Report: John Harbaugh Likes Jamel Dean

March 6th, 2026

“Hey Jamel, you’d look good in this helmet.”

Seems the Giants struck out on trying to swing a deal for Chiefs corner Trent McDuffie, who was shipped to Los Angeles this week. And now, new Giants coach John Harbaugh (who reportedly piqued the interest of Team Glazer earlier this year) apparently has set his sights on Jamel Dean.

The veteran Bucs corner reworked his contract a year ago and as a result, is now a free agent. Per SNYtv Giants reporter Connor Hughes, Harbaugh’s mouth is watering over Dean.

Joe will put this as simply as possible: If Harbaugh wants to sign one of your starters, you may want to reassess letting him hit the open market.

With Zyon McCollum cratering and Benjamin Morris really struggling his rookie year, “this Joe” does not think the Bucs can afford to let Dean walk. Sure, they could put Jacob Parrish on the outside corner, but do you trust McCollum or Morrison to lock down the other outside corner position?

That works for me! I don’t know how we pay for all these guys, but signing all of them plus our draft picks definitely makes the Bucs a SB contender in ’26.

As of this month, the Bucs have roughly $11 million to $20 million in available salary cap space. So at the high end of $20 million, this amount must cover the upcoming draft class, practice squad, and in-season moves, likely leaving them with about $7–$10 million in actual usable space.

    Who? bye

    draft Lorenzo Styles…mfs

If Harbaugh wants Dean, then he should go get him. Afterwards maybe he can help tape his ankles, knees or other injuries. The Bucs should have traded him earlier for ANYTHING. Mismanagement again…..

  5. MadMax Says:

heh, i just did that pff rod was talking about earlier….got TE Sadiq 1st and G Pregnon 2nd (who i watched and will be a beast)….man, if those two can happen, look out! But so many scenarios….my push for Ioane might have to take a back seat with this one.

If the Giants do sign Dean, they will definitely use him properly and play press man.

    5th qb sawyer robertson

  10. MadMax Says:

ok, 4th DT Zane Durant ….dont know whats going on with this pff simulator

  11. Fred McNeil Says:

We should actually try to keep Dean at least another year or two. He’s not bad when he’s healthy. Morris is even more fragile than Dean. McCollum is more athlete than footballer. Hayes? No thanks. We will need Dean this year if he isn’t dead-set on leaving. It looks on the surface that the Giants aren’t quite swimming in cap space, but you can’t really guess what they might to do with zombie voodoo gris-gris, juju and tanna leaves to bring that roster back to life. He’s well worth $12-15 million. Maybe $16.

  12. Football 1 Says:

Yes agree the thought of Morrison and McColumn starting at corner sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. If that is your starting tandem you better get one heck of a defensive line because those two are going to be exploited big time otherwise. Yes , Dean gambled and won , so yes they need him more than Dean needs the Bucs at this point!!!!

  13. Badbucs Says:

Dean and R. White are out the door. He took a giant pay cut to become FA this year. I don’t know if being buddies with Bowles is enough to smooth it over. There are only so many guys we can keep paying 15 mil. Looks like rookie or cheap FA to me.

  14. Gipper Says:

Dean can go and take McCollum with him. One of the worst pass defenses I have ever seen can surely do without these alleged “great corners.” McCollum was praised prior to last season as a great corner until he signed a big contract and everyone found out what should have been obvious. Dean is great so long as nobody cares about coverage or tackling. He doesn’t do either very well.

  15. Badbucs Says:

There are several decent younger CB FAs available for pretty cheap this year at low risk. Might be why they were willing to part with Dean. You could pick up a couple of them. Asante Samuel. Jonah Williams, Rasul Douglas and others.

  16. Joe Says:

We should actually try to keep Dean at least another year or two.

Which buys time for McCollum to get his head straight and/or for Benjamin Morrison to prove his worth.

If the Bucs don’t upgrade at edge rusher — and, sadly, Joe has zero confidence they will — and you’ve got McCollum and Benjamin as your starting corners, Katie bar the door!

i do not see dean pressing any man in the bucs front office for a new contract 🙂

he knows the time has come to rock out on another team’s IR

Stick to Baker worship sweetheart, you’re out of your depth here

-Dean’s allowed passer rating of 22.8 at mid-season 2025 was 9.4 points lower than any cornerback in the last eight seasons.

-Between December 2023 and late 2025, Dean went over 740 coverage snaps without allowing a single touchdown.

-Quarterbacks targeting Dean recorded a league-low 46.9 passer rating. Early-season tracking even saw this number dip as low as 20.8 after elite performances against WR1s in Week 6

-In 2025, he was noted for having only four targets all season that gained more than 10 yards, illustrating his ability to eliminate the deep ball.

    – Dean allowed just 4.6 yards per target in 2025. His total of 105 YAC allowed over 14 games is one of the lowest marks for a full-time starter in the league, bolstered by his 42.1% completion rate allowed

This partly why he’s being coveted as a free agent, chump.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

The scouts in the comments here have told me repeated that Dean, ‘sux’, ‘ain’t good’ and is a ‘bum’.

Harbaugh is a moron to go against them.

  20. Jmarkbuc Says:

He’ll like him even more when he gets to know him personally, while he’s sitting on the bench, “injured”

Really really bad take. Dean allowed the lowest completion percentage of ANY CORNER in the league last year.

I hope Jason makes the call on this one. He saw the secondary perform with and without Dean. He knows who coaches (?) the secondary, the defense and the team. Time for Jason to do the GM stuff. Sign him.

Gipper is a Baker Boi, with that comes an extremely low IQ and terrible takes. This dope thinks every one on the Bucs not named Baker is the reason they lost, and they all got to go, Baker is king, our Lord and savior and would be better off being allowed to play alone than have other people weight him down.

He’s played, on average, 14 games each year.
