Family Was A Key Factor Why Lavonte David Retired

Daddy duties.

To see Bucs icon Lavonte David dote on his little daughter, Logan, before Bucs games, it was clear she means the world to him. So much so David didn’t deny she was a big reason why he’s no longer an NFL player.

Earlier this offseason, when appearing on “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast co-hosted by his former Nebraska teammate Will Compton, David had noted he was enjoying taking his daughter to school each day and that she didn’t want him playing football any longer.

Joe was damn near convinced upon hear that the days of David being on the Bucs roster was numbered.

And while David didn’t say yesterday he retired specifically to spend more time with her, he did admit it was a factor.

“I feel it’s time to move on and find a different path in life, mainly being a dad to that amazing little girl over there,” David said. “She’s changed my life so much.

“People always talk about, ‘Man, you need to have a daughter. You need to have a daughter.’ You never understand it. I’m like, ‘Why do you want me to have a daughter so bad?’ Being a masculine man, you want to have a son. I want a son so he can follow in my footsteps and so I can help him become a man.’

“Little did I know that having a girl helped me become a man – having to understand what’s important in life. She definitely does that daily. I’m thankful. I’m sure she [doesn’t] understand right now, but when she looks back, she’ll see.

“It’s an incredible journey, an incredible time in my life, to be able to raise her to be an incredible young woman and be the best person in the world and be kind, be generous, be loving and be caring to people you come across. I see it in her already. I just hope that I can continue to do that.”

In his farewell speech from One Buc Palace yesterday, David displayed, maybe even shocked some, how eloquent and classy of a guy David is.

We all knew David was a class act. But that farewell speech was a display for the world to see he’s not just the Bucs’ “I Am That Man,” but David is the man everyone should strive to be.
