Media Selling Mike Evans To Buffalo

February 19th, 2026

Regular readers here know Joe monitors alll things Bucs from all corners of the football universe.

And Joe has noticed a trend the past two days, from multiple BSPN roundtable shows to insider chats on CBS Sports HQ to SiriusXM NFL Radio and beyond; the national media is having a fun time selling Mike Evans moving on from the Bucs and signing with the Bills. Joe also heard plenty when sampling Buffalo sports radio.

The thought of this is almost ridiculous.

So Evans is going to want to move on to a team with no quality wide receivers, where he’ll be double-teamed relentlessy? Why would he want that?

Also, in addition to Evans being a warm-weather guy from South Texas, the new Buffalo stadium opening this year is not a dome, and it will have natural grass with a unique underground heat and irrigation system. That screams of a looming turf disaster come late fall. And you don’t have to be a medical expert to know cold is hardly ideal for a guy like Evans with shaky hamstrings.

The Bills also have a new head coach, which means the team is free to report back to work early on April 6, per NFL rules. That’s a quick turnaround for Evans, who likely wouldn’t want to pull a Haason Reddick and turn his nose up on his new team and skip spring workouts.

Joe cannot find a bunch of reasons why Evans would see a better NFL life with the Bills, especially if he only wants to play one more year.

Still, Joe expects the national types to keep screaming about an Evans-Bills marriage. And the Chiefs chatter will continue, too, even if Patrick Mahomes is only two months removed from knee reconstruction surgery.

I hope he goes somewhere where he gets a chance to win. Screw Bowles. And since when are you a grass expert????

  2. zzbucs Says:

I would hate to watch ME13 with another jersey, but makes all the sense of the world, we can not keep that much money committed to WR, with so many holes on D…..

Hard to swallow, but we have to………

  3. Dom Says:

It would be a great fit but I just dont see it with the Bills currently being 12M over the cap. As I said yesterday I think his best fits if he leaves both contender wise and cap situation wise would be the Seahawks, Patriots, or 49ers. Chargers could be in play too. I don’t see Mike being primarily money motivated. He is going to be legacy motivated. Wanting a chance to get another ring and to pile up the stats. He’s a couple good seasons away from being top 5 all time in receiving yards and TD’s

  4. 813bucboi Says:

Have a friend in H-Town….their fan base is pretty much sold that Mike will come home and play for the texans…idk lol…

i think HOU is the team to worry about regarding Mike

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    why buffalo?…lol…

josh allen is a playoff choke artist lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  6. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

The Bills & Texans have less money to spend then we do, and by less I mean they’re both in the red right now and are over the cap.

  7. #1bucsfan Says:

Only one good thing about playin for the bills and that would be Josh Allen. Highly doubt he goes there. Chiefs were worse than the Bucs last year and that was before mahomes tore his ACL. They do have a great coach and an elite QB but it’s hard to imagine mahomes being ready. He tore it late in the year. It’s like a 9 month process but players have come back sooner so who knows. Like what 813 said Texans might be our biggest concern. For crowed still crying about Bowles let’s just be clear Evans has played for worse coaches and yet he still didn’t leave cause of the coach. I highly doubt he’s leaving cause of Bowles.

  8. Truth be Told Says:

Oh Yeah, he will just love the weather there. Especially the winters. Plus, I thought he wanted to win a Super Bowl? We all know that will never happen in that Snakebit town. I know-I am from there originally. Bucs fan first. ME is not going anywhere. The Bucs winning their division and having a path should be good enough for him especially with all the $ he has already earned in his career.

  9. Bee Says:

Why would Mike leave one turnover happy QB for another turnover happy QB?

  10. 813bucboi Says:

Having less or no money never stopped competent or competitive GMs

AFC SOUTH is similar to the NFC South…HOU adding Mike would make them a near lock to win that division

    GO BUCS!!!!

  11. Allen Lofton Says:

The reason why these forecasters predict Buffalo getting Evans in free agency is they are willing to throw anything up against the the and see 👀 what sticks. They Don’t know what they are talking about but that doesn’t ✋️ them from writing nonsense. They only care about making some money.

    Just ignore them.

  12. JohnQCitizen Says:

    Maybe they’ll take Dean instead.

  13. #99 the big fella Says:

Mike is not going to play in that weather after being in Florida this long.

  14. Bejeezusbelt Says:

Most importantly, Buffalo doesn’t have the cap space needed with dumping even more of roster than they already need to.

  15. Fanofdabucs Says:

Houston has Niko Collins set to make 27 mil and they just drafted 2 WRs, one of which is a Mike Evans clone. They also still have Tank Dell.

Houston doesn’t have cap space and they need to spend money to upgrade their oline, which hot destroyed in the playoffs.

  16. LynchMob50 Says:

ME doesn’t want to leave Tampa and miss out on Bowles championship defense.

Every year they set records the likes of which the NFL has never seen a defense do.

It really is a pleasure to watch them on Sundays. Way better than the 2002 version.

Bowles is better than Dungy at building and coaching defense.

First ballot hall of famer. Better HC than Billy B.

  17. MadMax Says:

Good luck Mike, go chase a ring with a real HC….its not happening here this year at least….they dont care….want to play stupid games.

  18. catcard202 Says:

It’s NFL media silly season – Journalists need click bait filler between now & FA….Then they will need click bait filler after FA before the draft…It’s just the normal cycle.

WTS, I could see Mike going to Buffalo or any number of other teams willing to overpay to get him. I could see team Glazer allowing the FO to overpay Mike to stay in Tampa. It’s all up in the air right now – all the while Mike’s agent is trying to chum the FA water.

Personally, I would suggest that the Bucs should not resign him due to clear red flags with his age-performance decline metrics…(2025 “when healthy” game performance measured against years of comparable data points for other 33yr old WR’s).

But they way this FO overvalues their own and generally sticks with “their guy” 1-2 yrs too long vs cutting bait 1-2yrs too early – it’s likely Mike returns even if the data screams it will be a bad investment.

  19. PSL Bob Says:

As I said in another post, he’s not going anywhere. The non-football-related issues regarding his departure say he’s staying put. He and is family are too rooted in Tampa now to bug out this late in his career. His agent is just stirring the pot to get Mike more money.

  20. Brooks Says:

    Good for him

  21. adam from ny Says:

lol…mike will injure his hammy just getting off the plane for the interview…

and he will not like the icicles hanging off his earlobes under his helmet in december…possibly even november…

and by january he won’t be able to run at all because his balls will be frozen to his legs…

    real talk yall…real talk

  22. View from 132 Says:

The Bucs have 99 problems and WR is not one. He’s old. He’ll be a Hall of Fame Buc when he’s done. Move on.

  23. adam from ny Says:

houston or dallas could be an option…

honestly mike would look pretty cool in a cowboys uni…

    he ain’t winning sh!t there tho…

but like why would he go back to houston anyway…isn’t tampa like home to mike at this point anyway…and mike has simply really leveled up in life…is houston and his youthful past really his home…or is he balling like a big dog in a low key fashion, and living well in florida…i guess that’s for big mike to decide…

buffalo could be described as a place new yorkers go when they’re banished and broke,,,saying it for a friend…

    and…

i really think mike would love to win another superbowl in tampa, on a brady-less team

  24. OLDSCHOOL Says:

Dallas? You don’t know what you’re talking about. Maybe KC otherwise he stays here

  25. JA Says:

I get it, who would want Buffalo?
Why go to a city where they fill the house with HOMETOWN FANS during home games?
Why go to a city where they fired their head coach after a 12-5 regular season?
Why go to a city where the pre-season practices are in the 70’s instead of the mid 90’s with near 100% humidity?
Why go to a city where the September home games are sold out when a September home game in Tampa is akin to being boiled alive?
Why move to a city where ownership would do next to ANYTHING to get to and win a Super Bowl?
And finally, this: Why go to a city that does not have Todd Bowles as their head coach?
There are two sides to every coin.
I don’t know Mike Evans, and neither do those who speak for him in your posts. Most older players make decisions with their familles in mind. Then comes work. If I were him, and I had the blessing of my family to spend a year or two trying to win someplace else, I’d bolt in a heartbeat.
And I hate writing those words, but Bucs ownership has spoken: WE ARE THRILLED WITH MEDIOCRITY!
The only ‘Bowl’ lurking around the Bucs has an ‘es’ stuck on the end, not the word ‘Super’ before it.

  26. BucfaninMi Says:

If he doesn’t stay, either San Diego or Buffalo, I’d even be a little excited

  27. HC Grover Says:

    Money and Possible Super Bowl.

  28. Optimistic Says:

Just looked at the teams cap space. Crossed off the non-contenders. Teams that are close to being able to go to the SB include Seattle with 63 million in cap space, Cincinnati with 52 million, LA Rams with 45 million, NE with 35 million, Denver with 26 million and Baltimore with 22 million. If Evans goes elsewhere, these are the teams that can afford him and have a chance to get another ring.

  29. Optimistic Says:

Add SF to that list with 22 million.

  30. Chuckys Bucs Says:

I’m not sure he would want to play in that weather with his hamstring issues – cold is not kind to old injuries.

Raiders or Bucs and that’s it.

  31. BucsfaninOregon Says:

He’s a perfect fit for the 49rs. As a takeoff from JA:

Who would want to leave for the most perfect climate YEAR ROUND in the US?
(Santa Clara- -5 miles from my childhood home!)

Who would want to work with an offensive GENIUS like Shanahan?

Who would want to work for a team that strives for the SB EVERY year?

Who would want to go to a team where there are fanatic fans that fill the stadium?

Who would want to go to a team that would publicly crucify any defensive coach to allow “The third and forever” success?

A possible problem- -the 49rs recently hired Leftwich as their DC!

  32. Daryl Green Says:

Two years guaranteed 25per. Playing with J.A.50 mill tickets. They are going to the playoffs. Then I will retire.🤙🏾
