving Ke’shawn Vaughn in to block on passing downs. I think Tucker rates above his body of work.

But yeah, he’s very north-south. They do need a guy like that in reserve.

  239. Bee Says:

    Louis

I agree. Not one bomb this entire pre-season. Not even a play action go route but I’m sure Robinson is playing close to the vest. But I’d love to see Daniels downfield accuracy. But considering the WRs, they’d probably drop it

This coming from the same Baker Boi(s) who would claim Mike Evans dropped a ball after he’d jump like 12 feet in the air to make an amazing attempt on a very poorly thrown ball – and then say Evans was a bum for not bringing it in.

Tonight, the ball is literally hitting the WRs in the hands, but its the QB at fault.

LOL! Always the same thing with the Baker Boi(s) – they’re so insecure, they let think an UDFA is a challenge to take his job, and now they root for him to fail.

  241. Marky mark Says:

Munchy what is Daniels 60 minute pace? What we are seeing is,Daniels playing against better defenders. All those hard passes in the draft by 32 teams over 7 rounds may have actually been based on film study, interviews, and statistical analysis. There is,a lot of highly paid people making these decisions. They cant all be wrong.

  242. Monty Says:

Maybe the baker will play next.we need to score.

  243. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Baker is safe,, thanks !!! JD is 7-14, 54 yards , no points , 2 sacks and a fumble ,,, If you want to give JD praise for the other preseason games against 4th stringers then you got to give him the same critic for this against 3rd stringers ,,, I’m not saying he can’t play, give him a year or 2 on the PS and see what happens ,,, I get it , the best lineman tonight for us is Mearl Haggard and he totally stunk last year ,, at least our D back ups look ok

  244. Stpetematt Says:

Tucker needs a hole to run through- like every running back ever except for Barry Sanders. There weren’t any. That’s not what happens with our starting offensive line. What’s special about Tucker is when he gets a hole and gets into the open field. Things our O-line are very good at.

  253. BUCDADDY Says:

Not really gonna be too judgemental on preseason and the passing game, considering none of our playmaker receivers are even taking reps. Hell, I haven’t even seen Ted Hurst, who has looked pretty impressive.

Also, kinda hoping we could find a way to keep 4 running backs, considering how shifty Josh Williams has looked. Ayden Garnes looks like an absolute DOG so far! Thinking the secondary may look better this year. Jason Daniels, othet than fumbling snaps, has looked like a legit backup with potential to be a future starter of the Baker situation doesn’t work out heading into next season. GO BUCS!!!

  254. Monty Says:

Same here. I’d be fine with a WR dropping it (consistency matters lol) as long they ran the route properly. He was up and down with certain deep throws at Kansas – much more trouble with accuracy on the perimeter.

Still, get it on film during game action and go from there.

Legit question – what exactly did he do that made him not very good?

The fumble – not even sure that was on him – but that would be a fair criticism. What else was an issue?

He was accurate, showed good poise in the pocket, but he had at least three drives killed by drops on 3rd down – and had at least one other drop.

The team that lead the NFL in drops was the Jags at 45.

The Bucs had 20 on the year.

The Bucs have had at least 4 tonight. Over the course of a season, considering that was one half of one game, that would be a pace of 136 drops.

I don’t disagree with any of that.

It’s a bit hard to say he’s holding it too long with the complete lack of replays on TV and only seeing the TV view. It’s hard to know if he is holding it too long or if there is just no one open. Will be interesting to see the ALL22 and what it shows.

But I agree, he’s still a rookie QB, and an UDFA one at that, he needs a lot of snaps in practice, but he does look like a legit prospect. He’s good a good arm, good mobility, doesn’t seem to panic, seems to go through his progressions. Honestly, as a rookie, I think he’s looked pretty good. But yeah, if the Bucs needed him to start, they’d be in trouble, which is the case for pretty much all rookie QBs, outside of the very tippity top prospects.

Liam Coen seems to understand the game of football a lot better than Bowles. Can’t help but wonder what coulda been if we would’ve made him the HC when we had the chance.

    ———-

Thanks the Rooney Rule it was never going to happen. They couldn’t just hire Coen without firing Bowles first, then going through the bogus race based hiring system, in which time Coen still could have taken another job and left the Bucs high and dry.

The phrase “calling a spade a spade” is a racial slur. I’m sure it’s not being used that way intentionally here, but just FYI.
    ************
The Greeks invented the term long ago. Then the italians brought it back and used it in the way we understand now. It was introduced into English by a racist – but the phrase itself is commonly accepted and isn’t a slur.

  320. Bucs 95 Says:

Game is so bad they have too mention the moon and elon musk

  321. Rod Munch Says:

We’re getting to the point of the game where we get the ‘injury settlement’ injuries from players who will never make it in the NFL, and want to get the $10-20k check. I guess we’ll have 3 injuries that are highly questionable before the end of the game.

    What say you – over/under 2.5

  322. Monty Says:

This offensive coordinator now resorting to the behind sideline pass plays that end up in pick six about80 % of the time, just hand it off,we only got like 10 yards running.

  323. Bee Says:

    Justvisiting

I never knew the connotation behind it beside the obviousness of the phrase. I just briefly looked it up and it originated from the Greek phrase “call a fig a fig”. But of course when it started being used in America around the 1920s, they referred to black americans as spades, hence making it racist.

  324. ATLBuc Says:

I guess they didn’t see the block in the back

Tez Johnson, 3 targets, 1 catch
    Patterson, 1 target, 0 catches
    Tucker, 1 target, 1 catch, -1 yards

  335. BucsFan2023 Says:

This game reminds me of the second half of last season. The O line can’t hold a block, the defense has major mistakes in coverage and the running game is non existent. The only difference is Daniels was supposed to overcome all of these obstacles according to the crowd here.

  336. LouisFriend Says:

I’m absolutely not a Zac Robinson fan and expect the Bucs to struggle scoring points this season. What is evident to me this preseason is the Bucs aren’t going to scare anyone, just like the Falcons the last 2 years. We are seeing many plays Atlanta ran *A LOT* and defenses in general don’t spend nights worrying about.

If the Bucs are going to be winners this year Bowles is going to have to do a lot more of the lifting. Because this offensive scheme isn’t going to cut it.

Call me crazy, but I’ve been watching the game for a long time and known better than to believe in things that show no evidence of being solid. Robinson has about 4 months and change before he’s looking for a new job.

  337. ATLBuc Says:

  342. Rod Munch Says:

I like the Coen is using the preseason as you should. This is an easy give me FG, so use the 4th down play to see what your players could do. Bowles would never do that, he’d kick the FG because the 1970 coaches playbook says that’s what you do, and you do not go against the book.

  343. Erik with Clean Athletics™ Says:

  345. Rod Munch Says:

LouisFriend – It’s hard to take much away from this in terms of offense, as this is obviously very very dumbed down, and if the scrub WRs simply caught the ball on 3rd down, a lot of drives kept going.

With that said, I remember saying this last preseason as well, that while the offensive play calling didn’t look good, it was just preseason, surely it would improve.

Playcalling matters in every situation. Go back to the 2024 preseason sometime and look at how Coen ran the Bucs O. Or any of the Arians preseasons. It was vanilla, but still made sense in the game flow. Even scrub players could function in it.

I don’t disagree with that at all.

Again, last preseason, I very distinctly remember writing – this play calling makes no sense, had no flow, in the preseason – but kept saying, hopefully it would improve once the season started. It did not.

With that said, Zac’s offense did finish 6th in yards just 2 years ago (13th in scoring). So it’s not like he’s never had any success.

With that said, Zac’s offense did finish 6th in yards just 2 years ago (13th in scoring). So it’s not like he’s never had any success.

But I do agree in that you’d like to see some sort of flow, even in the preseason.

I want to agree with that sentiment, but it’s tough once you go through the games where ATL had success. The Falcons had a few games of chasing points that year along with an eruption against the Bucs that is still inexplicable defensively. The yards and points count, but it was mostly in negative situations. That’s a concern.

Zac had a weapon in Atlanta he will not come close to having here. I love Bucky but he’s no Bijan. From my vantage point Zac used Bijan as a crutch, a get out of jail free card that he won’t be able to do with the Bucs. 1,900 yards from one guy will make an OC lazy.

Glad they lost and didn’t win all of their preseason games. The new special teams coordinator is doing a fantastic job. This game also proves when the oline is garbage no QB can operate and over come it.

LouisFriend – Bijan is great, but I do not put him in the very top tier of RBs – and even if I’m not a Baker Boi, the Bucs clearly have a much better QB, and a better offensive line (if healthy of course), and even without Evans, they still have a better WR room. At RB, with Bijan and Allgeier – the Falcons were better there, but I don’t think it’s a game changer over Bucky and Gainwell (again, if Bucky stays healthy).

But… I’m not saying your points aren’t valid – just hoping for the best since there isn’t another option. In any case, it will be an improvement over Grizz, even if Zac is no Coen.

JD I think will end up doing well. No, QB has a chance to show what they can do when they have no other choice but to play with practice squad guys. JD was playing with guys who won’t even be on the team here shortly, and that trash o-line, wtf! He was running for his life the whole night, the center constantly screwing up, all the receivers dropping balls. He wasn’t perfect himself but actually did a fine job regardless of the circumstances. Put baker or any other starting QB in that situation and see how well they do. Would love to see what JD is really capable of with the number 1’s.
