Brock Purdy: Mike Evans “Is Demanding Success”
May 21st, 2026Everybody’s favorite former Buccaneers receiver has become a favorite with the 49ers, the team for which Mike Evans chose to play this season.
This week, San Francisco QB Brock Purdy was asked for an Evans update during a sitdown with NBC Sports Bay Area. He said he’s feeling the pressure of Evans’ win-now approach.
“He’s been awesome,” Purdy said. “Obviously, just what he’s done in his career, he’s a Hall of Famer, thousand-yard seasons — really year after year his whole career — he’s won a Super Bowl. Just like being around him and in his presence and understanding what it’s going to take to play with him. And just like, honestly, like the good pressure that it brings. Like, alright, ‘I have a guy that is demanding success and demanding to be great.’ And I love that. I want to play with guys like that.”
Purdy went on to talk about his excitement after working with Evans because he “sees the game like a quarterback does.”
The fifth-year QB talked about how the duo has been breaking down routes Evans ran with Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield. Evans has left Purdy impressed by Evans’ level of knowledge.
“I’m like, ‘Alright, this guy knows ball,'” Purdy said.
Joe wishes Evans well and hopes the 49ers lose by 30 to the Rams in Australia to open the season. Did Joe mention Evans made it public he’s uncomfortable on long flights?

Demand a first-class seat, Mike.

Yawn
May 21st, 2026 at 5:20 pm
When Evans needed 5 yds for the record, Bowles made the decision to throw it to him with the playoffs on the line. Mike didn’t return that loyalty, it’s all about him. So he’s dead to me.
May 21st, 2026 at 5:24 pm
Quut taking about Evans, this is a Bucs site.
May 21st, 2026 at 5:29 pm
You guys sound bitter.
He has every right to try sth new after last years pathetic defensive effort.
He has every right to play for a team with a sold out stadium.
Our stadium has no vibe. Opposing teams fans make more noise than our fans.
Our coach didn’t cut anybody last year during the season.
Our special teams was the worst I’ve ever seen in the NFL.
Our defense didn’t swarm. Didn’t hit. Didn’t care.
I’m happy for Mike and Christian McCaffrey.
I hope Mike has a great season.

I read on the internet that the Australian air reeks havoc with hamstrings.
May 21st, 2026 at 5:36 pm
‘Evans’ win-now approach.’
Evans KNEW the moment the news came out that the Bucs were keeping IBS as HC that The Bucs are NOT a win-now team!
May 21st, 2026 at 5:40 pm
Curse of Gruden… It’s the extremely dry air + the weirdness of being the southern hemisphere. Typhoons rotate backwards there… it’s witchcraft! ?
?
May 21st, 2026 at 5:48 pm
“Alright, This guy knows Ball”. Seriously. After thousands of yards that’s his take away?
Jeez. Hope he knows about hamstrings and how M1k3 can heal.
May 21st, 2026 at 5:49 pm
Tell me a first ballot hall of famer without first team all pros to their name. Jussssss sayinnn
May 21st, 2026 at 5:50 pm
December showed we were a defense lost in space.
I don’t blame Evans. I wish him well. He made the right business decision.
May 21st, 2026 at 5:53 pm
Yes less money with better coaching.
May 21st, 2026 at 6:04 pm
The OFFENSE sucked twice as much as the defense last season
16.8 ppg during the last 7 games ( 2-5) record
And these ppl talking about defensive failures

May 21st, 2026 at 6:13 pm
A site for misinformation
So, it’s the perfect Bucs site
May 21st, 2026 at 6:16 pm
Mike is the greatest offensive Buc of all time, its ok he getting articles, what else is there to talk about. Its a shame how Licht, Bowles and Baker ran him off. It doesn’t make sense that Mike and Baker were close and Mike believed in him, but he left anyway…to make less money.
Mike is gonna have a great season.
May 21st, 2026 at 6:18 pm
I love Mike Evans, but if I wanted 49er’s news, I would have gone to a 49er’s fan site. Please stick to Bucs news, Joe’s.
May 21st, 2026 at 6:21 pm
is he also demanding on coming out after more than 2 plays or if he head to run a pattern at full speed for more than 2o yards by tapping his helmet. He was great but it’s a New Era. Time to Turn the Page. And hey ME how do you like lovely San Fran? YUK
May 21st, 2026 at 6:21 pm
Telling the Joes what they should and shouldn’t talk about is as useless as Bowles Defensive End teaching technique.
I read this article on PFT a little earlier and just when I thought I was over Evans leaving, to read another teams QB boasting about him still stung.
One last note… This is a Bucs fan site and Mike Evans is a Buccaneers legend there for this is a Bucs article no matter how salty you are about Evans leaving!!!
May 21st, 2026 at 6:24 pm
Lakeland. That must be the reason the professionals that run our team has spent the offseason rebuilding our defense and leaving the offense alone. And here you’re telling us that the offense was twice as bad as the defense was last year? Somebody is a true Doofus around here, aren’t they, Lakeland?
May 21st, 2026 at 6:26 pm
3rd and 29 …..??
I would like to know the real story why the Defense collasped ??
May 21st, 2026 at 6:34 pm
Who? Former Bucs players don’t interest me. Lots of new young guys on the team to talk about!
May 21st, 2026 at 6:36 pm
@Win in the Trenches,
I think the real story is there was no consequences for substandard play. One of the alleged leaders of the defense admitted to loafing.
May 21st, 2026 at 6:42 pm
The offense was ranked 18th in points scored
The defense was ranked 20th in points allowed
Our high powered offense don’t need any upgrade
But, our pathetic defense need a serious overhaul

Only on a Bucs site!!!

Does Purdy know how to tie his shoes?
May 21st, 2026 at 6:53 pm
You misinformed ppl do realize there’s 32 teams in the NFL
So, an offense that’s ranked 18th out of 32, is considered (Below Average)
But, on this site, that offense is considered as an “Potent” offense
Lol ??

Who?
May 21st, 2026 at 7:04 pm
Mike is a win now mindset type of person. He goes after it daily.
Unlike the Bowles philosophy of eating Kit Kats until you look like a beached whale and doing soft walk thru drills instead of full pad practice.
Todd’s a lose first make excuses storm out and declare victory type of person.
We shall see who does better without the other to weigh them down.
May 21st, 2026 at 7:05 pm
“This guy know ball” ME13 had 1000 yard seasons when Brock was in middle school. Pretty sure Mike knows how to play. Silly statement.
May 21st, 2026 at 7:07 pm
I was just thinking today that we haven’t had a ME13 article in awhile. Glad to see Joe is back on ME13’s coat tails. Think we need at least 200 more ME13 update stories before the start of the season on JoeNinersfan.com.

If Brady had prioritized Evans, Evans might be 1st ballot. I understand his frustration.

Absolutely correct!

He will be on the sidelines most of the season nursing strain hamstrings and demanding success.
He is 50-50 Hall of Famer, look at his last ten years and see how he ranks with other receivers his contemporaries, not that great. If he makes to the Hall great, but he will have to ball out in SF to have any chance.
May 21st, 2026 at 8:52 pm
TO BAKERFAN:
Mike Evans is considered a virtual lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His case is backed by historic longevity and elite production:The 1,000-Yard Streak: He is only one of two players in NFL history to record at least 1,000 receiving yards in 11 consecutive seasons (joining Jerry Rice).Touchdown Dominance: He has amassed nearly 100 career receiving touchdowns, a number that historically cements receivers in Canton.Winning Pedigree: He was a foundational piece in winning a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and continues his career as a key playmaker after signing with the San Francisco 49ers.While wide receiver can sometimes be a logjammed position, his combination of a championship ring, incredible consistency, and top-tier all-time stats guarantees he will be enshrined after he retires.

Obviously Wayne isn’t a Bucs fan. ME a pos??? Really? Find another site, please
May 21st, 2026 at 9:23 pm
I love Mike Evans but I want him to regret leaving Tampa as much as Warwick Dunn did when he left for Atlanta right before we won our first superbowl. Only which we had a head coach capable of making that happen.
May 21st, 2026 at 9:27 pm
Again…. Mike Evans is going into the HOF as a Buc!
Same with the ROH!
May 21st, 2026 at 9:29 pm
And Joe….this IS a Bucs site like many are saying.

Mike Evans stuck with the Bucs through some pretty putrid seasons. He busted his butt for this team. Obviously he was disgusted with the effort of the defense, and was desperate for a more competitive environment, enough to take a pay cut and yank his family all away across the country. I would like to see him regret that decision, but I would also like to see him get four or five more thousand yard seasons and become a first ballot Hall of Famer. He deserves it. He didn’t put a curse on the Bucs on the way out the door like Doug Williams did back in the 1980s. He just packed up and left. I left Tampa in September of 1976, but I worked on the expansion of Tampa Stadium for the Bucs. I’ve been a fan of the team ever since. I will be a fan of Mike Evans as long as I live.

Is this a Niner site?
May 21st, 2026 at 10:11 pm
I have no issues with Mike leaving. I don’t believe Licht wanted him to stay. It was time to let the youngsters play. Maybe the cooler weather will help Evans’ hamstring problems. Mike gave us all he had for years. I hope he succeeds out west. I still would not bet against Lynch, Licht & Evans all putting this deal together.
May 21st, 2026 at 10:18 pm
Wish the worst on the 49ers hope the whole team gets injured
May 21st, 2026 at 10:25 pm
Jackie Slater always comes to my mind; He set an NFL record at the time by playing 20 seasons and only going to the pro bowl 7 of those seasons but none as 1st team all pro. He actually reminds me of Evans as both have crazy huge bodies compared to their peers.
But I know the ones most people bring up is Troy Aikman and Warren Moon.
AI gave me at receiver, Charlie Joyner, Isaac Bruce, and Andre Reed.
I don’t think ME is a sure thing especially with Davante Adams starting the same year as him. But I tend to think the HOF votes him in eventually.
May 21st, 2026 at 10:26 pm
Is he “Demanding success” from the Bucs?
He’s a 49er.
Sorry your girlfriend dumped you, Joe. Unfortunately no one cares.

Lakeland , 18.28 points per game over the last 7 games offensively for the Bucs. You must have had the same math teacher as the munchkins.

@ BigMac
“I have no issues with Mike leaving. I don’t believe Licht wanted him to stay.”
I agree…
It was time for ME13 to move on. The Niners are my #2 team so I hope he plays well in SF but I believe his best football is far behind him at this juncture.
He will make the HOF at some point maybe not his first year available but he will eventually get in the Hall and has earned it.
Do the Bucs win the SB without ME13? Probably not.
May 22nd, 2026 at 7:09 am
“I did my research on a lot of teams that I was looking at. I was looking at contenders, guys with good quarterbacks obviously,” Evans said Thursday. “So I was looking at here, Buffalo Bills, teams that needed a number one wide receiver. This was my number one spot on my own. And then I talked to John and Kyle and it solidified it for me. I’ve always been a fan of Kyle. He just talked about how he sees me in this offense and it just made me even happier. It was a no-brainer really after I got on the phone with him.”
Evans said he was impressed by San Francisco’s ability to go 12-5 and win a playoff game despite a litany of injuries to players like Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, Kittle, Pearsall and quarterback Brock Purdy among others.
“They always compete, even with the injuries last year.”
May 22nd, 2026 at 8:09 am
Wasn’t Mike Jason Licht’s first draft pick. It would be hard for me to believe that Licht wanted to see him leave. But, surely, something made him leave. It was not the money. I guess we will have to wait until Mike retires to learn the whole story.
May 22nd, 2026 at 8:48 am
Evans is a beast
May 22nd, 2026 at 8:57 am
He’ll pull a hamstring by week 4. Ride pine until week 7. Never make it back to 100%
May 22nd, 2026 at 9:32 am
@ BucsBeast
I agree.
That scenario would not surprise me at all…
But like I said – the Niners are my #2 team so I hope he stays healthy and plays well.
May 22nd, 2026 at 10:27 am
shocking and breaking news: A likely HoF receiver “knows ball” Hes gone guys….its ok…it happens. I wish him well but man this is the football news desert time of the year.
May 22nd, 2026 at 11:14 am
Yay. Another Mike Evans salt in the wound article. So exciting….
May 22nd, 2026 at 3:41 pm
In NFL terms he is old. The chance of him getting injured is very high, based on the trajectory of where he is in his career. Bucs offense will be fine without him. The Bucs problem was not losing Mike Evans, the Bucs problem is they have a below average head coach.
May 22nd, 2026 at 3:50 pm
Those tired old hamstrings next to a nuclear power plant what could go wrong
May 22nd, 2026 at 4:47 pm
I may be wrong, but I disagree that Evans moved because he wanted to make less money. I think the Bucs’ saying that they made a generous offer to him can probably be documented and shows good will on their part. However, the compensation on the other end is less easy to compute. Not only must we consider the specific contract (salary, bonuses, other compensation), which I have seen made public, but their are other opportunities in that other Bay Area for endorsements, TV shows, etc. Moreover, as he approaches middle age, such a large metropolitan area offers more potential employment, as well as a larger media audience base for his post-playing career. His wife, too, may find more interests and career prospects. At his stage of life, longer-term income becomes more important. Others may, and do, disagree. I just don’t think it’s an open and shut case that should be introduced by “obviously.”

If Mike turned down more money from the Bucs to play with a great qb for less money then the obvious is sitting right there for you. Plus I’m very much sure Mr. 3rd&28 still coaching the team had something to do with that decision as well.
We have Rod Munch Mr anti Baker extraordinaire and now the Baker Muncher Kenton Snuffy Smiff calling someone doofus because his feelings were hurt because Baker of course it’s inferred in any post downing the offense. Never fails girliemen calling names.
Bakerfan stop it. You love a short Napoleonic qb who’s basically a 50/50 qb and all you “guys”
May 23rd, 2026 at 10:21 pm
think he’s a super stud like Drew Brees but hasn’t really done a whole lot. Evans a Bucs icon and yes a future HOFer dissed your favorite little qb by moving to San Fran and you are butt hurt.
May 24th, 2026 at 8:28 am
I have absolutely no issues with Evans choosing to go to another team, as he is on record before our draft how good our WR room is and how much success he sees them having after he is no longer on the team.. This is a Buc choice, sure he could habe stayed and that would not allow his fellow Buc recivers as much opportunity, to have on field success, they can have without him on the roster.
Good luck in San Fran, Mr. Evans, hope to see you in the post season and we can see, what we got head to head.
GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!
