“He Is Going To (Eff) Some Human Beings Up This Year”

April 30th, 2026

Seems scared of Rueben Bain.

When he played for the Titans, former left tackle Taylor Lewan, who was a three-time Pro Bowler, was a nasty SOB to tangle with. He backed down from no one.

But if he was still in the league, Lewan suggested he’d have second thoughts if he had to lock horns with Bucs rookie Rueben Bain.

Warren Sapp had a great saying to Chucky when he thought Chucky was running trick plays on the Bucs defense in practice. “If you’re scared, say you’re scared!”

Joe thinks Lewan, co-host of the popular podcast “Bussin’ with the Boys,” is scared of Bain.

“When you watch these guys get drafted, they got the hat off, they put it on, they look at themselves a little bit, and it’s a cheery music,” Lewan explained. “When Ruben Bain gets drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he walks by, snatches the hat and doesn’t even stop in the mirror to look at it.

“And you’re just like, ‘This motherf***er is out for blood.’ Like he is going to f**k some human beings up this year.

“I have never been so happy to be out of the NFL my entire life after watching this guy get to the league. Praise God, praise Jesus, I’m not in the league right now.”

That is major glossing right there by Lewan. It certainly was a helluva rasslin’ show Bain put on.

If he is half as scary as he looked walking to the stage, the Bucs have something on their hands. When is the last time an opponent was scared of someone on the Bucs defense, Ndamukong Suh maybe?

I would argue Suh’s defensive presence, his temperament, etc was as important to that defense as Brady was to the offense. Suh WAS the identity, he is the player that was feared and everyone else followed suit. Vea was better when he was around and less…kinda laisez faire/goofy that vea can be, and he made everyone around him better – and it was the very last time the Bucs defense in general was viewed as intimidating. In another life where im fortunte to be a GM he is the kind of guy that I would start with when building a football team. Tone setter and identity over everything

  2. Fanofdabucs Says:

I think Kancey and Bain will feed off each other. Please just let God bless these guys with avoiding injury.

There is no reason with Bain, Vita, Kancry and YaYa, that the Bucs cant have a top 15 defense this year. If this defense continues to be in the bottom half of the league, I expect Bowles to be shown the door.

  3. JimBobBuc Says:

Bain will create fear for opposing OLs and QBs. His pressures and QB hits will help the secondary, but the secondary needs to complement him with tighter coverage. Last year, the sacks were lacking because QBs could dump the ball to wide-open receivers as they felt pressure – so no sacks and no incompletions. The Bucs need complementary play between the rushers and coverage guys.

i agree…and i’ll take it a step further and say JPP was the mouthpiece….

Suh was going to intimidate the OL while JPP was going to talk smack!!!…i think we have that in Bain and Scott…

Bain will be feared and Scott will bring that intensity…still gotta put it all together on the field but at least we have 2 less good guys on the defense lol

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. Bojim Says:

I’m tired hearing about his short arms. Bain is angry still hearing about it. Hes gonna be one tough mutha with a huge chip on his shoulder. Can’t wait!

  6. Stpetematt Says:

“Play for blood….thats exactly my game.”

Cannot wait to see Bain out there. Going to be fun!

  7. Tom Edrington Says:

what he meant was he’s afraid to ride in the passenger seat with Bain driving.

  8. Guzzie55 Says:

Favorite part of the whole draft was Bain snatching that hat and passing the mirror, 1st to ever do that and it was awesome

  9. Hawk Says:

I don’t understand the ‘short arms’ issue. Having short arms didn’t seem to affect the dominance of the T-Rex. (Maybe a nickname for Bain?)

  10. Fred McNeil Says:

    Suh is one bad dude.

  11. garro Says:

    Wow Joe!
That is impressive! So tired of all the so called draft experts opinions which mean very little to this fan. Hope that was not some podcast hype from Lewan. Can hardly wait for the pads to go on!

    Go Bucs!

Reuben Bain feels he has a lot to prove
That’s a deep motivation, he will be a force to be reckon with

Brian Bosworth had that same swagger ! Let’s see how it goes when he faces 300lb men every sunday .Im sure Wirfs looking forward to it…How exciting!

Suddenly all Bucs are happy, excited and loyal …

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Like I said draft night when Bain was not smiling, Bucs may have found their Warren Sapp the 2nd. All he said was, I’m ready. When I hit the field, its going to be poppin. I told my wife then, this guy has beastly and predator qualities. Winner in town!

  19. Steven007 Says:

Steve V, He’s been facing 300 lb guys on Saturday. Now it’ll be the next day. Really curious to see how he adapts to the nuances of veteran. NFL offensive lineman. Someone yesterday couldn’t understand my conjecture regarding the fact that he’ll essentially be facing a more consistently good version of the guys he’s already been facing in college. Yes, there will be a transition obviously. But I’ve seen nothing to convince me that he won’t adapt quickly with his attitude and skills.

    ^^^^^^^^

Did I miss something? Who’s Kancey? Does he play for the Bucs? If so, when?

  21. Kidfloflo Says:

If I was Bowles, id hang pictures in Bains locker before every game of him with superimposed T- Rex or baby doll arms hanging out of sleeves and never tell him who it was….just to feed the anger and intensity of this silly meaningless measurement and get out.of his.way!!! Haaahaaa

  22. Buc Fan in Phoenix Says:

Does Bain have potential? YES. But let us not crown him yet. The NFL is a big jump from the college competition he has played against. And that is a very fair and true statement. What has me even more concerned about Bain is not only jumping from college to the NFL. The bigger question is can he grow, improve, and adjust to the NFL under Todd Bowles? I wish the kid the best I really do but I am not getting my hopes up.

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Fanofdabucs … ‘There is no reason with Bain, Vita, Kancry and YaYa, that the Bucs cant have a top 15 defense this year.’

Personally believe that we’ll get back to being a Top-10 defense, but only because Todd Bowles will change his defensive schemes big-time to be able to take advantage of what our revamped DLine gives him in terms of talent, beef & aggressiveness. I’m willing to bet that we’ll see a LOT more 4 & 5 man rushes to pressure the QB. Also willing to bet that Bowles will work hard trying to keep guys ‘fresher’ and use them more situationally.

o Vea did OK last year (4.5 sacks, 13 QB hits, 7 TFL, 34 tackles) but he was grossly over-used (763 def snaps in 17 games, far more than his 560 def snaps per season average for his first 7 years). That hurt our defense IMO, because you could see a lot of plays where he struggled just to maintain position, forget pass rush. The big guy needs more time to catch his breath.

o RNR will help. Rakeem missed 8 games last season because of ankle, toe & foot injuries, and that’s concerning. Yet he still contributed 3 sacks, 4 QB hits, 3 TFLs & 23 tackles in the 241 def snaps in the 9 games he did play in for the Giants. Those are decent numbers for a rotational NT/DT playing in less than 25% of the def snaps.

o Capehart will help even more. Between him & RNR, there’s no reason Bucs can’t keep the NT position fresh. Fully expect that Capehart will also be used to spell Robinson to keep him relatively fresh also. I think our new rookie NT/DT is gonna become a big part of this DLine as the year goes on.

o Robinson is the player I’m most excited about having join our DLine. He’s never had a huge number of sacks in his career, EXCEPT in the past 2 yrs playing for the Panthers (in those 2 seasons he had a total of 8 sacks, 16 QB hits, 11 TFLs & an incredible 145 tackles, 64 of those solo, all in 1419 def snaps). I guess it’s all in how you’re being used. I fully expect that he’ll set the tone for our DLine and become its ‘Field General’.

o Elijah Roberts acquitted himself pretty well last year as a rookie DT/DE. He gave us 507 def snaps, along with 2 sacks, 5 QB hits, 2 TFL, 14 tackles plus 1 FF & 3 PD (I won’t ask). I don’t believe he’ll see that many def snaps this season, but he’ll still be a quality rotational guy.

o Kancey is the DT/DE who really has me scratching my head. Last season was a total waste, but in his first 2 seasons with us he showed incredible promise in the 26 games he played in (11.5 sacks, 29 QB hits, 21 TFLs, 54 tackles with 41 of them solo, all in 1118 def snaps). Obviously when he’s healthy he’s a force. HOPEFULLY he be used further out & be able to stay healthier.

Of those 6 DLinemen, I’m hoping that Bowles keeps at least 3 of them on the field at all times. No more of this going with only 2 DLinemen formations. There’s no reason our Bucs can’t have a much better pass rush AND play better Run Defense with the guys we’ve now got. And I’m convinced that keeping them ‘fresh’ will also keep them healthier AND help them to be a LOT more productive.

  27. Smashsquatch Says:

Love, love, loved his hat grab and vibe on draft day. Couldn’t agree more with Lewan. Reminds me so much of Sapp, and he can play anywhere on the line. Can’t wait to see him unleash that ornery motor on the rest of the league.

  28. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The only way Bain will make a difference on this line is if Bowles changes his scheme and allow the linemen to get after the qb instead of covering rbs or TEs . Hold your breath if you think think that’ll happen

  29. buc4evr Says:

i think at this point it is all pre season hype. Let’s see what happens when Bain goes up against some solid experienced NFL linemen. Obviously there is going to be a learning curve and as a rookie he may not meet everyone’s high expectations in his first season.

  30. Bucco Bruce Says:

I’m honestly pretty happy and excited for all the picks tbh. Problem is at least 3 of the guys fit specifically into Bowles defensive scheme and if he fails this year and those guys don’t show they have more to offer we burned a 2nd,4th,and 5th. Let’s hope regardless of Bowles results all these picks are future contributors to the team in the long run because there is talent there.

  31. Teacherman Says:

    813 Buc Boi nailed it.

JPP was the mouthpiece. Suh was the silent killer.

I still remember Aaron Rodgers pissing off Suh.

An angry Suh was a scary site!

But you guys forget we also had Gholston cracking skulls on every snap.

Gholston was a beast. He played hard every single snap.

    BINGO!!!!!

    Big Will was our HAMMER!!!!….

I think A.Robinson will fill that role!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

    ******************************************

Good thing he’ll be going up against Luke and Wirfs…cant get much better than that…

We depended on Wirfs as a rookie and he went up against Shaq and JPP for months to prepare him….turned out pretty good

    GO BUCS!!!!

  34. David Says:

    Kancey, Vea, Bain, Yaya

Plus the backups… Nacho, Roberts, Robinson, …. A couple signings and one draft pick… This entire defensive line COULD be on the verge of changing to a dominant force.

    LFG!!!
