Brock Purdy: Mike Evans “Is Demanding Success”

May 21st, 2026

Everybody’s favorite former Buccaneers receiver has become a favorite with the 49ers, the team for which Mike Evans chose to play this season.

This week, San Francisco QB Brock Purdy was asked for an Evans update during a sitdown with NBC Sports Bay Area. He said he’s feeling the pressure of Evans’ win-now approach.

“He’s been awesome,” Purdy said. “Obviously, just what he’s done in his career, he’s a Hall of Famer, thousand-yard seasons — really year after year his whole career — he’s won a Super Bowl. Just like being around him and in his presence and understanding what it’s going to take to play with him. And just like, honestly, like the good pressure that it brings. Like, alright, ‘I have a guy that is demanding success and demanding to be great.’ And I love that. I want to play with guys like that.”

Purdy went on to talk about his excitement after working with Evans because he “sees the game like a quarterback does.”

The fifth-year QB talked about how the duo has been breaking down routes Evans ran with Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield. Evans has left Purdy impressed by Evans’ level of knowledge.

“I’m like, ‘Alright, this guy knows ball,'” Purdy said.

Joe wishes Evans well and hopes the 49ers lose by 30 to the Rams in Australia to open the season. Did Joe mention Evans made it public he’s uncomfortable on long flights?

    Eff Mike Evans

  2. Bosch Says:

    Demand a first-class seat, Mike.

  3. Vsluc Says:

    Yawn

  4. Capt Kidd Says:

When Evans needed 5 yds for the record, Bowles made the decision to throw it to him with the playoffs on the line. Mike didn’t return that loyalty, it’s all about him. So he’s dead to me.

  5. Blake Says:

Quut taking about Evans, this is a Bucs site.

  6. Teacherman Says:

    You guys sound bitter.

He has every right to try sth new after last years pathetic defensive effort.

He has every right to play for a team with a sold out stadium.

Our stadium has no vibe. Opposing teams fans make more noise than our fans.

Our coach didn’t cut anybody last year during the season.

Our special teams was the worst I’ve ever seen in the NFL.

Our defense didn’t swarm. Didn’t hit. Didn’t care.

I’m happy for Mike and Christian McCaffrey.

I hope Mike has a great season.

  7. Curse of Gruden Says:

I read on the internet that the Australian air reeks havoc with hamstrings.

  8. Tye Says:

    ‘Evans’ win-now approach.’

Evans KNEW the moment the news came out that the Bucs were keeping IBS as HC that The Bucs are NOT a win-now team!

  9. KABucs Says:

Curse of Gruden… It’s the extremely dry air + the weirdness of being the southern hemisphere. Typhoons rotate backwards there… it’s witchcraft! 😲
    😜

  10. FlorIdahoBuc Says:

“Alright, This guy knows Ball”. Seriously. After thousands of yards that’s his take away?

Jeez. Hope he knows about hamstrings and how M1k3 can heal.

  11. 28.3.Evans Says:

Tell me a first ballot hall of famer without first team all pros to their name. Jussssss sayinnn

  12. Baking with Robinson Says:

December showed we were a defense lost in space.

I don’t blame Evans. I wish him well. He made the right business decision.

  13. Baking with Robinson Says:

Yes less money with better coaching.

  14. Lakeland Says:

The OFFENSE sucked twice as much as the defense last season
16.8 ppg during the last 7 games ( 2-5) record
And these ppl talking about defensive failures

    SMDH

  15. Lakeland Says:

Some ppl can’t see the Forest for the Trees

  16. Daryl Green Says:

Is this a buccaneers fan site or the 49er’s🤷🏾‍♂️

  17. Lakeland Says:

    A site for misinformation

So, it’s the perfect Bucs site

  18. Bee Says:

Mike is the greatest offensive Buc of all time, its ok he getting articles, what else is there to talk about. Its a shame how Licht, Bowles and Baker ran him off. It doesn’t make sense that Mike and Baker were close and Mike believed in him, but he left anyway…to make less money.

Mike is gonna have a great season.

  19. Admiral Redbeard Says:

I love Mike Evans, but if I wanted 49er’s news, I would have gone to a 49er’s fan site. Please stick to Bucs news, Joe’s.

  20. Truth be Told Says:

is he also demanding on coming out after more than 2 plays or if he head to run a pattern at full speed for more than 2o yards by tapping his helmet. He was great but it’s a New Era. Time to Turn the Page. And hey ME how do you like lovely San Fran? YUK

  21. Oahu Jimothy Says:

Telling the Joes what they should and shouldn’t talk about is as useless as Bowles Defensive End teaching technique.

I read this article on PFT a little earlier and just when I thought I was over Evans leaving, to read another teams QB boasting about him still stung.

One last note… This is a Bucs fan site and Mike Evans is a Buccaneers legend there for this is a Bucs article no matter how salty you are about Evans leaving!!!

  22. Kenton Smith Says:

Lakeland. That must be the reason the professionals that run our team has spent the offseason rebuilding our defense and leaving the offense alone. And here you’re telling us that the offense was twice as bad as the defense was last year? Somebody is a true Doofus around here, aren’t they, Lakeland?

  23. Win in the Trenches Says:

    3rd and 29 …..??

I would like to know the real story why the Defense collasped ??

  24. JimBobBuc Says:

Who? Former Bucs players don’t interest me. Lots of new young guys on the team to talk about!

  25. Oahu Jimothy Says:

    @Win in the Trenches,

I think the real story is there was no consequences for substandard play. One of the alleged leaders of the defense admitted to loafing.

  26. Lakeland Says:

The offense was ranked 18th in points scored
The defense was ranked 20th in points allowed

Our high powered offense don’t need any upgrade
But, our pathetic defense need a serious overhaul

    SMDH

    Only on a Bucs site!!!

  27. J Says:

Does Purdy know how to tie his shoes?

  28. Lakeland Says:

You misinformed ppl do realize there’s 32 teams in the NFL
So, an offense that’s ranked 18th out of 32, is considered (Below Average)

But, on this site, that offense is considered as an “Potent” offense

    Lol 😂😂

I think we need some updates on Dean, White, and Hall.

  31. RJBucNut Says:

    Who?

  32. LynchMob50 Says:

Mike is a win now mindset type of person. He goes after it daily.

Unlike the Bowles philosophy of eating Kit Kats until you look like a beached whale and doing soft walk thru drills instead of full pad practice.

Todd’s a lose first make excuses storm out and declare victory type of person.

We shall see who does better without the other to weigh them down.

  33. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

“This guy know ball” ME13 had 1000 yard seasons when Brock was in middle school. Pretty sure Mike knows how to play. Silly statement.

  34. buc4evr Says:

I was just thinking today that we haven’t had a ME13 article in awhile. Glad to see Joe is back on ME13’s coat tails. Think we need at least 200 more ME13 update stories before the start of the season on JoeNinersfan.com.

  35. Jack Says:

Demanding success = demanding to be 1st read option so he can pad his stats.

Of course his new teammates are going to blow smoke up his as$.

  36. Brett Says:

If Brady had prioritized Evans, Evans might be 1st ballot. I understand his frustration.

  37. Wayne perez Says:

Who cares he’s a pos as far as I am concerned

    ________

    Absolutely correct!

  39. Bakerfan Says:

He will be on the sidelines most of the season nursing strain hamstrings and demanding success.

He is 50-50 Hall of Famer, look at his last ten years and see how he ranks with other receivers his contemporaries, not that great. If he makes to the Hall great, but he will have to ball out in SF to have any chance.

  40. Todd Says:

    TO BAKERFAN:

Mike Evans is considered a virtual lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His case is backed by historic longevity and elite production:The 1,000-Yard Streak: He is only one of two players in NFL history to record at least 1,000 receiving yards in 11 consecutive seasons (joining Jerry Rice).Touchdown Dominance: He has amassed nearly 100 career receiving touchdowns, a number that historically cements receivers in Canton.Winning Pedigree: He was a foundational piece in winning a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and continues his career as a key playmaker after signing with the San Francisco 49ers.While wide receiver can sometimes be a logjammed position, his combination of a championship ring, incredible consistency, and top-tier all-time stats guarantees he will be enshrined after he retires.

  41. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Obviously Wayne isn’t a Bucs fan. ME a pos??? Really? Find another site, please

  42. Aceofaerospace Says:

I love Mike Evans but I want him to regret leaving Tampa as much as Warwick Dunn did when he left for Atlanta right before we won our first superbowl. Only which we had a head coach capable of making that happen.

  43. Buc1987 Says:

Again…. Mike Evans is going into the HOF as a Buc!

    Same with the ROH!

  44. Bye Baker Bye Bowles Says:

Kenton: Same professionals that are not extending Baker, yes.

  45. Buc1987 Says:

And Joe….this IS a Bucs site like many are saying.

  46. Todd Says:

For like the trillionth time-it is W-A-R-R-I-C-K NOT W-A-R-W-I-C-K DUNN. If you are a Bucs fan then for Petes Sake spell it right.

  47. Bye Baker Bye Bowles Says:

A wr leaves a QB when the QB is most crucial to your success….I never heard of a wr voluntarily taking less money and leaving a 😂😂 franchise 😂😂 QB voluntarily.

  48. 1sparkybuc Says:

Mike Evans stuck with the Bucs through some pretty putrid seasons. He busted his butt for this team. Obviously he was disgusted with the effort of the defense, and was desperate for a more competitive environment, enough to take a pay cut and yank his family all away across the country. I would like to see him regret that decision, but I would also like to see him get four or five more thousand yard seasons and become a first ballot Hall of Famer. He deserves it. He didn’t put a curse on the Bucs on the way out the door like Doug Williams did back in the 1980s. He just packed up and left. I left Tampa in September of 1976, but I worked on the expansion of Tampa Stadium for the Bucs. I’ve been a fan of the team ever since. I will be a fan of Mike Evans as long as I live.

  49. Bye Baker Bye Bowles Says:

Can’t understand why a wr would want to go with a younger QB with more upside who already has a superior resume that is accurate, can read a defense and be efficient. He traded inmoxie for accuracy and efficiency. I guess he’s tired of 15 yard Hail Mary’s.

  50. BigZ Says:

    Is this a Niner site?

  51. BigMacAttack Says:

I have no issues with Mike leaving. I don’t believe Licht wanted him to stay. It was time to let the youngsters play. Maybe the cooler weather will help Evans’ hamstring problems. Mike gave us all he had for years. I hope he succeeds out west. I still would not bet against Lynch, Licht & Evans all putting this deal together.

  52. Buc king Says:

Wish the worst on the 49ers hope the whole team gets injured

Jackie Slater always comes to my mind; He set an NFL record at the time by playing 20 seasons and only going to the pro bowl 7 of those seasons but none as 1st team all pro. He actually reminds me of Evans as both have crazy huge bodies compared to their peers.

But I know the ones most people bring up is Troy Aikman and Warren Moon.

AI gave me at receiver, Charlie Joyner, Isaac Bruce, and Andre Reed.

I don’t think ME is a sure thing especially with Davante Adams starting the same year as him. But I tend to think the HOF votes him in eventually.

  54. SlyPirate Says:

Is he “Demanding success” from the Bucs?

    He’s a 49er.

Sorry your girlfriend dumped you, Joe. Unfortunately no one cares.

  55. Buc1987 Says:

    lol 🙂

  56. Oscar Says:

Lakeland , 18.28 points per game over the last 7 games offensively for the Bucs. You must have had the same math teacher as the munchkins.
