Breakaway Runs Against The Jets For Josh Williams, Kenny Gainwell

Big moment for running back Kenny Gainwell.
The Bucs, obviously, are very high on three sons of former NFL players on the roster: rookie inside linebacker Josiah Trotter, banged up cornerback Benjamin Morrison and Antoine Winfield, Jr.
But there’s another son of a former player impressing.
That would be running back Josh Williams.
Joe forgot to mention the breakaway run against the Jets defense by Williams in Tuesday’s practice notes. Yeah, it was with all backups on the field, but it was an explosive run behind right guard that Williams toook about 40 yards.
It was the best run of Tuesday and Joe talked to Williams about it after practice. He is simply in a one-snap-at-a time mindset to prove what he can do. Williams was an undrafted free agent last season after five years at LSU as a secondary running back there. He flashed a lot of talent last summer, but his rookie season was cut short in November — six games erased by a league suspension for performance enhancing drugs.
It’s somewhat impressive the Bucs were willing to bring him back after that. Williams said he’s very hungry to make the most of the many carries he’s likely to see in preseason starting tomorrow night.
On Wednesday, the final day of joint practice, the magic run moment went to newcomer veteran Kenny Gainwell.
In first-team work, Gainwell took a handoff up the gut, didn’t like what he saw and bounced it outside right with extremely quick feet. Gainwell was going the distance. Jets beat writers watching practice made Joe laugh, ‘Damn, Bucky Irving is quick.’ No guys, it was Gainwell.
Given that Gainwell and Irving have a very similar stature and Irving wears No. 7 and Gainwell wears No. 1, Joe understood the confusion.
Joe hopes to be a littled confused this season, too, if Gainwell and Irving are each dazzling fans with breaking runs.

Payne Durham had an excellent seal out block that gave Gainwell the daylight to the outside, good stuff to see there from our OL front and the skill guys.

The Jets are l so behind the curve ball of what a winning team is it’ll be nice to see the Bucs face a better one soon. It’s hard to take good things seriously when it’s against a team that could easily go 3-14.

I like Josh Williams. I liked him last preseason. And, I liked him at LSU. I just never loved him, but that’s okay. He’s a solid runner. I like him.

They got some legit players on D, but young. David Bailey 2nd player taken in the draft, read that he blasted by Godeke for a sack. So they will face better talent but they will face lesser talented Defenses also.

I’ve said that since right after the draft just like Orlovski, one paper plus Walker!! Trotter will play a lot and anzalone is working with him a lot. He’s gonna learn some things about the NFL way and God willing he is going to be like his dad, for years!! Let’s Go!!!!!! Looking pretty good on both sides!! What if we could find another veteran wide receiver cheap. Mec and Jmac, I’m concerned man and very hopeful but, and I hate the word, injuries that can linger brother. Sills and K Johnson , Johnson I have seen make the catches he normally cannot so he’s looking up.

Williams is silky smooth when he cuts. Tucker is more of a one cut bull. Bucky & Gainwell have lateral quicks like a water bug. But what I like most is they all catch & run with ease.

It’s still 1 of 32 NFL teams with NFL talent, it’s not like our guys are going out there and blocking the win-loss column or playing a JUCO team. Same Jets almost stole a game from us last year off a blocked FGA.
