Jacob Parrish Says He’s Focused On Outside Cornerback

The Bucs are pushing Jacob Parrish’s brain in different directions, but he’s trying to stay locked in at outside cornerback.
Tampa Bay’s second-year stud corner played nickel last year and had a strong rookie season. But, as Bucs fans know, Todd Bowles changes nickels every year like smart people replace smoke detector batteries.
Parrish made a couple of starts at outside corner, but that was not his focus last season. This year, it is, he said after practice today.
“Just really focusing on corner, trying to learn it better, you know, because I played nickel the majority of last year. So, I’m trying to break down the defense at corner,” Parrish said.
In fact, Parrish said he’s excited to play both nickel and corner because “a lot of people can’t do that.” Legendary Bucs cornerback Rondé Barber often played outside corner and moved inside or sure passing downs.
Asked to explain how much time he’s devoting now in practice to each position, Parrish called it a 50-50 split.
It’s practice. Parrish should be dividing his time, but it sure seems like the Bucs cannot afford to play Parrish at nickel given his talent and durability compared to others on the roster.
Joe will be surprised if Parrish is not a full-time outside cornerback.

That should be the plan for Scott too. No telling what will happen with injuries -Especially with no depth.

Just work him at outside CB 100% of the time. He is needed there.
Scott will play nickel and if JJ Roberts looks good, Tykee could play nickel if Scott goes down.
I think Morrison will be good but if he’s always injured, we know what good he is.

its good to get the 50/50 reps in now….once the pads come on, Parrish should stay outside with Scott manning the Nickel…
regardless of the seasons outcome, we’ll be drafting a CB high in 27′ lol

Naa, Todd will have him playing DE, DT, OLB and Safety most of the time. With some nickel and outside CB sprinkled in.
Confusion is the goal.

I had forgotten about Wisdom and Roberts- they both can/could be a big help!
Still, I’d like to see the Bucs bring in one more veteran corner with coverage chops that can tackle. For depth and to compete for a starting position.

Morrison is fragile. He was drafted while rehabbing and it looks like this is his permanent MO. Wish Jason would get his head out his a** and find a decent veteran CB before it is too late.

The fact that Parrish is getting 50% at Nickel & 50% at Outside CB seems to imply that Bowles simply wants to keep his options open in terms of how & where to use Parrish (Todd’s probably a bit wary of Morrison’s availability given his injury situation).
I was optimistic last preseason about both JJ Roberts AND Rashad Wisdom, but then both of them went down early (Roberts with a knee injury in preseason & Wisdom shortly after the season started with a quad injury) and both ended up on IR. They have a TOTAL of 3 def snaps between them, so yes, a veteran corner would be a welcome addition.

Parrish was the best cb for the Bucs last year. Please watch this guy. He has amazing instincts and tackles very well for a cb, and, is durable. He has good reaction time and an eye like an eagle. I love the way he aggressively stuffs out plays. Pound for pound he runs circles around Dean. Parrish is a pure playmaker. He’s hungry and hustle plays hard and 100% on every down. Hand’s down, he’s the IT factor as corner back.

Everything dmatt said, plus the fact Parrish with the mentality of “not many CBs can do both” with his given can be really good for us as a chess piece. Even as a rookie he’s shown he can pretty much excel at what he’d be asked to do.

Man ! Play the guys who give you the best chance to be a good defense. To start you will need guys that aren’t built of glass & you will need guys who can get their mind right and be a lock down on every play the fight . Not loaf ! Parrish had some dawg in him but the other 2 corners , well let’s just say MEH !

Mahomes new contract, just signed yesterday, puts him back as the NFL’s highest paid QB (his previous 10-year contract signed in 2020 only paid him $450 mil plus $50 mil in incentives). This one extends that one by 2 years untill Patrick turns 38-years-old (2031) and is worth $504.75 million (plus almost $18 mil more in incentives). Significantly, the first 4 years are fully guaranteed.

BTW, Mahomes had surgery in mid-December for a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee. He’s participating in practices now, but on a limited basis. His goal is to return for the Chiefs’ season-opening home game against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 14.
And there-in lies the gigantic gamble when a team puts all their eggs in a single basket. Patrick’s impact on the Chiefs’ salary CAP is enormous. He may be the ‘ultimate leader’ like the Chiefs’ brass has contended, but that won’t mean diddly if he’s sitting on the bench or in the tub. The Chiefs’ salary CAP position has become rather dicey (#31 position as of right now, largely because of Mahomes’ $35 mil CAP hit exceeded by Chris Jones $45 mil CAP hit). Finishing 6-11 last season was no accident.
