Bill Parcells Says He Has Weekly Bucs Talks With Todd Bowles

Todd Bowles

If you’re a wise Bucs fan and watched Raise The Flags: 50 Years Of Buccaneers Football on Amazon, you learned — or re-learned — about Team Glazer’s obsession with having Hall of Fame head coach Bill Parcells coach their team.

The Parcells tension was wild back in 2002. Would he come out of retirement to coach the Bucs after Father Dungy was fired?

Fast-forward to last month. Parcells, who turns 85 next month, was at Saratoga Race Course in New York with his much younger girlfriend. (No, he’s not in Bill Belicheat territory, but there could be a 40-year age gap.)

Parcells was interviewed by Sal Licata and was asked the following:

Sal Licata: Do you still get the joy watching these games? Do you watch from afar thinking what you could do to make things better?

Bill Parcells: With Sean [Payton’s] team, Todd Bowles, the Tampa Bay coach, I try to. Yeah. Because I know I’m going to talk to them the next week.

So Parcells is still at it as a guy who will get in Bowles’ ear. Bowles told a Jets podcast 15 months ago that he’ll hear from Parcells regularly if he’s got something to share about the Bucs.

Joe was intrigued to see the short June interview of Parcells, who doesn’t do many chats with media, though he did talk to Sage of Tampa Bay Sports Ira Kaufman last summer. Parcells quick wit was on display. Man, Joe would pay good cash to hear what Parcells had to say about the Bucs’ collapse late last season.

Wonder if he goes on double dates with Belidunce?

  2. Not a good look Says:

    Fascinating

Never bad to have the Big Tuna in your ear raining down his knowledge. Dude is one of those few unparalleled!

  3. LynchMob50 Says:

Kenton is such a tool he’d rather have Bowles than Parcells or Belichick.

Clearly Toad Bowels doesn’t listen to anything Parcells has to say.

At what point do you decide a coach can’t get the job done?

Two seasons in four years of below.500 football. In a division with nobody’s.

Just imagine if the laughing stock was in a good division. He’d have been run year two. If not sooner.

Steaming pile of dung > Toad Bowels

Is this more evidence that our head coach doesn’t listen?Or is this just a lack of talent on this team? Or do we just have to play it better and coach it better? I HOPE this year is better than the last. Go Bowles?

I watched it on NFL Network when they ran it for a week, and the last two episodes (Friday) ran in their entirety with messed up audio. I guess no one was in the studio to fix it. Just load the tapes, hit play, and leave.

You could hear all of the background audio and music, but not the main track with the principles being interviewed. I suffered through episode 9, hoping that it was the only one affected. Nope. Both episodes that day were ruined.

  7. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

Either the Tuna has lost his touch or Todd is ignoring his advice

    This defensive scheme, SUCKS!!!

  8. Football 1 Says:

Heck I would pay money to gear Parcels assessment of the Bucs CB position. I would also like to hear how Bowles explains to Parcels his assessment of McColumn and Morrison whom at this point in my opinion are a huge weak link to the team.
    I know I scratch my head .

We are stuck with Bowles for ‘26. We can cry about it everyday or hope for the best. If we stumble or fall, Bowles will be on the hottest seat ever heated. I, for one, hope for the best but am a realist expecting another 9-8 season. I won’t be happy with that unless that means a division title and us getting to round 2 minimum.

3.28 and Lynchmob – we get it and most feel the same as I do, but please cut us some slack with your constant complaints.

We are all on the same team wanting the best for our Bucs. We are waiting and watching Bowles. You have increased talent now on D so you had better succeed or I’ll pack your bags for you.

  10. Stpetematt Says:

It was a lack of *healthy* talent on the team. I expect far better this year. That is, if they don’t get injured again. Let’s hope not.

  11. Kgh4life Says:

Bill Parcells is wasting his time.

  12. Baking with Robinson Says:

He calls him every week?!?!? Yep with the same question every week. Please STOP HAVING YOUR EDGE DROPPING BACK FOR COVERAGE!!!!!!

Is he ever going to get it?

    In a word: No

We will never relent, we shall never surrender, until the human KitKat bar is sent packing.

Go back and watch the defenses under Kiffin. Those were championship caliber squads that were absolutely relentless in their efforts.

That is the standard. Nothing less is ever going to be enough. Once you create a standard of excellence you should always strive to maintain that level.

Not just settle and be happy with years of regression.

  15. Simple T Says:

Biggest losers are those who give up…. Worse yet are the losers that try to convince others that they’re wrong to have optimism.

  16. 3.28.Evans Says:

I wonder what Tuna said to KitKat after 3rd and 28 and the loss to the Dolphins?

“Drink heavily. Then retire”. Would have been the best possible advice for Tdod. What we need are more articles about Bowles losing his touch, losing the players, Mike and the other veterans leaving.

  18. Win in the Trenches Says:

PARCELLS would have fire Bowles……….. after the collapse …..

Parcells would cut players mid season or whenever if they deserved it…

  19. Badbucs Says:

Parcells, like the majority of NFL coaches and FO people, likes Todd. He’s obviously harmless and affable. He’s classic Peter principle – promoted to his level of incompetence. He has vast football knowledge and contacts all over the league. He just doesn’t have what it takes to be a winner. Sad to say. We’re stuck with him at least another year and it’s hard not to whine about it. Doesn’t even make you feel better.

  20. Steve V Says:

So what! Lynchmob and 328 are joined at the hips! Kissn Cousins!!

  21. Bee Says:

So when they talk, do they talk about football and coaching?
