Joey Bosa And The Bucs

February 3rd, 2026

The shakeup of the Buffalo Bills after the firing of head coach Sean McDermott raises the likelihood of five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Joey Bosa looking for work in five weeks when the free agency dinner bell rings.

The Bucs could use him.

Yes, the Bucs could use just about anyone at edge rusher, but Bosa passed the eye test for at least part of last season even though he had just five sacks.

A year ago, Bosa signed a one-year deal with the Bills, very similar to what Haason Reddick got from the Bucs. No, Reddick will not be on the Tampa Bay roster next season. Joe dancing on tour with GloRilla is more likely.

Bosa is an interesting wild card. He won’t cost a fortune ($10 million plus incentives?) but he’s an impact kind of player, though he faded in January.

And while Bosa, who turns 31 in July, has been sort of a cross between a full-time and part-time player the past two seasons, Joe thinks the Bucs might have no issue with that given how they are excited to see what 2025 draft pick David Walker can do, and it’s likely they still want to give Chris Braswell one more chance to shine.

Also, if the Bucs draft an edge rusher, Bosa seems like an ideal veteran to have around for the young pass rushers.

While Joe would applaud the Bucs going big at edge rusher, they’re probably looking for veteran value without a long-term commitment. That could be Bosa.

    Nope

I said this last year. Bucs, day late and a dollar short.

  3. kgh4life Says:

    injury prone, enough said.

  4. OrlandoBucFan Says:

    Juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

  5. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Oh Hell no.

  6. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    NOPE!

  7. adam from ny Says:

gonna have to figure out a way to draft 2 edge guys and 2 ilb’s…

and hit on 50% of them…

2 out of 4 would actually be good…lol

    #WeCanDoThis šŸ™‚

  8. adam from ny Says:

imagine drafting 5 edge guys and 2 ilb’s………

    yes that’s the entire draft…

or draft 7 edge guys…one in every round…hahahahah

no one has ever done that…just do it…do it !

  9. Marine Buc Says:

Here is my contract for J. Bosa…

    Base salary – $5M
    Per sack incentive – $500K
    Per game incentive – $500K

If he can play all 17 games and get 10 sacks he will earn @ $20M.

This guy is rarely healthy but is pretty effective when on the field.

  10. Creamsicle Says:

Going for bosa woulda be a waste of time we might as well keep reddick in that case look at bosa scatter stats compared to reddick. They are both a veteran presence. Bring in someone from the draft or if your going to trade Make it actually worth it instead of trading up for equal or less talent

  11. Lakeland Says:

He can’t do any worse than Braswell, Nelson, Watts

  12. BucsFan81 Says:

No he is washed. Stop bringing in guys that are has beens. Last year it was Reddick that did nothing. They might just have to pay a hefty price to get some edge rushers. They clearly can’t draft anyone on defense to rush the passer.

  13. Creamsicle Says:

Lakeland if we made decision based on those comparisons we would be resigning shoyinka

  14. Creamsicle Says:

And Nelson is a quality backup he recorded more sacks than reddick with half of the playing time

  15. SG Says:

What difference does it make. He will asked to cover a WR in the middle of the defense.

  16. Creamsicle Says:

Think a lot of people are forgetting about Elijah Robert’s. He has about 70 less snaps that reddick and had similar stats his first year in the nfl. Not to mention what David walker might be able to do if he can stay healthy.

  17. LynchMob50 Says:

Remember when Joe was giddy about the Haason Reddick signing?

    How’d that one work out???

    Hard pass.

We have enough issues with our HC\DC that forgot how to coach defense.

Broken players will not resolve our issues.

  18. ā€˜74 Bucs Fan Says:

We need help so I’ll take it – but agree about the performance based contract with incentives. Meet those and get paid. Cover our arses.

  19. 813bucboi Says:

    Heck NO!!!!!!!!!!

trade for Jeffrey Simmons or Cam Hayward….

the key is getting Vita a run mate….Vita & Suh clogged up the middle while Shaq & JJP beat their one on one match ups…

bowles’ defense depends on inside pressure more than edge pressures…

sign Odafe Oweh!!!!!…trade for Jeffrey Simmons or Cam Hayward!!!!!…draft a OG 1st round!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  20. Tdogg Says:

No they need to stop chasing players that don’t have it anymore

  21. Newbie Says:

only at a bargain price and 10M is 5M too much for his services at this stage of his career. And staying healthy is a concern. I mean we have that guy in C Kancey. It’s more than just a Bosa. This unit needs soooooooo much help. I mean if JL gets ballsy and goes the trade route with Crosby, Hendrickson, etc. all of these dudes are north of 30. Last I checked this team wasn’t a player a way. We are like 8-9 players away. Bucs have depth pieces, roll players. We need 2 or 3 alpha dogs on the LOS and or coming off the edge. Need another BIG body in the middle to help VV. And we havent even brought up LB. Geez how did things get this bad?

  22. Stanglassman Says:

Great player when available. The last 4 seasons he’s been injured for 35 games. Started in 33 of 68 games. At 31 years old with that kind of a history how can you count on him?

  23. BuccaDAWG Says:

Why do we have a GM who can’t or won’t improve our pass rush???? Oh yeah, our Genius Head Ciach uses edge rushers in coverage , cause they cover WRs TEs RBs so well.NOT!!!!!!

  24. Billy Bucco Says:

He wouldn’t be my favorite but I would pull for him. I Guess!

  25. FlBoy84 Says:

Unlike most on here, down for exploring the possibility at least, though there are a few other options at Edge I’d prefer. Assume West would have some thoughts/input after working with Bosa last season as well.

  26. HC Grover Says:

    Don’t bet the ranch.

  27. Lakeland Says:

Last season Joey Bosa played in 15 games

    He had 573 snaps
    5 sacks, 43 pressures, 4 FF
    79 3 PFF grade

Only Yaya Diaby had a better season than him
But, Yaya had a lot more snaps

Signing him will be more positive than negative
It all depends on his contract

  28. Lakeland Says:

Yaya had 210 more snaps than Joey Bosa
But his PFF grade was 72, which is less than Bosa
Joey Bosa is stout against the run, he shed blockers
He can play DE and OLB in a 3-4 defense

    He’s worth signing
It just depends on how much

  29. capebuc Says:

Should have signed Chase Young while we had the chance. Still, want a vet on 2nd contract such as Odafe Oweh.

  30. ModHairKen Says:

This is what happens with failed draft picks. Resort to bargain hunting for has-been vets. Did not work out with Red dick.

And guess what? The only vets that are going to come here are those guys that are in their final year of playing and are willing to tolerate a one year contract, or scrubs who nobody else wants.

Any young decent free agent is not coming to Tampa. Not with this mess.

  31. Kenton Smith Says:

Can’t believe I’m agreeing with 813bucboi and Warren Brooks Lynch. NO. There are better out there.

  32. Kenton Smith Says:

Of course 813bucboi can’t leave well enough alone. ā€œdraft an Offensive Guard in the first roundā€.

  33. Hodad Says:

We’re not resigning JPP? I think Braswell will shock the world, and David has plenty of gas left in the tank. We’re set now at MLB with Dennis healthy. Good luck counting on Licht in free agency, and the draft.

  34. 813bucboi Says:

we have cody mauch returning from ACL injury…he wont be 100%

that leaves michael jordan, klein and haggard lol….

drafting an OG in the 1st to go along with your 1st round Center, your 1st round All Pro LT and 2nd round RT aint a bad idea lol….

gotta keep baker upright…and we have to open up throwing lanes for him…it’ll also improve the run game…

trade down, draft an OG in the 1st and defense the rest of the way…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  35. Teacherman Says:

David Walker, Yaya Diaby, Nelson, Braswell, JPP, Watts

Braswell and Watts need to be released. They are awful on special teams as well.

1st round OLB. ƀ real freak of nature.

2nd round: MLB. ƀ legit starter.

3rd round: MLB. Great value here.

4th round: NT to rotate with Vea.

    5th round: OG/RT.

6th round: CB with 4.3 speed

7th round: MLB project with 4.5 speed.

  36. Rob Says:

    Hard pass on any Bosa.

  37. Tom Petty Says:

For the dummies who keep bringing up Todd’s defense dropping linemen into coverage as if it’s a rare or unusual tactic šŸ’”

While all 32 NFL teams may occasionally drop an edge defender into coverage for deception, it is a primary, consistent tactic for teams utilizing 3-4 defensive schemes or specialized blitz-heavy coordinators. Teams like the Cardinals, Packers, and Steelers frequently drop outside linebackers to disrupt passing lanes.

Frequency: It is primarily a component of 3-4 outside linebackers, who drop into zone coverage to confuse quarterbacks, often covering flat routes or acting as a “spy”.
Examples: The 2024 Cardinals used their top four edge rushers, who dropped into coverage over 150 times combined.
Purpose: Beyond simple zone drops, this tactic is used to misdirect offensive protection and QB reads.

  38. Defense Rules Says:

Heavens no on Bosa. Last 4 years he’s averaged 11 games a year & 5 sacks per year. If we’re gonna spend the money, spend it on better production.

My guess is that the Bucs will be keeping Diaby, Nelson, Braswell & Walker as our 4 OLBs. And that might just be OK IF we invest in some REAL BEEF for the interior DLine. Would love to see us grab TWO interior DLinemen who are unstoppable to pair with Vea & Kancey & Roberts. Preferably stronger than oxes & weighing oh say 315-335 lbs, and who really enjoy creating chaos by collapsing the pocket.

Unfortunately I don’t see any on the free agent market. Lots of big DTs in the draft this year, but none of them really stand out as pass rushers. Bummer.

“Purpose: Beyond simple zone drops, this tactic is used to misdirect offensive protection and QB reads.”

Unfortunately it never works for Todd. That is why people complain about it.

Even Ronde Barber said it might be a good idea to have you pass rushers be pass rushers.

We have tried everything on defense and nothing works.

In a sane world there is only one amswer. Fire Bowles.

  40. Tony Says:

It won’t matter who we draft or even if we do sign anybody as long as we’re running the same stupid scheme/system on D.

  41. Saskbucs Says:

    Haha Bosa is washed.

I was much happier with the Reddick signing than I would have been with Bosa signing. No chance Bosa was getting 5 sacks on the Bucs last season. Put him and Haason in the same NFL retirement home.

  42. Saskbucs Says:

You know who is old and isn’t washed? Calais Campbell. That’s who we needed to sign last year. That water under the bridge has already dried up so I will stop mentioning it but damn… not sure why Calais didn’t even seem to be a thought last offseason.

  43. Usfbucs Says:

@Tom Petty like the poster above it’s the effectiveness of the strategy with the players and coach we have. The players are so bad at dropping into coverage that opposing QBs completion percentage in some season against some of our d line is 100%. I think the best still allowed a completion percentage of 80%+.
