The Special Teams Build Up Continues
April 10th, 2026Joe’s not trying to be mean in any way. Anyone on an NFL squad is in the top 1 percent of humanity.
Joe is guessing these signings are strictly for special teams. The Bucs yesterday, per Adam Schefter of BSPN, signed veteran Kemon Hall, a cornerback by trade. Later, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported the Bucs signed fellow corner Chase Lucas.
Don’t worry if you don’t know the names. Despite Hall entering the league in 2019 and Lucas entering the league in 2022, neither has started an NFL game.
Last year Hall played for one of the most talentless teams in the NFL: Tennessee. In the offseason, the Titans hired defensive guru Mr. Clean to be their head coach and he apparently wanted to wipe the slate clean of Hall.
In three of his seven years in the league, Hall has been a practice squad guy. In only one season has he played in more than six games; that was 2021 –16 games for the Chargers.
Hall has played lots of special teams.
Same with Lucas. At least with Lucas, he was on a playoff team, San Francisco. Lucas played in 15 games last year with just over double the snaps on special teams as Lucas had on defense.
If Joe had to guess, Lucas would see the field as a corner before Hall.
These signings again demonstrate the Bucs are placing a lot of effort beefing up a truly sorry special teams unit in 2025 (there was nothing sorry about kicker Chase McLaughlin, the lone bright spot for the 2025 Bucs not-so-special teams).

Since the Special Bus was driven by a Special Needs goat last season, one would like to believe anything would be an improvement. Of course, the goat’s boss did nothing to drive any corrective action, so that’s a plus. Sign a few more dead goats. Playoffs.

Or…camp meat.
April 10th, 2026 at 12:33 am
Perfect players for Bowles Swiss cheese pass defensive scheme.
Super Bowl bound!!!!
April 10th, 2026 at 1:22 am
Clearly bottom of the roster depth for either special teams or camp or both. Would be shocked if either made the team unless they’re an elite special steamer.
April 10th, 2026 at 2:48 am
Ohh — LMAO! “….elite special steamer.”
Note subtle, but inciteful!
April 10th, 2026 at 2:50 am
And obviously insightful! Still LMAO!

Joe has a short memory. Early last season was calling for McLaughlins head

Joe … ‘Last year Hall played for one of the most talentless teams in the NFL: Tennessee.’
And you started off so well Joe, confidently declaring right up-front that you weren’t ‘trying to be mean in any way’. And then poor 3-14 Tennessee gets slammed for being ‘talentless’. Somehow I get the feeling that you had trouble ‘playing nice’ on the grammar school courtyards, but hey, just a guess.
Neither one of these signings makes a bit of sense. Hall did OK on S/Ts last season: 70 S/T snaps with 9 solo tackles. And in his 66 def snaps he was perfect: targeted 11 times & allowed 11 completions (100%).
Chase Lucas did better in terms of coverage (98 def snaps with 11 targets & 7 completions for 68.8%) but his 204 S/T snaps but he only had 9 total tackles (6 solo) on the year & I doubt that even half of those were on S/Ts.
Bucs only had 3 CBs to start the season (McCollum, Morrison & Parrish). We NEED solid DEPTH since Morrison & McCollum together missed 11 games last season. Neither Lucas nor Hall fill that square. I’ll be quite surprised if either make the opening day roster.

Smoke screen to disuade other teams from trading ahead of Bucs for McCoy.
April 10th, 2026 at 5:59 am
When someone starts out “ I’m not trying to be mean “ well ?
April 10th, 2026 at 6:10 am
They’re going to compete against Josh Hayes for a CB/ST role
This training camp will have a lot of competition at every position
I love it
April 10th, 2026 at 6:45 am
R-E-L-A-X! Ever heard of camp bodies?
April 10th, 2026 at 6:52 am
Dr, helpful stat chasing would be comparing their 6 and 9 tackles to what other guys in the position range got tackle wise on special teams. I bet we have a few special teamers from last season that didn’t get six or nine tackles… probably more like two or three. Maybe they’re replacements are some real special teams loafers, which we had to have had last season.Or maybe, the film shows that they can actually block during field goal attempts and punts. We obviously had huge problems blocking on special teams last season. I don’t remember that ever being a problem for the buc.to this level. If these two guys are tenacious with blocking and their tackle totals on special teams is higher then some of the last season special teamers and Danny Smith saw something special on film of these two, welcome to the team.

Anyone on an NFL squad is in the top 1 percent of humanity. Lmao. No. Just…no. There is no 24 year old on earth, especially one that comes from the hood that I ever want to spend more than 3 minutes with, with the vast majority of them being good at one thing and one thing only. 99.999% of them are not prodigy’s. Caitlin Clark is a prodigy because she is clearly gifted and doesn’t carry herself or speak like any 22yr old. A young tiger woods, etc. Those are the kind of people who are the extreme exception to the norm. Most are out of the league in 4 years, they live in an average cookie cutter neighborhood, they stop working out, get fat. I would say the guy that’s made over 200k for 15 yrs, still works out two hours per day is much much higher achiever with an elite temperament, discipline and decision making required to have a high degree of success

DR. Is Joe not playing nice again? Might be he’s not gonna grow out of that, you reckon?
April 10th, 2026 at 7:31 am
Camp body’s nothing more
April 10th, 2026 at 8:07 am
nothing to see here really – McCollum Parrish Morrison are locks and the team will probably carry 5 CBs – maybe Tom-Brady-hand-puppet Jason Licht drafts another one and Toilet Bowles has a competition in training camp for the final 2 spots – yawn
April 10th, 2026 at 8:40 am
looks like we’ll be drafting a Safety and a CB
GO BUCS!!!!
April 10th, 2026 at 9:00 am
Yes let’s hope these are ST guys because as far as corners go, they are pretty poor addition to a Unit that is already awful. Let’s hope they do play in the secondary.
April 10th, 2026 at 9:15 am
Yeah, real mean. Called the worst team in the league “talentless.” The gall of Joe!
Next thing you know, Joe might be really harsh and call the Super Bowl champs talented.
April 10th, 2026 at 9:18 am
Lucas is a slot CB and has played well in preseason
April 10th, 2026 at 11:13 am
Amen. Special teams costs us a playoff spot.
Coaching malpractice imo
April 10th, 2026 at 12:03 pm
Colin’s mock draft 2.0 yesterday, had the Bucs taking the local Safety from Lakewood HS. I remember him playing there!!!!
April 10th, 2026 at 12:09 pm
DR, Kenton
Ikr? I merely call out Bud Licht for what he is… and I get edited and handed veiled threats…
Oh the gall of Jmarkbuc…
April 10th, 2026 at 12:09 pm
Joe says…. Joe’s not trying to be mean in any way. Anyone on an NFL squad is in the top 1 percent of humanity.
Come on Joe…. the way some of these guys act it is questionable if they they are humans.
April 10th, 2026 at 12:49 pm
Hey nobody is giving The Great Leader credit for having any ability to coach players up. Obviously it helps if they have some talent. I mean look how well Bowles developed Devin White.
Oh, wait
April 10th, 2026 at 2:09 pm
Which one of these 2 DB’s is the one that Joe referenced Bowies had a crush in his voice about from the owner’s meetings….
April 10th, 2026 at 2:20 pm
Bull. You were over the top and got personal. And if you don’t know what “over the top” is, then you learn the hard way and get edited or deleted. And you are the worst offender (which is one reason why you are on permanent moderation).
At the end of the day, this site is a business. And yeah, the Goo-gal does ding Joe for comments that get out of hand. Once someone starts reaching in Joe’s pocket, that’s when Joe has to take steps.

3 phases to a good football team.
The Bucs offense should be very good with their oline and weapons. Gainwell is an upgrade. Robinson is an upgrade. And a healthy Gowdin, a healthy J Mac and a more seasoned version of the rookie WRs will help.
ST were bad last year..horrible actually. An big upgrade in coaching and some new players will help and I expect a big improvement.
Now for the defense. Hard to make an argument they could be much worse than last year. They have improved the DL with Robinson and Nacho. Slightly improved the edge with Mohammed. LBer should have better depth forcing SVD out of the starting lineup. If they can bring in 2 impactful starters at LBer and either edge or CB, the defense could be better.
This draft has to be about adding impact players on defense, no matter what position that may be.
